Kenneth Goll, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene
Goll of Medford Avenue, has returned to
his studies at the Aeronautic School in
Tulsa, Okla., after having spent a twoweek
holiday at the home of his parents.
Home for the holidays with his family
is communications yeoman 3/c Richard
Searles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert J.
Searles of Private Road, Medford. He
is stationed in Londonderry, Northern
Ireland with the U.S. Naval Communications Station.
Madames Martha Novinski, Ann Cullum
and Dina Luti, representing St.
Francis de Sales Rosary Altar Society,
were in charge of the distribution of
gifts and goodies to the men and women
in the Grove Avenue Nursing Home
and The Gables on Rider Avenue for Christmas.
Enjoying their wedding reception at
the Bavarian Inn, Lake Ronkonkoma,
were Mr. and Mrs. Roger Desjardins,
whose marriage took place Dec. 15
in the United Methodist Church, Patchogue.
The bride is the former Miss
Marilyn Satterley of Patchogue. She and
her husband are making their home in Patchogue.
Patchogue’s Gary Zaloga proved big
things do come in small packages as
he tied up Tom Halsey of Westhampton
en route to a 9-4 decision and the
123-pound title in the first annual Patchogue
Christmas wrestling tournament
last Friday and Saturday at the PHS gym.
Zaloga was Patchogue’s only champion
as the Red Raiders finished fifth in the
team standings with 57 points. Sayvile
easily won the team title with 167
points and crowned four champions as
did Bayport, which finished third in the
field of eight schools, with 89 points.
Anthony Maletta, proprietor of Tony’s
Gas Station on Robinson Boulevard and
Donegan Avenue, East Patchogue, who
has made his place of business a sort of
clubhouse for the young people of this
area, was pleasantly surprised when
they presented him with a color television
set for Christmas. There were
about 40 “club members” involved, who
did this to show their gratitude for the
interest that Mr. Maletta has shown in
them. He had always held a celebration
for those entering or returning from
the armed services, fatherly advice was
dispensed, and it was a place to go
meet friends, a home away from home.
Mr. Maletta and his wife Grace live on
Scherger Avenue and are the parents of
two grown children, Anthony Maletta of
East Patchogue and Mrs. William Raynor of Bellport.
Peter Rant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Rant of South Country Road, East Patchogue,
is home from Idaho State University,
Pocatello, Idaho, for Christmas
and New Year’s. His sister, Miss Patricia
Rant, a stewardess for Eastern Airlines,
was also home for the Christmas holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Musto of Woodberry
Road, East Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter, Bella
Biscardi, to Michael Iarocci, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Iarocci of Fuoco
Road, Bellport. Miss Biscardi attended
Bellport High School and is employed
by Central School District 4. Mr. Iarocci
attended Bellport High School and is
attending Suffolk Community College,
where he is majoring in mechanical
technology. No date has been set for the wedding.
Lt. Carl Payne, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Alan Payne of Bayview Avenue, Blue
Point, is home on leave for Christmas
from his assignment in St. Louis, Mo.

Marie Weyhrauch spent Christmas Day
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Westenberger
of Eatons Neck, N.Y.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cirillo of Edwards
Lane announce the engagement of their
daughter, Cabrini, to Edward James
Mohr, son of Mrs. Mary Mohr of Amityville.
Miss Cirillo, a graduate of Seton
Hall High School and the State University
of New York at Stony Brook, is
teaching third grade at Sylvan Avenue
School, Bayport. Mr. Mohr graduated
from Seton Hall High School and Saint
Bonaventure University. He is at present
a student at Creighton University
School of Medicine in Omaha, Neb. No
date has been set for the wedding.
Miss Terri Siegel, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Abe Siegel of mastic Beach, is a
member of the Tarkio College Concert
Choir. She was also chosen to be a member
of the T.C. Singers, an ensemble of
14 students from the Concert Choir.
Terri is a sophomore at Tarkio, majoring in music.

Mrs. Mary Rockwell Carr of Swezey
Street has returned from a three-month
vacation to Hawaii, spending the first
month in Kawai, the home of her granddaughter,
Mrs. John Rushing. Since Mr.
and Mrs. Rushing during that time moved
to Honolulu, Mrs. Carr’s visit included two
months on that mainland.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Brewster of
South Prospect Avenue celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary Dec. 25 with a
gathering of the family. They were presented
with many cards and gifts, one of which
was a colored television set, given them by their children.
Parshall Miller and his wife Frances of
Oxbow Road visited Mr. Miller’s son, staff
sergeant Gary P. Miller and his wife, Amy,
and grandchildren, Dawn and Todd, at
Pease AFB, Portsmouth, N.H., during the
New Year holiday.
Mr. and Mrs. Carlo Corrado of River
Avenue announce the engagement of their
daughter, Doris, to James Joseph Felice, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Felice of Old North
Ocean Avenue. Miss Corrado is employed
at Blum’s in Patchogue. Mr. Felice, a graduate
of Patchogue High School, is serving
in the U.S. Navy. No date has been set for the wedding.
On Jan. 17 and 18, Patchogue High School
will present its annual all-school musical.
The production this year will be “South
Pacific.” The director will be William R.
Goelz, assisted by student-directors Marcia
Zegel and Gayle Flynn. The performers of
the stage include: Eileen Breslin, Mary Lou
Pausewang, Carl Whidden, Al Calabrese,
Tony Bruce and Susan Flynn.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Engelschjon of
Maple Avenue announce the engagement
of their daughter, Joan, to David Joseph
Nolan, son of Mrs. Dorothy Nolan and
the late Gerard Nolan of Medford. Miss
Engelschjon, a graduate of Patchogue High
School, is employed by the Patchogue-Medford
Public Schools. Mr. Nolan received his
Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics
from St. Francis College in Brooklyn and
his Master of Arts degree in mathematics
from St. John’s University. He is a member
of the mathematics faculty at Suffolk County
Community College, Selden. An August
wedding is planned.
Susan Roush, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Bobbie Roush of Durkee Lane, East Patchogue,
has returned to Syracuse University
after spending the holidays at home.
She is a sophomore majoring in home economics.
A family birthday party was held on Dec.
19 to celebrate the 3rd birthday of Louis
Linbrunner, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Linbrunner of Taylor Avenue.

Donald Stonebridge of General McLean
Drive, Bellport, celebrated his 11th birthday
with two friends, Robbie Werner and Chris
Bergskaug, who joined him at a family dinner
party at his home.
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Diecidue of George
Court entertained at a spaghetti and meatball
dinner party Sunday for their daughter,
Diane, in celebration of her 9th birthday.
Her guests were Jeanne Regalmuto, Liz
Chrien, Laura Penny, Lori Hamlyn, Ellen
and Peggy Zivitz, Becky Brown and Lori Pfeiffer.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl L. Marshall of South
Howells Point Road have just returned from
a trip to St. Croix, the U.S. Virgin Islands,
which they took over the New Year holiday.
Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Donald Streit of
Browns Lane for the weekend was Mrs.
Irene Ballyn of London, England.
Mr. and Mrs. Joel O’Connor of Mott Lane,
Brookhaven, spent Christmas week in West
Dover, Vt., enjoying the skiing.
The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Fingar took place Sunday in the Bayport
Methodist Church. The bride, the former
Miss Orlene Ann King, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Donald Kirouac of Pheasant Way,
Blue Point, is graduating this month from
Geneseo State College. The bridegroom is
working toward a doctorate at Stanford
University, Palo Alto, Calif.
Guests of honor at an engagement party
held Dec. 21 in the Knights of Columbus
Hall, Mastic Beach, are Miss Geri La Centra
and Joey Cutrone. Mr. and Mrs. Michael La
Centra of Mastic Beach made the announcement
of their daughter’s engagement before
150 guests, including the parents of Mr.
Cutrone, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cutrone of
Shirley. The bride to be and her fiancé
exchanged rings and the festivities were
highlighted by the music of the Star Dusters.
Mr. Cutrone, who is serving with the
Navy, stationed at the Naval Amphibious
Base in California, had flown home on a
13-day furlough.

Mrs. Marie Smith of Herbert Circle, who
is moving to Orange, Texas, was given a
farewell luncheon Friday at Snapper Inn,
Oakdale, by a group of her friends, the
Mesdames Dougherty, Graniello, Pfalzgraf,
Kulakowski, Feeney, Orsinger and Larson.
Mrs. Smith was presented with a handsome
piece of Samsonite luggage.
Fifth Precinct police reported that when
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Greenspan returned at
9:30 p.m. last Thursday to their home on
Gillette Avenue, they found piled up outside
a number of small household items that
included a toaster, an electric razor, two
bottles of liquor and some ice cream bars.
The reporting officer, Ptl. John R. Fleming,
said the unknown thief or thieves broke
into the house through a window. Police
surmise that the intruders were interrupted
by the return home unexpectedly of the Greenspans.
Mrs. Edith Hoppe of Price Street will be
hostess Tuesday evening of the Gleaners
Circle of the United Methodist Church of Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Hudak of Harris
Street announce the engagement of their
daughter, Janet, to Kim Brownie, son of Mr.
and Mrs. J. Brownie of Bay Avenue. Both
Miss Hudak and Mr. Brownie are graduates
of Patchogue High School. Miss Hudak is
employed by the New York Telephone Company
in Patchogue. Mr. Brownie is attending
Dowling College in Oakdale. No definite date
has been set for the wedding.
The once prestigious Patchogue Hotel on
East Main Street, now the prey of destructive
vandals intruding on its emptiness, is still not
on its way to coming down in preparation
for the construction of a modern five-story,
88-unit apartment complex planned for the
site. The stumbling block is described by
village officials as objections by the Suffolk
Department of Health to the on-site sewage
disposal system planned for the apartments
as not conforming to county sewage regulations.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Karns of Albion,
N.Y., announce the engagement of their
daughter, Linda Ann, to Jon G. Markott, son
of Mr. and Mrs. John Markott of Shore Road,
Patchogue. Miss Karns is a senior at State
University College at Fredonia, majoring in
elementary education. Mr. Markott is a 1968
graduate of Fredonia and is now teaching in
the Miller Place School System. A July wedding
is being planned.
The Rosary Altar Society of St. Joseph
the Worker R.C. Church, East Patchogue,
will have a card party Feb. 22 in the school
cafeteria. The awards featured are an 18-inch
General Electric color television set, an
Admiral record player and a Saint Mary electric
blanket. The chairmen for this affair are
Rita Michaud and Arlene Clifford.

Medical and Dental Assistants, Hempstead,
as a medical assistant on Feb. 6. Miss Serafino

Road, returned Sunday from a week’s skiing
trip to Sugar Loaf, Kingfield, Me.
Sgt. Allan Larson has returned to Neubrucke,
Germany, following a 30-day leave,
which he spent visiting friends and relatives
in Bellport over the Christmas holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Frak of McDonald
Avenue, Bellport, announce the engagement
of their daughter, Cheryl Lynn, to James
Pidgeon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Pidgeon
of Whittier Drive, Mastic Beach. Miss Frak is
a graduate of Bellport High School and will
soon graduate from Mid-Suffolk School for
Practical Nurses. Mr. Pidgeon, a graduate of
Mercy High School, Riverhead, is now serving
with the U.S. Navy. No definite date for
the wedding has been set.
Janet Hambly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Hambly of Brook Avenue, Blue
Point, returned Sunday to the State University
at Geneseo. The Hamblys received a
surprise phone call on New Year’s Day from
their son, Army specialist 4 Richard Hambly,
from Qui Nhon, where he spent four days.
The Hamblys had last received word of their
son Dec. 11, when they learned that he had
been wounded in the left shoulder while on
ambush patrol. He has been stationed in An
Khe with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam
for the last eight months.

Lieut. (jg) Linda Lang Stow of the
Nurse Corps, U.S. Navy, has been a visitor
at the home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Wilson Lang of Laurel Street. Her
visit over, she left for Hawaii, reaching
Oahu Jan. 15, where she expects to be
joined by her husband, Lieutenant Commander
Weston Stow, in March.
Mrs. Clarence W. Ruland and Mrs.
John R. Ruland will entertain the members
of the Patchogue Sorosis at bridge
at their 2 p.m. meeting Wednesday, in
the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Patchogue High School senior class
president Bryan Texeira announced this
week that the class of 1969 has chosen
the Pulitzer Prize musical, “How to Succeed
in Business Without Really Trying,”
for its senior show. Faculty leadership
will be provided by Bud Mazura, who
will direct; Ray Lysak, orchestra; William
Morgan, vocal arrangements; Harry
Kachele, set construction; Russ Wygand,
stage crew; Carl Unger, student security,
and Charles Greiner, makeup. The entire
production will be coordinated and produced
by class advisor Paul Casper.
The student director for the show will
be Joan Polk and her student assistant
directors will be Seth Morrison, Joanne
Meo, Russ Bikoff, Bruce Meltzer, Alyne
Klein, Bryan Texeira and Robin Botwinick.
Mrs. William Dietz of Highland Avenue
announces the engagement of her
daughter, Jacquelyn, to Walter Costello,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Costello of
Carman Street. Miss Dietz is the daughter
of the late Mr. Dietz. Miss Dietz
and Mr. Costello are both graduates of
Patchogue High School. Miss Dietz, a
graduate of Cortland College, Cortland,
N.Y., is teaching in the Three Village
School System. Mr. Costello is serving in
the U.S. Army and has just returned from
a year’s tour of duty in Vietnam.
Assigned to the 198th Light Infantry
Brigade is Army Second Lieutenant Stephen
M. Mennuti of East Patchogue,
serving near Chu Lai, Vietnam. He is a platoon leader.
Theodore T. Everitt of South Howells
Point Road, Bellport, flew to Florida
Friday to go quail shooting at the Eagle’s
Nest Gun Club in Punta Gorda as the
guest of Edward B. Austin, a former
resident of Bellport. He returned home Tuesday.
Cathy Barrie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James Barrie of General McLean Drive,
celebrated her 6th birthday with family
and friends over the weekend.

returned to Brown University Monday
after spending the weekend with his family.

12 of their daughter, Susan Marie, to William
S. Bereza, son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Bereza of Epsom Course, Brookhaven.
Miss Burdick is a 1966 graduate of
Marquette Senior High School and is
employed locally by Gertz Department
Store. Mr. Bereza is serving with the
U.S. Air Force, stationed at Goose Bay,Labrador.

Point enjoyed an evening of swimming
at the Connetquot School last Wednesday.

A lovely bride standing next to her
husband was Mrs. Randolph Bruce Carpenter,
the former Miss Carol Ann Jurgens
of Blue Point. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter
were married Sunday in the United
Methodist Church of Bayport and will
make their home in Patchogue. They are
spending two weeks in St. Croix, British West Indies.
His course of training at the U.S. Army
Training Center, Fort Knox, Ky., completed,

Point is now attending Dowling College,
Oakdale. He has been placed on the
active duty list with the National Guard.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Boos of Medford
Avenue, Medford, celebrated their 18th
wedding anniversary Wednesday. The
Booses have two boys and a girl.
Jeffrey Conley, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Conley of Oregon Avenue, celebrated
his 13th birthday Jan. 10, with a
party for his family and all his Oregon
Avenue school friends.
The Medford Fire Department’s Golden
Grenadier color guard came in fourth
place Saturday, competing in the National
Color Guard Championship, in Philadelphia, Pa.

were recently named vice presidents of
Brookhaven Memorial Hospital’s board of directors.
Patchogue Village commissioner
James Reese was on hand with John
Gray, village recreation superintendent,
to present individual trophies to members
of the Cavalier Athletic Club, which
took first place in the recreation department’s
touch football league. Members
of the team are Hewlett Krakaur, Manny
Chiuchiolo, Jack Thompson, Joe Somma,
Richie Downs, Bernie Hansen, Bob
Kalin, Tom Stockner, Tom Lee, Jim Derby,
Gene Martin, Joe Wolfer, Jay Mac-
Donald and team manager Whitey Leavandosky.
Guest of honor at the Saturday night
performance of Patchogue High School’s
all-school production of “South Pacific”
was Mrs. Clifford N. Wade of Blue Point,
a member of the English Department’s
teaching staff, who is retiring from her
duties tomorrow. Mrs. Wade writes of
her complete surprise and delight at
having been chosen for this honor. She
also expresses lavish commendation of
the performance, mentioning the direction
and staging of the play, the music,
dancing, singing, dialogue, lighting and
all-around excellence of the performers.
Returning from a two-year deployment
in the Western Pacific is seaman Joseph
S. Hauser of Patchogue, whose ship, the
guided missile light cruiser USS Providence,
has arrived at San Diego, Calif.
The Providence was flagship for Commander,
Seventh Fleet, and saw action
off the coast of Vietnam.
The Hagerman Fire Department held
their installation dinner Saturday at
Lands End in Sayville after being inspected
at the firehouse by fire commissioner
Ralph Stephani. Those installed were
fire chief Nicholas Masem, first assistant
Jim Colichio, second assistant Wallace
Stephani, captain Frank Provenzano,
second lieutenant Michael Rignola,
and first lieutenant Frank Scavelli. Patrick
Frabizio was given his first merit
award. Others receiving merit awards
were Richard Rignola, Carmine Marrazzo,
Louis Valentino, Vincent Shelley,
Michael Rignola and Ralph Stephani Sr.
Miss Leiney Piro of Bellport has
returned to the State University at Buffalo
after spending a few days between
semesters at the home of her brotherin-
law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. William
Pastern of Taylor, Mich.
Wayne Sohl, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Sohl of Station Road and a
senior at New York University, flew to
St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Saturday for
a two-week visit with Kenneth Newman.
Mr. Newman, who is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Morris Newman of Brookside Avenue,
teaches in St. Thomas.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Budny, who
recently moved to Derwood, Md., were
given a best wishes party by their many
friends at the Christ Church parish hall
on Saturday night. A buffet supper was
followed by dancing. The evening was
planned by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vollmer,
chairmen, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hallock,
Mr. and Mrs. Al Rand, Mr. and Mrs.
Lawrence Cummings, Mr. and Mrs. John
Ince, Mr. and Mrs. Rowland F. Smith and
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Fuller.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Simmons of
Browns Lane flew to the Panama Canal
Zone last week to visit their son, Peter,
who is stationed at Port Gulick. They
stayed in Miami, Fla. for two days on
their return flight.
Seaman 1/c Milton Bevis Jr., son of
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bevis of Paumanake
Road, Blue Point, was home on a 10-day
leave from United States Coast Guard
Station, Annette, Alaska.
Miss Elizabeth H. Noa, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. George B. Noa of Nelson Avenue,
has been named to the fall quarter
Dean’s List at State University of New
York, Agricultural and Technical College, Alfred, N.Y.
Deanna Wade, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Rodney Wade of Pennsylvania Avenue,
Medford, who celebrated her 12th
birthday Sunday, was given a day in New
York City, accompanied by her parents,
brothers and sisters.
