Serving with the Force Logistic Command,
headquartered at Camp Books,
eight miles north of Da Nang, Vietnam, is
Marine staff sergeant Thomas C. Rowse
of Patchogue. The FLC is the largest
supply, service and maintenance organization
in the Marine Corps.
Aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS
Constellation, airman apprentice Nicholas
F. Calfa of Patchogue has arrived at
San Diego, Calif., after a tour of combat
duty off the coast of Vietnam.
Mr. and Mrs. Saul R. Plonsky of Fair
Lawn, N.J., announce the engagement
of their daughter, Barbara, to Richard
D. Rein, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Rein
of Chestnut Avenue. Miss Plonsky will
receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in
English from C.W. Post College of Long
Island University in June. Mr. Rein is a
graduate of Patchogue High School and
holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from
C.W. Post College, Class of 1968. He was
recently awarded an assistantship at the
Arthur T. Roth Graduate School of Business
Administration (LIU), where he is
pursuing a course of study for a master’s
degree. Mr. Rein is a member of the New
York State National Guard. A January
1970 wedding is planned.
Mr. and Mrs. William Bohuslaw of Sterling
Avenue, East Patchogue, announce
that their sons, William and James, made
the Dean’s List at Suffolk Community
College for the semester just ended.
James has been granted a transfer to
Potsdam University and will continue his
education there beginning in September.
The East Patchogue Civic Association
held their meeting in the conference
room of the Tinker National Bank in
Patchogue Tuesday evening, when plans
were made for their annual dinner to be
held sometime in May. The next meeting
will be held for the purpose of installing
new officers as follows: George Mason,
president; Harry Maile, vice president;
William Biggs, treasurer; Anita Seale,
recording secretary, and Anne Weingart
and Bonnie Skidmore, corresponding secretaries.
Miss Karen Herzog, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Kenneth F. Herzog of Irving
Avenue, was the guest of honor at a bridal
shower given recently by her sister
Suzanne and Mrs. William Thompson
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick
McBride of Irving Avenue. Miss Herzog
will become the bride of lance corporal

Saturday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Patchogue.
Miss Diane Simmons of Browns Lane,
Bellport, flew to Puerto Rico Monday for
a week’s vacation.
Feb. 22, Miss Shirley Carle drove the
Misses Blanche Carle, Theresa Wells
and Josephine Wimbush to the youth
conference which was held at Mother
AME Zion Church in New York City. Miss
Wells and Miss Wimbush were delegates
representing the Sunday school of the
Ruth AME Zion Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hobdell of
Browns Lane are the parents of their
first child, a son, John Robert, born at
Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Feb. 23.

A surprise baby shower was given for
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Quinn Saturday evening
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Anderson of Chapel Avenue, Brookhaven.
Six couples were present.
Kathleen Morley, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Morley of Corey Avenue,
Blue Point, entertained at a pizza party
at her home Feb. 20 on the occasion of
her 11th birthday. Her guests were Nancy
and Janet Bianco, Helen and Joanne Mazzei,
Tina Palmquist, Joanne Campbell,
Sherri Aberry, Sharon Streiffler, Marsha
Drake, Jill Sanwald and Karen Worken.
Bobby Morley celebrated his 9th birthday
Feb. 24 at a bowling party held at
the Patchogue Bowling Alley. His guests
were Paul Wines, Kevin Fox, Donny and
Briggs Houston and Timmy Honce.
Mr. and Mrs. James Lagumis of Mastic
Road, Mastic Beach, celebrated their
27th wedding anniversary Feb. 20 with a family dinner.

Police officer Thomas Patrick Quinlan
was one of 64 men who graduated
from the Los Angeles Police Academy
on Feb. 21 after completing the
20-week multiphase training program.
Officer Quinlan is a native of Patchogue
and attended Suffolk County
Community College. His parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Quinlan, are now residing in Patchogue.
Steven L. Nardi, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Nardi of Laurel Street, a
student at Concordia College, Athens,
W. Va., is a member of the cast of
Moliere’s dramatic satire on religious
hypocrisy, “Tartuffe.” It will be presented
by the Concordia College Theatre
Group, Thursday through Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. John Scholz of Swezey
Street wish to announce the engagement
of their daughter, Karen Lynn
Baussmann, to James DeVito Jr., son
of Mr. and Mrs. James DeVito of Conklin
Avenue. Miss Baussmann is a graduate
of Patchogue High School and is
employed at Peoples National Bank
of Patchogue. Mr. DeVito is a 1965
graduate of Patchogue High School
and is employed with the New York
State Department of Transportation.
No date has been set for the wedding.
Completing basic training, two
Patchogue airmen, Michael J. Matty
and George W. Severin Jr., both at
Lackland AFB, Texas, have received
new assignments. Airman Matty will
receive training in the aircraft equipment
maintenance field at Chanute
AFB, Ill. Airman Severin goes to Sheppard
AFB, Texas for training in aircraft maintenance.
The patients in the pediatric ward of
Brookhaven Memorial Hospital were
the recipients of two Easter egg trees,
which were made by Brownie Troop
1387 of East Patchogue, under the
direction of leader Joanne Day and
assistant leader Karen Tafe.
At a recent Barn Dance, held at
the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in
Sayville, Phil and Shirley Muench of
Taylor Avenue, East Patchogue, won
a trophy as the best dressed couple.
W. Dorsey Smith of Bellport Lane
has just returned from two weeks of
racing in Miami and Nassau. He participated
in the Southern Ocean Racing Circuit.
A surprise baby shower was held
recently for Mrs. Robert Edwards of
South Howells Point Road. Co-hostesses
for the shower were Mrs. James
Hunter of Brookhaven and Miss Peggy
Staples of Bellport. Mrs. Edwards
received a lovely corsage and a baby
bassinet, among other gifts presented
to her by the 20 guests present.
The shower was held in the Wesley
House of the Bellport United Methodist
Church. Mrs. Alice Hawkins assisted
the hostesses with refreshments
and decorations.
Robert S. Mullaney of South Howells
Point Road, former program manager
for the Grumman Lunar Module,
on March 3 watched the launch of the
Apollo 9 at Cape Kennedy, Fla.
Miss Constance Krebs, daughter of
Mrs. Ruth Krebs of Association Road,
was graduated March 6 as a registered
nurse from Queens General Hospital
Center School of Nursing in Jamaica.
A graduate of Bellport High School,
she will be employed at St. Charles
Hospital, Port Jefferson.
Saturday evening, a “love-in” costume
party was given by Jan and Kathy
Oosting of Old Stump Road, Brookhaven,
for 60 of their friends. The evening’s
entertainment was provided by
John Baker of Beaver Dam Road, and
the host, Jan. All the guests joined the
two guitarists in singing. The guest of
honor was Stanley Waltzer of Fox Run
Lane, since it was his birthday.

A new assignment to Chanute AFB,
Ill., has been given airman Kevin Marx
of Patchogue, who has completed
basic training at Lowry AFB, Colo. He
will receive advanced training in auto
mechanics and perhaps diesel.
Looking ahead to their wedding trip
to Denmark, the Netherlands, England
and Ireland are Mr. and Mrs. Burnell
Wayne Vincent following their ceremony
in Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C.
Church, Patchogue, and reception at
Tojen’s, Feb. 15. Mr. Vincent is with the
Department of the Army in Washington,
D.C. His bride, the former Miss Mary
Lou Maloney of Patchogue, is a stewardess
for United Airlines.
A fire started at 4:02 a.m. Saturday
in the cellar area of Nancy’s restaurant
on South Ocean Avenue and worked its
way up through the first floor beams
into the kitchen and then to other
areas, Patchogue fire chief Effie Yost
said. Battalion chief Vincent Felice
led the fight on the blaze, which was
brought under control about 4:50 a.m.
Five pumpers and a hook ladder engine
were at the fire, together with 60 volunteer
firemen from the Patchogue
Fire Department. Part of the roof was
also destroyed. There were no injuries, Yost said.
Miss Kathleen Russo, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Gaetano Russo of South
Summit Avenue, has been named to
the Dean’s List for the fall semester at
Russell Sage College, Troy, N.Y. She is
a junior majoring in physical therapy.
“His and Hers” is the title of the
unique fashion show to be presented
Wednesday evening at the Patchogue
Junior High School, South Ocean Avenue,
sponsored by the PTA. The show
will engage as models both the boy and
girl students as well as faculty members
to display the newest fashions
from the 5-7-9 and Pacesetter shops.
Mrs. Elizabeth Loizides is chairman of
the affair. Some of the male models will
include Gabe Licciardello, Gary Smith,
Frank Scutari, Don Chiuchiolo, Dave
Antonio and Jeff Juzwiak.
Mrs. Shirley Tuzza of Bayview Avenue,
East Patchogue, held an informal
cocktail party this weekend in honor of
Miss Eva Ramirez of East Patchogue,
who is leaving to be an airline stewardess
in Florida. Miss Ramirez last June
earned the title of Miss New York State
in a beauty contest.
About 230 “laddies and colleens” celebrated
the wearing of the green at
a St. Patrick’s Day dance held in the
auditorium of Mary Immaculate R.C.
Church, Bellport, on Saturday night.
Co-chairmen of the dance were Mrs.
Peter Grucci and Mrs. Felix Grucci.
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Munson and
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mahoney were
co-hosts at a cocktail party held at the
Munson home on Bellport Lane before
the St. Patrick’s Day dance on Saturday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Dey C. Demarest of Bellport
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Dale Kay, to William Frank
Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Scott of Yukon, Pa. Miss Demarest is
a graduate of Westminster College and
teaches in the Port Washington School
District. Mr. Scott is a quality control
inspector for the Module Corporation
in Scottdale, Pa. A June wedding is planned.
An official notice from the Parachute
School, Fort Benning, Ga., says
Pvt. Terry McGuirk, a Bellport summer
resident, has won the right to wear
the wings and boots of the volunteer
paratrooper, having made his fifth and
qualifying jump, a night tactical leap
identical to actual combat work such
as was used in Sicily. He completed the
course in four weeks of jump training.
The notice was received by Frank Trotta,
Bellport news agent.
Cadet Thomas L. LaGuardia was
recently awarded a $250 scholarship
from Marine Square for outstanding
scholastic achievement while attending
New York State Maritime College
at Fort Schuyler, Bronx. This is the
third award that Cadet LaGuardia has
earned. This semester he has achieved
a 3.8 index in the nuclear science
field. He is a graduate of Bellport
High School and the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas LaGuardia of the Bellport
Beach Estates. He will be graduated in
June and plans to marry Miss Roberta
Burghart of Franklin Lakes, N.J.
Miss Jean Gardner and Miss Janet
Maas attended a matinee performance
of “Jimmy Shine,” starring Dustin Hoffman
at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
During intermission they visited backstage
with members of the cast.

Fifty-year members of Patchogue Post
269, American Legion, received citations
for their continuous membership
Saturday night at the golden anniversary
celebration of the post. The 50-year
members include Frank Sacco, Alfred
Overton, Maurice Siegel, Lyman Terrell,
Thomas Truman, Dr. Charles Bove,
George Roberts and Sigvard Olsen.
Andrew Wagner, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Wagner of Walnut Avenue, has
been named to the Dean’s List at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y.
He is in his senior year, majoring in
industrial engineering.
Miss Deborah Winans of North Prospect
Avenue is a member of the Yankton
College, Yankton, S.D. Symphonic Wind
Ensemble, which has been touring western
South Dakota. The group has been
performing in schools and churches.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest R. Parent of
Yorktown Heights, N.Y., formerly of
Centereach, announce the engagement
of their daughter, Brenda Dale Parent,
to Kenneth R. Meyer, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas Meyer of Patchogue. Miss
Parent is a graduate of Newfield High
School and attended New York State
University at Fredonia. She was formerly
employed by the Reader’s Digest,
Pleasantville, N.Y. Mr. Meyer is a graduate
of Patchogue High School and Suffolk
Community College. He is a seaman
apprentice in the U.S. Naval Reserve
and expects to be assigned to active
duty in the near future.
Airman Kevin F. Van Kleef of Patchogue
has been selected for training
at Fort Lee Army Installation, Virginia.
He will become an AF food service specialist.
Miss Virginia Beth, a senior at Mount
Holyoke College, South Hadley, Mass.,
is spending the spring vacation with her
parents, Dr. and Mrs. Richard Beth of
Leisurely Lane, Bellport.
On Friday noon, a farewell luncheon
was given for Miss Marjorie Binnington
at the Bellport Middle School Library.
Miss Binnington, who has been library
aide during the year, is moving to New York City.
Mrs. John J. Holland Sr., of Circuit
Road celebrated her birthday with her
family Sunday. The festivities began
with cocktails at the home of her son
and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent
Holland of South Howells Point
Road, followed by dinner at the Pine
Grove Inn. Many family members
attended from Patchogue, East Patchogue,
Bellport, Wantagh, Holbrook and Bay Shore.
Thomas W. Shreeve, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Walton W. Shreeve of South Country
Road, has been named to the first
semester’s Dean’s List at Middlebury
College, Middlebury, Vt. He is a senior.
The 1969 boating season has started
in Brookhaven. The first boat of the
season was lowered on Friday morning
at Richard Tooker’s boatyard, Newey
Lane, Brookhaven. C. Overton Tremper
of South Howells Point Road, Bellport,
was on hand to watch his 23-foot boat,
The Lisa, let down the ramp.
Thomas Wiswall of Beaver Dam Road
is home for spring recess from Trinity
College, Hartford, Conn.
Friday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Maddalena of Atlantic Street entertained
the following five couples after
the donkey basketball game played at
the senior high school, Beaver Dam
Road: Mr. and Mrs. R. Bassford, G.
Reh, J. Viola, P. Sussking and R. Hausner.
On Saturday evening, Mr. and Mrs.
Maddalena served a buffet dinner to the
entire varsity basketball team and the
varsity cheerleaders. A film was shown
after the dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bowers and
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Doyle have been
selected chairmen of the activities for
the month of April for the Mr. and Mrs.
Club of Our Lady of the Snow R.C.
Church, Blue Point. They are looking
for new members to join with them in
promoting a better understanding and
develop a better social life with all the
married people of the parish. Dues are
50 cents a month.
In Vietnam, Lance Corporal Walter H.
McLaughlin of Shirley is serving with
the Thirty-Sixth Paraloft at Phu Bai. He
will be there for 13 months.
