The Tulip Time Ball held Saturday at
Felice’s of Patchogue for the benefit of
Brookhaven Memorial Hospital was a
big success. Some of the highlights were:
A tour of the dance floor was enjoyed
by John White, former president of the
board of directors of Brookhaven Memorial
Hospital, and daughter Susan; a “pretty
orchid for a pretty lady” was pinned
on Mrs. Robert McKibbin by her husband
Robert; accepting an award of telephone
company stock for her daughter Kim
was Mrs. Louis Pfeiffle, with Mrs. John
Pokorny and Jack Ellsworth of radio
station WALK looking on with approval;
surrounded by beauty, Jack Ellsworth
flashed a happy smile as he posed with
Mrs. Edward Dietz, Mrs. Robert Starke,
Mrs. Clifford Hale, Mrs. Walter Vernon
and Mrs. John Pokorny; doing the Watusi
or whatever were Mr. and Mrs. Bud Keyes
at the well-attended event.
Mr. and Mrs. George E. Dietz of Highland
Avenue, Patchogue, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Cheryl
Ann, to Carl A. Dippel Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Dippel of Falcon Avenue. Miss
Dietz, a 1966 graduate of Patchogue High
School, graduated from Suffolk County
Community College in 1968. She is now
attending Dowling College, Oakdale. Mr.
Dippel is a 1964 graduate of Patchogue
High School and will graduate from Albany
State College in June. He plans to
teach chemistry in September. No date
has been set for the wedding.
Monday was the last day of March,
but it felt more like the first. A light
snow fell early Sunday morning, coupled
with temperatures only in the 30s,
left the Lindenhurst High School field in
unplayable condition. Result: Patchogue’s
opening game of the baseball season was
canceled. Darwin Thomas, a senior righthander
who won six games as the team’s
No. 2 pitcher last year, was scheduled to
be Patchogue’s starting pitcher and will
probably start again opening day.
Barbara Hunter, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Herbert Wagner of Maple Street,
Bellport, writes “Shop Talk,” a weekly
column on topics of interest to the consumer
in the Westbury Times. Items in
the column range from January white
sales to annoying telephone calls, from
grapes to detergents, anything which may
be of interest to the consumer in fighting
his private war with the ever-diminishing dollar.
Peter Rand hosted a party for members
of the cast and the production staff
of “The King and I” following the final
performance of the musical presented by
the Bellport Senior High School Saturday
night. The cooperative party, held at the
Rand home on Munsell Road, was chaperoned
by Mr. and Mrs. Al Rand.
Mrs. Andrew M. Underhill Sr. of Bellport
Lane spent from Wednesday to Saturday
of last week in Wapping, Conn.,
painting trays with a friend, Mrs. Sherwood Martin.
Miss Barbara Winsche, a senior at
Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., is
spending spring vacation with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Winsche of Shore Road.
Twenty members of Boy Scout Troop
28 enjoyed an overnight at the state park
in Southaven on Saturday. Half of the
Scouts went by car, while the other 10
hiked from the Bellport Community Center
to the park on Saturday morning. The
group was escorted by Scoutmaster Robert
Brown and one of the boys’ fathers, Robert Hausner.
On March 21, Beth Rich of Bay Road,
Brookhaven, gave a surprise going-away
party for Douglas Haviland, who left
March 25 for the Naval base at Memphis,
Tenn., to serve a two-year enlistment. Also
attending the party were Alice Emma,
Denise Hunter, Marion Hildebrand, Barbara
Tang, Dana Chambers, Frank Bonfiglio,
Andy Chambers, Kenneth Ferch and Louis Centrone.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Gerhard of
Brookhaven announce the engagement of
their daughter, Mary, to Gerald Murphy,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Murphy of
Port Jefferson Station. Both Miss Gerhard
and Mr. Murphy are graduates of Longwood
High School, Middle Island. No date
has been set for the wedding.
A surprise baby shower for Mrs. Hans
Henke of Patchogue was held for 32
guests at the home of Mrs. Henke’s sister,
Mrs. Robert Stitt of Eatondale Avenue,
Blue Point, the evening of March 22.
Three Junior Girl Scouts, Karen Rossiter,
Helen Mazzei and Cathy Worthington,
completed a course in cooking given
by Mrs. Stanislaus Dubowski of Bergen
Lane March 18 by serving dinner at the
Dubowski home. The children of Mr. and
Mrs. Dubowski, Jana, Claudia and Stefan,
were included in the festivities.

Kenneth Goll, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene
Goll of Medford Avenue, spent the Easter
weekend at the home of his parents, on
leave from his studies at the Aeronautics
School in Tulsa, Okla.
A surprise visit by friends and relatives
awaited Corporal Robert L. Sheppard,
son of Mrs. Ella Sheppard of Bay Avenue,
on the evening of his return home March
31 from a year of service in Vietnam. The
guests brought a huge yellow and white
cake inscribed “Welcome Home Larry.”
Over the Easter weekend, Corp. Sheppard
became engaged to Miss Maureen Raftery
of Astoria.
Miss Barbara E. Avery, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey Avery of South
Country Road, a student at Junior College,
Chambersburg, Pa., spent her Easter
vacation at her home.
Frank J. Salamone Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Salamone of Shore Drive, has
been named to the Dean’s List at Ithaca
College. He was among the top 10 percent
of the students in scholarship in the
Department of Drama.
Ready for a tour of the southern states
are newly married Mr. and Mrs. Larry G.
Speicher, whose ceremony took place
Saturday in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C.
Church, Patchogue. Mr. Speicher and his
bride, the former Miss Judith A. Dioguardo of
Patchogue, will reside in Hauppauge.
Patchogue Kiwanians recently welcomed
a new member,
Pat Tecar of Pat’s Market, North Patchogue,
into the membership of the Patchogue Kiwanis
Club. Vincent Holland, Tony Monidis and
club president Charles
Faulkner were on hand to welcome the new member.
To Port Hueneme, Calif., goes airman
Thomas Dewar of Patchogue, who has completed
basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas.
He will be trained in the civil engineering
mechanical/electrical field.
A meeting to discuss plans for the Dessert
Card party to be held 8 p.m. May 8 by
the Rosary Society of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
R.C. Church was held recently and was
attended by Rosary members: Mesdames
Lucille DeLeva, president; Marie Benincasa,
vice president; Ann Knoedl, secretary and
Peggy Benincasa, treasurer. Bryce and Peter
Suydam have resumed their studies at Colgate
University in Hamilton after spending the
spring vacation with their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Lispenard Suydam of Bellport Lane.
Thomas L. LaGuardia, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Saverio LaGuardia of Otis Road, has been
named to the Dean’s List at the State University of
New York Maritime College, Fort Schuyler, the Bronx.
A family Easter dinner was held at The
Bellport by the Olsens, Jacobs, and Testas
from Bellport, Brookhaven, Brooklyn and Rockville Centre.
A pizza party was given for Thomas
Noehren Tuesday in celebration of his 6th
birthday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Noehren of Bieselin Road. His guests
were Billy Tunney, Sean Crow, Robert
Johnson, Gregory Coleman and Thomas’ sister, Nancy.
An armor specialist, Army Pvt. 1/c
Bruce Richardson of Bellport has been
assigned to the First Cavalry Americal
Division near Chu Lai, Vietnam. He had
previously completed reconnaissance
training at the Army Armor Center, Fort Knox, Ky.
Arrival in Vietnam for Specialist 4 Donald
Miller of Blue Point places him with
the medical corps at Pleiku. He is an operating
room technician and received basic
training at Fort Jackson, S.C., and medical
training at Fort Sam Huston, Texas.
At the last meeting of the Blue Point
Lions Club, Joseph Fedelem of Maple
Street and James Kearney of Pheasant
Avenue were named co-chairmen of the
men’s and women’s fashion show and
cocktail party to be held in a few weeks
at the Republican Club.
A return from overseas duty in May is
scheduled for Air Force Sergeant John A.
Newhouse of Blue Point. He is serving as
a jet mechanic on the F4C phantom jet,
a reconnaissance aircraft, at Udorn AFB, Thailand.
Miss Ann Rina Perrotta of Shirley
recently completed a three-week Mohawk
Airlines stewardess training course at
the airline’s headquarters in Utica. The
stewardess course, which was taught in
Mohawk’s new $4 million training center,
included first aid, customer service, emergency
procedures and airline operations.
Miss Perrotta is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Peter Perrotta of Auborn Avenue.

Mrs. Oscar Pelzman of North Ocean Avenue,
is a member of the 60-voice Harpur
Chorale of the State University of New
York, Binghamton. She has just completed
a concert tour of Western New York and
Canada with the chorale and participated
in a home concert Sunday at the Don A.
Watters Theatre on campus.
Mesdames Henry Hamann, Philip Meany,
George Ruland, George Furman and
Charles R. Meany were hostesses at the
Colonel Josiah Smith chapter annual

Good Citizens Award Dinner at Wesley
Hall of the United Methodist Church of Patchogue.
The old T and S Lumber building on East
Main Street in Patchogue is being demolished
to make way for a proposed store
complex. The site is at the south of Main
Street, west of Grove Avenue. To the west
is Reich Brothers, while the Long Island
Rail Road is at the south boundary.
Three young men were among outstanding
Air Force Reserve Officers Training
Corps cadets who attended the 21st
National Arnold Air Society conclave
recently concluded in New Orleans. They
are: Cadet Andrew J. Wagner, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Wagner of Walnut Avenue,
Patchogue, of the class of 1969 at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Cadet
Richard F. Wittler, son of Mr. and Mrs.
George H. Wittler of Colonial Drive, East
Patchogue, a member of the ’71 class at
Otterbein College, Wasterville, Ohio; and
Cadet Arthur E. Gross, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur J. Gross of Durkee Lane, East
Patchogue, member of the class of ’70 at
Butler University, Indianapolis and a 1966
graduate of Bellport High School.
Duke A. Colichio, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Anthony Colichio Jr., of Amsterdam Avenue,

the Dean’s List for the winter quarter at
Strayer Junior College, Washington, D.C.
A graduate of Mercy High School, he is
enrolled in the business administration
program, working toward an Associate in Arts degree.
Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Davies of Hewlett
Avenue, East Patchogue, entertained on
March 28 members of the bridal party in
honor of the marriage March 29 of their
son, Frederick Jr., to Miss Judith Judelson.
Out of town guests included Tom Gillespie
of Albany and Eddie Parker of Colorado.
DeWitt Davies returned to Dartmouth College
April 2 after attending his brother’s
wedding as best man. Mr. Davies has been
named to the Dean’s List at Dartmouth for
the fall term and has been honored by an
invitation to join the secret society, the Dragon.
A dinner party was given for Jayne
MacLeod in honor of her 11th birthday
Saturday night by her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Hugh MacLeod of Bieselin Road, Bellport.
The highlight of the evening was the
appearance of a gorilla and his amusing
antics, played by Jayne’s older brother,
Jim. Those present at the party were Wanda
Laviano, Laurie Cummings, Eva Chiuchiolo,
Susan and Karen Schuman, Anne
Strickland, Laurie Gongolski, Janet Hubbs and Christa Linsolota.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Wood and daughters,
Cindy and Allison of Station Road,
spent several days last week sightseeing in Washington, D.C.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edwards of South
Howells Point Road announce the arrival
of their first child, a son, Timothy Robert,
weighing 6 pounds, at Brookhaven Memorial
Hospital on Easter morning.

after their marriage ceremony. The
couple is touring Upstate New York. Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Zebrowski of Pleasant
Avenue, Blue Point, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Linda, to J.
Paul Csabon, son of Mr. and Mrs. George
E. Csabon of Shirley. Miss Zebrowski is a
dental assistant for Dr. Murray Greenberg
in Patchogue. Mr. Csabon, who attended
Suffolk County Community College,
Selden, is entering the U.S. Air Force. The
wedding will take place in the fall.
The Rod and Reel Club of Blue Point
held a meeting at their clubhouse on Montauk
Highway last week. Neophyte David
Frazier regaled the members with the story
of his first fishing trip with Richard Rose
and James Brody aboard the Sheldrake. A
tentative date was set for flounder fishing in the bay.

Brooke Belzak of Patchogue caught a
2¼-pound brook trout Saturday while fishing
in Tuthill’s Creek, West Patchogue. The
10-year-old River Avenue School student
used light spinning gear in bringing his
beauty to the net. While Brooke and his
brothers have been catching many nice
brown trout in Tuthill’s Creek, this beauty
is the “big one” all anglers hope for.
Brooke has entered his fish in the Suffolk
County Freshwater Anglers Association contest.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest J. Speiss of Washington
Avenue held a buffet cocktail party
for over 50 guests Saturday in celebration
of their 25th wedding anniversary. Tomorrow
they are sailing on the Olympia on a
week’s cruise to Bermuda.
Patchogue Village Recreation commissioner
James Reese presented the most
valuable player award for the boys junior
high basketball league, sponsored by the
Village of Patchogue Recreation Department,
to Lenny Smith of the Bullets, at
the Four Sisters Community Center last
Thursday. Mike Aviano of the first-place
Midgets was presented the sportsmanship
award. In addition to winning the most
valuable player award, Smith was also the
league’s leading scorer, with 241 points in nine games.
Wedded Saturday in St. Joseph the
Worker R.C. Church, East Patchogue, were
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony P. Morrisette, who
then greeted their guests at the Knights of
Columbus Hall, Patchogue. The couple is
touring the New England states and Canada.
The bride is the former Miss Kathy
Muriel Brandi of East Patchogue.
Pat Famigletti of Munsell Road, East
Patchogue attended a sweet sixteen birthday
party Friday night at the home of Marcy
Gallo of Zipp Avenue, hosted by Elaine
Gallo, cousin of Marcy and Maureen Daly.
About 25 attended the festivities.
Army Private Arthur Armbruster of East
Patchogue earned his sharpshooter’s medal
on graduating from basic training April
4 at Fort Jackson, S.C. He also received
his E2 stripe and a certificate of merit for
being a high firer in his company. On completion
of his present assignment at Fort
Gordon, Ga., he will receive training there
as a military policeman.
On Friday the VFW Hall on Dunton Avenue
was the scene of the “Fellows Friday
Nite Out.” Clams, free beer and sports
films were enjoyed by 200 men.
Mesdames Carol LeBrun, Mary Wallen of
Bellport and Dorry Quappe of Brookhaven
had a bon voyage party for Maryrose Bono
of East Patchogue and Mrs. Diane Nessi
of Bellport at the home of Mrs. J. Temple
of Munsell Road. Gifts were presented to
the honored guests, who left on a cruise
Saturday with their respective husbands, Tony and Louie.
Sheryl and Suzette Emma, daughters of
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Emma of Melrose
Parkway, had a joint birthday party Saturday
afternoon. About 25 little people
helped to eat the ice cream and cake.

of the Broadway musical, “Promises,
Promises,” on Saturday: Mr. and Mrs.

Mrs. Charles Axtmann, Miss Madge
Greene and Mrs. Alf Christofferson spent
the weekend at Miss Greene’s house at Bozman, Md.
Miss Laurie Ann Cummings, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Cummings of Bieselin
Road, celebrated her 11th birthday
with a slumber party at her home Saturday
night. Her guests were Wanda Laviano,
Kim Skidmore, Mary Butler, Jayne
MacLeod, Leslie Boulin and Alissa Tranis.
Miss Karen Bohn has resigned from
her position at the Department of Public
Works and will start working at the Federal
Bureau of Investigation in Washington,
D.C., Monday. She is in Washington this
week looking for an apartment.
Mary Ellen McKenna of Park Avenue,
Blue Point, entertained her lifelong friend,
Martha Mary Rose, at her home Thursday
afternoon. After luncheon, the ladies
retired to the backyard and spent the afternoon
making mud pies. They are only four.
Navy 2/c petty officer Richard Zebrowski
of Blue Point is stationed in Iceland. He
has been serving in the comptroller’s office
for the past 20 months.
Mr. and Mrs. James P. Lyons of Smith
Road, Shirley, announce the engagement
of their daughter, Patricia A. Lyons, to
William A. Neilsen, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Egon Neilsen of Sayville. Miss Lyons, a
graduate of William Floyd High School,
class of 1966, is employed by the Suffolk
County Department of Audit and Control.
Mr. Neilsen graduated from Connetquot
High School, class of 1964. He is employed
by Clare Rose Inc. An autumn wedding is planned.
