Szmala were ready to greet their guests at
the reception before beginning their wedding
trip, which will end at Rota, Spain,
where the bridegroom will be stationed for
six months. Mrs. Szmala, the former Miss
Phyllis Marie Young of East Patchogue,
was employed at Speak Softly Coiffures, Patchogue.
The Flying Cross and nine awards of the
Air Medal have been awarded staff sergeant
Arthur H. Gack, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Esser of Patchogue, at Mather AFB, Calif.,
for participating in aerial flight near Da
Nang AB, Vietnam, despite intense automatic
weapons fire, and for outstanding courage
on successful missions under hazardous
conditions. A flight engineer, he now holds 11 medals.
Miss Priscilla Swan of Chestnut Avenue,
Patchogue, was guest of honor at a surprise
bridal shower last Friday, given at the home
of Mrs. De Verne Swezey of Namkee Road,
Blue Point. Co-hostesses were Miss Margaret
Deedy and Miss Nadine Aviano of Patchogue.
A buffet tea was served. Miss Swan
will be married to Delbert Baker of Hatfield, Pa., in December.
Specialist 4 Thomas Kissen was at home
on a 30-day rest and recuperation leave,
which he spent at the home of his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kissen of Roe Avenue.
He is now back in Vietnam to complete
his tour of duty, which will be up in four months.
Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Ferrante of Southern
Boulevard, East Patchogue, have returned
recently from upstate New York, where they
vacationed for four days. Highlights of their
trip included a day at the Saratoga Raceway
and a scenic boat ride on Lake George. They
were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Szaro of Selden.
The Cadette Girl Scouts of Troop 35
camped overnight last Friday at Camp Edey
in Bayport. Those who passed the emergency
preparedness challenge were Janet Rose,
Pamela Maler, Patty Ward and Linda Groh.
A surprise bridal shower was given for
Miss Maureen DiNaro of Munsell Road last
Wednesday night by Miss Jan Harting and
Miss Linda Palermo. Twenty guests attended
the shower, which was held at the Harting
home on Circuit Road, Bellport. Miss
DiNaro was married to James Smith of
Bellport at the Bellport Methodist Church
Saturday afternoon.
Attending the Army-Duke football game
at West Point on Saturday afternoon were
Calvin Demarest and daughters Susan and
Wendy, Boris Lomonosoff and daughter
Kathy, and Ann del Castillo.
Mrs. Edward Bergin has bought the house
at the corner of Bayberry Lane and Thornhedge
Road from Charles Schwaner through
the Wallace Agency on Bellport Lane. She
recently moved there with her family.
A Halloween costume party was given by
Mr. and Mrs. John Rant and Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Rant on Saturday night. Twenty-seven
guests arrived at the John Rant garage,
dressed in a wide assortment of clever
costumes. Group singing was recorded, and
William Mach played the organ in accompaniment.
Prizes were awarded in different
categories for the costumes.
Gary C. Roscott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rolff
J. Roscott of Division Avenue, Blue Point,
has been placed on the Dean’s List for the
fall semester at Brown University, Providence, R.I.
Miss Mary Ellen O’Came, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond O’Came of Oregon
Avenue, Medford, was recently elected
treasurer of the freshman class at Yankton
College, Yankton, S.D. Miss O’Came was
also selected to play one of the lead roles in
their class play, which will be presented this coming month.
Three William Floyd beauties were in
the spotlight Saturday during homecoming
ceremonies at the William Floyd-John F.
Kennedy High School football game at the
Floyd field. Selected as the 1968 homecoming
queen was Marlayne Scanlon, while
Linda Orban was named as first runner-up
and Pat Sullivan was picked as second runner-
up. Floyd’s homecoming festivities were
dampened somewhat by both the weather
and a 28-19 loss to the JFK squad.

Mme. Giuri and daughter, Miss Marie
Giuri, of the Mme. Giuri Shop on East
Main Street, viewed the Spring Collection
1969 in women’s wearing apparel,
held last week in the Grand Ballroom
of the Delmonico Hotel, Park Avenue,
New York City. Prior to the presentation
they attended a gala cocktail party at the hotel.
Sgt. Anita R. Neuhaus, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Carr of Maple
Avenue, North Patchogue, made history
recently at the Allied Forces Southern
Europe Headquarters by becoming the
first WAF to reenlist at the headquarters.
She was presented with a $2,400 reenlistment bonus.
Recently wed were Army staff sergeant
and Mrs. Joseph Raymond Fortner Jr.,
who are currently making their home in
Suitland, Md. Mrs. Fortner, the former
Miss Judy Mirabella of Patchogue, is
employed in the Federal Bureau of Investigation,
Washington, D.C. The sergeant
is awaiting assignment to the Pentagon
in Arlington, Va.
The Patchogue Fire Department team
has won three of its last four games
in the Village of Patchogue Recreation
Department touch football league, to
even its record at 3-3. Team members
are: John Coleman, Gary Parris, John
Ferrante, Chris Kane, Richie Nogiewich,
Bob Gilman, Don Nogiewich, Bill Rowse,
Ken Meyer, Bob Safranek, Ben Wilson,
Pete Angelora, Richie Morpurgo, Tom
Sands, Art Rate, John Capute and Don Huthofer.
J. Leroy Smith of Swezey Street,
breeder of single comb, dark brown leghorns
and Birmingham roller pigeons,
was pleasantly surprised when he took
second and fourth prizes at a national
meet at York, Pa. Mr. Smith is presently
recovering from an illness at Brookhaven
Memorial Hospital and was unable to
take part in the showing. However, his
daughters, Mrs. Emily Meyer and Mrs.
Eleanor Wagner, attended to the details
with the help of Frank Corwin of Riverhead
and Edward Ashland of Patchogue.
Breeding these birds has been a lifelong
hobby of Mr. Smith’s. He acquired his
first bird at the age of 11. He will be
remembered by many as the owner of the
Smith Brothers Dairy, which did business
in and around Patchogue for about 40 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Watson of Patchogue
were married in September in
St. Joseph the Worker R.C. Church, East
Patchogue. Their reception was held at
the Better ‘Ole in Brookhaven. The bride
is the former Miss Joann Savino of East
Patchogue.
Elizabeth Shreeve, Pam Borg and
Peggy Fowler were co-hostesses at a
Halloween scavenger hunt held at the
home of Dr. and Mrs. Walton Shreeve
of South Howells Point Road, Bellport,
last Wednesday night. Thirty guests were present.
Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. James
Tinsley of Beaver Dam Road were Capt.
and Mrs. William Tinsley and son, Craig.
Capt. Tinsley has since returned to Vietnam.
Michele Tinsley, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. James Tinsley, recently celebrated
her 12th birthday with a party at her home.
Dr. and Mrs. Willard French and family
have moved into their new home on
Academy Lane, formerly occupied by
the Adam Dobries. New owners of the
French home on South Brewster Lane
are Dr. and Mrs. Arthur C. Damask and
son, Jay. Dr. and Mrs. Damask have sold
their home on Thornhedge Road to the
Preston Watermans of Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. George R. Stegmann of
Bellport have announced the engagement
of their daughter, Miss Karen Louise
Stegmann, to Barry Fitzpatrick, son of
Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Fitzpatrick of Macon,
Ga. Miss Stegmann, a graduate of Bellport
High School, is a statistical clerk at
V.O. Schinerer and Company, Washington,
D.C. Mr. Fitzpatrick is with the FBI
in the fingerprint division. No date has
been set for the wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Sparrow and sons,
Carl and Paul, of Leisurely Lane, recently
attended Freshman Parents Saturday at
Brown University, Providence, R.I. Miss
Nancy Moog of East Patchogue accompanied them.
Stefan Dubowski, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Stanislaus Dubowski of Bergen Lane,
Blue Point, celebrated his 5th birthday
with a surprise birthday barbecue last
Saturday. Attending were Chet Bornscheuer,
Alan Davis, Diane Delaney, and
John and Ann Kingston.
A baby girl, Patricia Lynn, was born
Oct. 29 to Capt. and Mrs. Robert Graham
of Fort Benning, Ga., where the captain
is stationed. Mrs. Graham is the former
Constance Roscott, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Rolff Roscott of Division Avenue, Blue Point.
A bride, whose gown reflected the
charm of a bygone day, was Mrs. Thomas
Richard McManus, posed beside her
husband after their marriage in St. Jude’s
R.C. Church, Mastic Beach, Oct. 19. Mr.
Mcmanus, a veteran of the Vietnam conflict,
has taken his bride, the former Miss
Ellen Ann Smart of Mastic Beach, to
San Diego, Calif., where he will attend a Naval school.

Five Patchogue players were named to
the League II All-Star soccer teams in the
voting by the league’s coaches and game
officials. Co-captain Don Chiuchiolo, a
senior, was named to the first team as a
right halfback. Outside right Darwin Thomas
and halfbacks Wayne Fourney and Bill
Pfister were named to the second team,
while goalie Ed Charmack made honorable
mention. Thomas and Fourney are seniors
while Pfister and Charmack are juniors.
As a team, the Red Raiders finished with
a 6-8-2 record in their first season under
Ray Fell. It was the second best won-lost
mark turned in by a Patchogue team since
it resumed the sport in 1959.
Bridal couple are Mr. and Mrs. Peter R.
Morano Jr., after their marriage Oct. 26
in St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church, Patchogue.
Their wedding trip was to Florida.
The bride, whose lovely bouffant gown
was of lace over satin, is the former Miss
Mary Christine Hahn of Patchogue.
A listing of students at the State University
College, Fredonia, N.Y., who completed
the curriculum and course requirements
for academic degrees in August,
includes the names of two local young
people. From Patchogue, John George
Markott III, of Shore Drive, an art student,
and Judy Silberbusch, of Chestnut Avenue,
in the speech-drama department, will be
awarded B.A. degrees May 31 during the
annual commencement ceremonies.
New assignment has been given Private
Leroy Mott Jr., of North Patchogue,
who has completed eight weeks of basic
training at Fort Gordon, Ga., and is now
attending a school of carpentry at Fort Riley, Kansas.
Protecting the Panama Canal Zone is
the task of Army Forces Southern Command,
being shared by Private 1/c Jeffrey
R. Engel of Patchogue. He is a fire control
operator with the 517th Artillery at Fort Amador.
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Quatrale of Robinson
Avenue are the parents of a baby
girl, who entered the world on Nov. 6
at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. The
baby’s name is Jodi and she has three
brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Quatrale is
the former Miss Ann Stewart.

Herbert Smith, own and operate the Sundown
Motel on Route 20 in Sloansville, a
nice place to stay. Mr. Smith is a former
employee of the Bond Bread General Baking
Company, Patchogue office.
Capt. Roland F. Smith Jr., of McConnell
Air Force Base, Wichita, Kan., visited for
several days last week with his parents.
On Nov. 5 he showed a film and gave a talk
on “A Day in the Life of a 105 Pilot,” at the
Bellport Rotary Club.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Woolsey Jr., of Los
Alamos, N.M., are visiting for 10 days with
Joseph Woolsey Sr., of North Howells Point Road.
Miss Marjorie Binnington of Browns
Lane spent the weekend in New York with
her sister, Miss Bree Binnington, and Miss Linda Love.
Miss Jane Gardner was home this weekend
from Northeastern University to visit
her mother, Mrs. Jane Gardner of George
Court. She flew back to Boston, Mass., on Monday.
John Schinn, son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Schinn of North Howells Point Road, has
made the Dean’s List at the University of
Connecticut, Storr, Conn., for this marking period.
The Council of the Students of Confraternity
of Our Lady of the Snow Church,
Blue Point, have elected to be representatives:

Mr. and Mrs. Reinhard Nickelson of Division
Street, Blue Point, have received word
of a new granddaughter, Christy Lynn,
born Oct. 30 to Dr. and Mrs. Neil Nickelson of Trenton, Mich.
A Coast Guardsman who has completed
recruit training at the Training Center at
Cape May, N.J., is seaman apprentice Fred
M. Lang Jr., of Blue Point.
Michael Rutigliano of Cypress Drive,
Mastic Beach, presented Mrs. Rutigliano
with a 1969 Mustang Grande for their 38th wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvah Nichols of North
Ocean Avenue, who attended the marriage
of their son, David Nichols, to Miss
Linda Minutillo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
E. Minutillo of New Jersey, Nov. 2 in the
Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Alva, Okla.,
have returned home. Mr. and Mrs. David
Nichols are both students at Northwestern
State Teachers College in Alva.
One of the highest honors that can be
bestowed on an undergraduate of Northeastern
University, Boston, Mass., has
been conferred on Miss Debra Danziger,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Saul Danziger of
Walnut Avenue. Miss Danziger, a graduate
of Patchogue High School and a senior at
the university, has been elected to membership
in The Academy, the honorary
scholastic society of the College of Liberal Arts.
Miss Judith Ann Schneid, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Schneid of Conklin
Avenue, and Miss Marie Parisi, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Rocco Parisi of Maple Avenue,
East Patchogue, are members of the
freshman class at Vassar College, Poughkeepsie,
N.Y. Miss Schneid is a graduate of
Patchogue High School and Miss Parisi is a
graduate of Bellport High School.
Miss Kathleen Russo, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Gaetano Russo of South Summit
Avenue, has been named to the Dean’s List
at Russell Sage College, Troy, N.Y. She is a
junior majoring in physical therapy.
Suffolk County police reported Monday
that the St. Francis de Sales Church auditorium
on South Ocean Avenue had been
broken into and entered. A custodian told
the police that two Coke machines had
been broken open, and that some coins
and two cases of soda were missing.
It was a happy moment for Mr. and
Mrs. David Rostetter after their marriage
Oct. 13 in the Congregational Church,
Patchogue. A wedding reception was held
at the Huntington Town House. Mr. Rostetter
and his bride, the former Miss Judy
Silberbusch of Patchogue, are residing
in Fredonia, N.Y., where the bridegroom
will graduate from the State University
in January and from which the bride was graduated recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Oslager of Baker
Street announce the engagement of their
daughter, Laurie, to airman apprentice
Chuck Higginbotham of the Navy, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Higginbotham Sr.,
of Shore Drive. Miss Oslager is a 1967
graduate of Patchogue High School and
is employed by the New york Telephone
Company in Patchogue. Airman Higginbotham
is also a 1967 graduate of Patchogue
High School. He is at present stationed
at Quonset Point, R.I., waiting for
his transfer to the aircraft carrier Wasp. No
definite date has been set for the wedding.
The South Bay Chargers, paced by the
passing combination of Marc Silberbusch
and Tom Julian, have a 3-3 record and third
place in the Village of Patchogue Recreation
Department’s touch football league.
Team members include: Tom Julian, Marc
Silberbusch, Mike Tritsch, Tony Acito, Art
Niebling, Dan Ashline, Ron Perry, Joe Stellato,
Steve Hutton and Jon Markott.
Chester Arthur of Bell Street and George
Staples of Country Club Road, both Bellport,
were each awarded a turkey as first
and second winners of the annual Turkey
Shoot sponsored by the Bellport Men’s Fellowship,
Sunday afternoon on the beach at
the end of South Howells Point Road.
A luncheon party was given for Lynn
Stonebridge Saturday in celebration of her
6th birthday by her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Stonebridge of General McLean
Drive. Attending were Kristin Wold, Kathy
Barry and Laura Werner. A family birthday
party was held at the Stonebridge home on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Igoe Jr., and family,
formerly of Marlton, N.J., have moved
to 44 Bieselin Road. They bought the
house from Dr. B. Chalmer Frazer, through
the Donald W. Shaw Agency. Mr. Igoe is
manager of the W.T. Grant Company.
George Mistler and his grandson, Robert
Perino of North Howells Point Road, drove
to Oxford Sunday for a few days of deer
hunting. They stayed with Mr. Mistler’s
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Strier.

At a special senior assembly held Monday,
the following Patchogue High School
seniors were elected to membership in the
Patchogue chapter of the National Honor
Society: Barbara Immarigeon, Fred Jones,
Jeffrey Juzwiak, Shelly Kemp, Rita Mahoney,
Cathy Marshall, Leonard Marks, Robin Saxton,
Mary Ann Spavins, Nancy Waldbauer
and Leo Zaloga.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond M. Lysak of Jones
Street announce the engagement of their
daughter, Karen Marie, to Michael L. Hammer,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Asa Hammer of
Springfield, Va. Miss Lysak is a graduate of
Patchogue High School, class of 1964, and
attended Shenandoah College. She is now
employed as a stewardess by United Airlines.
Mr. Hammer attended Shenandoah College
and is presently employed by the U.S. government.
A summer wedding is planned.
Marine sergeant Anthony Moran of Patchogue
has volunteered for service in Vietnam.
He is an administration chief, stationed
at Quang Tri for one year.
A graduate from the military policeman’s
course at Fort Clayton, Canal Zone, is Army
private Charles Todd III, of Patchogue. He is
assigned to the 534th Military Police Company.
He was formerly assigned to the Army’s
Southern Command at Fort Jackson, S.C.
Barbara Hughes, a freshman at the College
of Mount Saint Vincent on the Hudson in
Riverdale, N.Y., will spend the Thanksgiving
weekend at home with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Hughes Jr., of Evergreen Lane,
East Patchogue. Also spending the weekend
at the Hughes’ home is Miss Evelyn Bente, a
relative from New York City.
Mrs. Jennie Vasso of East Patchogue wishes
to announce the engagement of her daughter,
Joanne, to David G. Zukowski, son of Mr.
and Mrs. George Zukowski of Brookhaven.
Miss Vasso is also the daughter of the late
Albert P. Vasso. She is a graduate of Bellport
High School and the State University of New
Paltz. She is at present teaching kindergarten
at the new Canaan Elementary School,
Patchogue. Mr. Zukowski is also a Bellport
and New Paltz graduate. He is teaching mathematics
at South Ocean Avenue Junior High
School, Patchogue. The couple is planning a
July wedding.
Linda Prybyzerski celebrated her 3rd birthday
with a party Friday afternoon, given by
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Prybyzerski
of Circuit Road, Bellport. Those present
were Theresa Coleman, Dawn and Eric
Haller, Frank, Robin and Dana DeNicole, and
Linda’s sister, Lori.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mullaney of South
Howells Point Road were weekend guests
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Mullaney
of Princeton, N.J. On Saturday afternoon
they attended the Princeton-Cornell football
game.
Mr. and Mrs. Dave Perry of Provost Avenue
announce the engagement of their daughter,
Miss Betty Moore, to Sammy Deas Jr., son of
Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Deas of Carver Street.
Miss Moore is employed at Grumman’s in
Bethpage. Mr. Deas is a consultation lawyer.
The wedding is planned for December.
Robert Goodal, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Garbett of Park Street, Blue Point, returned
home last Tuesday for Thanksgiving recess.
Mr. Goodal is a senior at the State University
College at Oswego.
Miss Cheryl Densing, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. George Densing of Namkee Road,
returned home today from the State University
College at Geneseo for a Thanksgiving
recess. She has as her guest this weekend,
Howard Kranz, a fellow student.
Mr. and Mrs. John Masem and family of
Robinson Avenue, Medford, have motored
upstate to Olean, to spend the Thanksgiving
holidays with Mrs. Masem’s mother, Mrs.
Anthony Furey, and sister, Mrs. Raymond
Dayton and family, also of Olean.
Mrs. Robert Conley of Oregon Avenue
celebrated her birthday this past Thursday.
All the immediate family were on hand to
celebrate the occasion.
Completing basic Air Force training is Philip
Libasci Jr., of Shirley. He will now receive
technical training in Sheppard AFB, Texas.
Anne Marie Leonardi, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Michael Leonardi of Flower Road, Mastic
Beach, has joined Mastic Beach Brownie
Troop 110, which was recently formed.
