Suffolk Class A Final 4
In this Class A semi final
a game that was originally scheduled to be played at Stony Brook University,
Walt Whitman defeated Bellport 81-60. The game was closer than the final
score indicates, with Bellport closing to within 5 points in the second
half.
In spite of tremendous defensive
pressure by Bellport guards Cleveland Jackson, Rha-Mel Flippen, Davin Garrison,
and Sean Street; Antoine Agudio scored 35 points and Nick Carter added
20 points, when No. 1 Whitman (19-2) outscored No. 5 Bellport (17-4), 42-30
in the 2nd half. Matt Ross added 18 points and 16 rebounds.
Alvin Dennis led all Bellport
scoring with 14 points. Jason Trent recorded a triple double with 13 points,
11 rebounds, and 12 assists.
After the game, Coaches McGowan
and Hempfling praised their seniors for their three years of hard work
on the varsity team, and wished them well for the rest of this year and
in college.
