Miss Donna J. Schultz, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas C. Schultz of Cedar Avenue,
appears on the President’s List as of June
1969 at the State University College, Potsdam,
N.Y. Miss Schultz, a senior and a voice major
in the Crane Department of Music, has a part
in Mozart’s “Magic Flute,” to be presented
tomorrow and Saturday at the college.
Adolphus Ball of Coral Gables, Fla., a
former resident of Patchogue and brother
of Harry Ball, is spending a few weeks here
visiting his sister-in-law, Mrs. Florence Ball,
and his sister, Mrs. Lillian Hanna. It is his first
return to Patchogue in 30 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur W. Egan of Daisy
Street have returned from a trip to England.
They visited Mr. Egan’s father, Arthur E.
Egan, formerly of Patchogue, now of Largo,
Fla., and his aunt, Miss Amy Egan, at Hayling
Island. The 800-mile tour of southern and
central England included five days in London.
Happy couple are Mr. and Mrs. Bruce A.
Hoppe, whose recent wedding took place in
the United Methodist Church of Patchogue.
Their wedding trip was three weeks in Florida.
They are living in Florida. Mrs. Hoppe
is the former Miss Jean S. Corrado of Patchogue.
Receiving his discharge from the Army is
John Bugala of Patchogue, having served four
years, two of them in Vietnam.
Promotion to his present rank has been
given Martin F. Zimmermann of Patchogue
while he was serving with the Personnel
Administration Inspection Team at Fort Devens, Mass.
A barbecue supper was given for Katherine
Chrien in celebration of her 11th birthday
Sunday afternoon by her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Chrien of South Country Road,
Bellport. Her guests were Peggy and Kathy
Mayman, Lori Calabro, Ann Remsberg, her
sister Elizabeth and brother Tom. Bob Chrien
acted as chef.
Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gordon of
Academy Lane were his brothers and their
wives, Mr. and Mrs. Roger V. Gordon and Mr.
and Mrs. William W. Gordon of Sarasota, Fla.,
who visited here for a few days last week.
Mrs. Albert Hawes of Covington, Ky., is
visiting her brother-in-law and sister, Capt.
O.S. Reading of North Howells Point Road,
for several weeks.
Jimmy Cumming, son of Mr. and Mrs.
James Cumming of General McLean Drive,
returned from a few days visit with his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Smith
of Northville.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hertlein of Country Club
Road were pleasantly surprised Wednesday
morning when their son, John D. Hertlein
FTG3, returned home from Rota, Spain. Mr.
and Mrs. Hertlein and family haven’t seen
their son in two years. After spending a few
days leave, John will report to Charleston, S.C.
Mr. and Mrs. Steven Gould have moved
from Bellport to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands,
where Mr. Gould is associated with Jeffrey
Buck in a boat chartering business. Mr. Buck,
formerly of Bellport, and his wife, the former
Joanne Comstock of Brookhaven, have been
living in the islands for the past year.
Members of the Bellport Fire Department
and the Junior Fire Department marched in
a parade at field day in Cutchogue Saturday.
The junior department was awarded a prize.
W. Tyson Dominy Jr., Bruce Bell and John
Hulse spent last week at the Boy Scout camp
in Wading River.
Miss Virginia T. Garms, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Herman J. Garms of Provost Avenue,
has received an appointment as a typist at
the FBI headquarters, Washington, D.C. A
June graduate of Bellport High School, Miss
Garms will begin her new job on Monday.
She obtained her new position as a result of
the FBI’s extensive recruiting program on
Long Island.
Eileen Dugan, daughter of Mrs. F. Howard
Dugan of Ocean Avenue, Blue Point, was the
guest of honor at a surprise walk-in miscellaneous
bridal shower given by her bridesmaids
at her apartment in New York City.
Miss Dugan will marry Patrick J. Duffy at Our
Lady of the Snow R.C. Church, Saturday.
John Vernon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Vernon of Woodland Avenue, is attending the
Pocono Sports Camp in East Strousburg, Pa.

Mr. and Mrs. John Poulos of Carman Street
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July
29. Both natives of Greece, they were married
in New York City in 1919 and have lived in
Patchogue for the past 49 years. They have two
sons, Gus Poulos of the Union Savings Bank,
Patchogue, and Peter Poulos, superintendent
of recreation for the Town of Brookhaven, and
four grandchildren.
Richard D. Rein of Chestnut Avenue has
begun an extensive yearlong program leading
to a commission as second lieutenant in the
New York Army National Guard and Army
of the United States, at Empire State Military
Academy, Camp Smith, N.Y.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul W. Roman, daughter
Nancy and son Dennis, of Everett Street have
just returned from a two-week vacation spent
in Florida. They visited Florida’s Silver Springs,
saw Moon Shot and toured Cape Kennedy.
Mr. and Mrs. James Paduano of Louis Avenue,
North Patchogue, gave a dinner Thursday
night in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Van
Dien and son, Chucky, of Oakdale, who are
soon moving to Florida.
Mrs. Virginia Rustman, crossing guard for
Tremont Avenue School, received a bouquet
of roses and an honorary membership to the
Tremont Avenue Safety Patrol Club recently.
Tremont student Lt. William Klepp made the
presentation on behalf of the Safety Patrol.
A journey to Bainbridge, Md., lies ahead for
Third Class Petty Officer of the Navy and Mrs.
Allen A. Barth, who were married Sunday in
the United Methodist Church of Patchogue. A
reception was held for 110 guests at the Wagon
Wheel in Port Jefferson Station. The bride, a
medical assistant, is the former Miss Patricia
Lynn DeLaVergne of Patchogue. The bridegroom
will be attending nuclear power school
at the Bainbridge Naval Base.
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Greene of East Patchogue
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Susan, to Douglas Kaller, son of Mr.
and Mrs. E. Earl Kaller of Patchogue. Miss
Greene is attending Suffolk County Community
College, Selden. Mr. Kaller is attending the
University of Long Island, Southampton. No
date has been set for the wedding.
Miss Elizabeth Fortune, a student at Patchogue
High School, and Miss Diane Guzik,
who attends James Wilson Young High School,
Bayport, have been selected to represent their
schools on the 1969-70 Abraham and Strauss
Teen Fashion Board at Smith Haven Mall. Both
young ladies will serve the entire year, helping
to create and organize new teen events and as
advisors on school fads and fashions.
Aviation Ordinance airman apprentice
Arnold J. Schouten of Patchogue has been
graduated from the Aviation Ordinance School
at the Naval Air Technical Training Center,
Jacksonville, Fla.
Staff sergeant Vincent Marrazzo of the U.S.
Air Force, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carmine Marrazzo
of Hedges Road, East Patchogue, is
expected home on leave from a 10-month tour
of duty in Thailand. He has been in the service
nine years and has earned the Air Medal for
meritorious achievement while participating in
aerial flight missions.
Gary D. Schneider, son of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour
Schneider of Durkee Lane, has received
his Bachelor of Business Administration
degree from the University of Miami, Coral
Gables, Fla.
Returning home from a two-week vacation
Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Demarest
of Bieselin Road, Bellport, who visited Honolulu,
San Francisco and Las Vegas. A highlight of
the trip was a glimpse of the astronauts when
their mobile quarantine facility was taken off
the Hornet at Pearl Harbor.
Trissie Holland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Vincent Holland of South Howells Point Road,
celebrated her 10th birthday with a swim,
supper and slumber party for a group of her
friends on Sunday.
Miss Mary David, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Don David of Locust Road, Brookhaven, was
guest-of-honor at a luncheon party to celebrate
her 7th birthday last Tuesday with the following
children in attendance: Monica Miller,
Pamela Schairer, Arieanne Van Vliet, Robin
DeNicola, Lincoln Quappe, and her two sisters,
Darcy and Susan.
Amid bridal decorations on a stairway, Mr.
and Mrs. Patrick J. Duffy paused a moment
after their wedding ceremony Saturday in Our
Lady of the Snow R.C. Church, Blue Point, for
a special photo. They will reside in New York
City following their two-week wedding trip to
Bermuda. Mrs. Duffy is the former Miss Eileen
Catherine Dugan of Blue Point.
Steven, Bradley, Jane and Elizabeth Hildreth
have been visiting their grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. Budd Hildreth of Namkee Road while
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hildreth of
Garden City, have been on a three-week tour
of Europe.

John W. Valentine, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Valentine of Jayne Avenue, will
leave Sept. 10 for Besancon, France, near
the Swiss border, where he will spend
the fall semester of his collegiate junior
year studying the French judicial system
and the French language. He will be participating
in the independent program
sponsored by Union College, Schenectady, N.Y.
Miss Lorraine Swan, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Matthew Swan of South Summit
Avenue, attended the Grand National
Twirling Competition at Houston, Texas
last week with the Central Islip Senior
Small Twirling Team. The team took first
place at the meet and won a plaque. Miss
Swan took third place in her age group
in strutting, and in the divisionals placed
seventh. She was awarded two medals.
John Ray Lombardi, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Lombardi of Swan Lake Drive,
will represent Cornell University at the
11th Management Training Seminar of the
Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Aug. 23-28
at Ball State University, Muncie, Ind. A
senior majoring in mathematics, Mr. Lombardi
is president of his chapter of the
fraternity at Cornell.
The board of education of the Patchogue-
Medford Public Schools recently
honored school board members James
McPeak, Frank Scutari and David J.
Gottfried. Mr. McPeak and Mr. Gottfried
have retired as members of the board and
Mr. Scutari retains his board membership
but has declined to run again as board president.
Mr. and Mrs. Edmund S. Walther were
married at 3 p.m. June 29 in St. Francis de
Sales R.C. Church, Patchogue. The couple
held their reception at Land’s End, Sayville,
and are at home on Wilstan Avenue,
Patchogue. Mrs. Walther is the former
Miss Lois Cecelia Schwinge of Patchogue.
Enjoying their wedding reception at
the Brau Haus, Medford, were Mr. and
Mrs. Robert J. Coupe, who were married
Saturday in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C.
Church, Patchogue. Mr. Coupe and his
bride, the former Miss Francine Truglio
of Patchogue, will live in East Patchogue.
Peter A. Carlesimo, director of athletics
at Fordham University, has announced
that Michael Cantwell of East Patchogue
has been appointed assistant director
of sports information. Cantwell, 20, is a senior at Fordham.
FTG 3 Daniel Hertlein, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Hertlein of Country Club Road,
Bellport, arrived home last week on a
30-day leave. He and his brother, John,
flew to Spain on Aug. 5 for a few weeks’ vacation.
Ricky Lennox of Scotch Plains, N.J.,
and Phyllis Chisholm of Sanwood, N.J.,
are visiting their grandparents, Dr. and
Mrs. James Lennox of South Country
Road, for the week.
Last Wednesday the Paisleys celebrated
Susan and Joseph’s birthdays by traveling
for a picnic and a matinee performance
of “Hamlet” at the American Shakespeare
Festival Theatre at Stratford, Conn.

Avenue, celebrated her 2nd birthday Monday
with a party at her home. Attending
were 20 of the family’s relatives.
Mrs. Timothy P. Slattery, the former Miss
Nancy E. Schunk of Patchogue, writes from
her home in Norfolk, Va., that her husband,
Navy ensign Timothy P. Slattery, who
has been graduated from officer candidate
school at Newport, R.I., is now stationed at
the Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek.
A bridal shower for Miss Mary Ann Kentoffio,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Kentoffio of Log Road, was held Friday
evening at the Knights of Columbus Hall,
Patchogue, given her by her bridal party.
Miss Kentoffio’s aunt, Mrs. Angeline Andreano
of Patchogue, made and decorated the
shower cake, and Miss Kelly Ann Croce
of East Patchogue, junior bridesmaid, also
baked a cake for the party. The bride-tobe’s
fiancé, Specialist 4 James R. Donohue
of Patchogue, is serving in Vietnam until
October.

Monday afternoon for Miss Roxanne Schiatta,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Schiatta
of Nottingham Avenue. It was given by her
friends, 12 of whom were in attendance.
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Vendetti of Bay
Avenue announce the engagement of their
daughter, Eleanor, to Robert Foray, son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Foray of Maple Avenue.
Miss Vendetti is a teacher at Holbrook Road
Elementary School. Mr. Foray is beginning
his last year of studies at Brooklyn College
of Pharmacy.
Ensign Joseph Valentine Jr. of Patchogue,
who is stationed at Phu Bai, Vietnam with
the First Mobile Construction Battalion of
the Navy Sea Bees, is on a special assignment
to Saigon on an engineering project,
the construction of a public fountain and a
prison for civilian use.
A barbecue, sponsored by the VFW, East
Patchogue, was held recently at the Dunton
Avenue post of the VFW. Frank Drapal is the
present commander.
Raymond Ciccalese, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Eugene Ciccalese of Munsell Road, celebrated
his 6th birthday Aug. 12 at a supper held
in his honor.
Philippe Roe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Roe
of South Howells Point Road, Bellport, is
visiting for several weeks with his grandmother,
Mrs. Iver Mackay in Paris and touring
the south of France.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harrow and family
of Circuit Road drove to Esopus to visit their
son, Brother Donald Harrow, a Marist brother,
for the weekend.

Ohio, are visiting his parents, Mr. and

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley H. Rabin and children

Sunday from a 15-day trip to Spain, where
they toured the Madrid area and the Spanish
Riviera.
Mrs. Michael Cullen of Port Richey, Fla.,
is visiting her husband’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. James Cullen of Point Road. Corporal
Michael Cullen is at present the helicopter
crew chief aboard the carrier Guadalcanal.
Mr. and Mrs. George Mulderig and family
of Newark, Del., returned home Monday
after spending 10 days with Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Warner of Second Street. They
were here to attend the wedding of their
nephew, Nick Satterley, to Miss Mary Hanson
on Saturday afternoon.

Edward Bergin of Thornhedge Road, is
spending two weeks with her brother-in-law
and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Heins of
Hato Rey, Puerto Rico.

Taylor was Aug. 9, when they exchanged
nuptial vows in the United Methodist Church

Greek Cultural Center, Blue Point. Mr. Taylor
will be taking his bride, the former Miss
Dorothy L. Bonne of Bellport, to live in
Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he will be entering
his junior year at William Penn College.
Mr. and Mrs. William F. O’Brien of Park
Street, Patchogue, announce the engagement
of their daughter, Jill, to Bruce Mac-
Dougal, son of Mrs. Cornelius J. Schaefer of
South Country Road, Bellport, and the late
Robert B. MacDougal.

Brookhaven, have just returned from spending
three weeks with their grandparents, Mr.

son, Brian, have moved into their new home

Mr. and Mrs. John Ripp and children,

just returned from a two-week trip on board
their boat, Riptide, to Martha’s Vineyard,
Nantucket and Cape Cod.
A bon voyage party was given for Karen
and Kathy Springhorn, twin daughters of
Mr. and Mrs. John Springhorn of Namkee
Road, at the home of their grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Wesley Springhorn of Salt Meadow
Lane, Bayport, Friday night, prior to their
leaving Saturday for a year’s study abroad
in England.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sieminski Jr. were
united in marriage July 12 in Emanuel
Lutheran Church of Patchogue. Theirs was
a varied wedding trip, taking in Virginia
Beach, Colonial Williamsburg, Va., and
Washington, D.C. Mr. Sieminski and his
bride, the former Miss Betty Ann Rotermund
of Medford, are at home in Medford.

Miss Nancy Moorehead of Patchogue
was recently welcomed aboard the luxury
cruise ship Queen Elizabeth II by
the ship’s captain, William Warwick.
Miss Moorehead was the 25,000th passenger
to travel on the Cunard Line’s
ship. She is en route to Brussels, Belgium,
where she will teach.
Martin Howland of Washington Avenue
returned home Aug. 21 from a
vacation in Hawaii, spent with his son,
Army Specialist 4 Anthony Howland,
who was on a rest and recuperation
period from service in Vietnam. With
him was Sp. Howland’s fiancée, Miss
Diane Vecchio of Mastic Beach. The
young couple plans to be married Nov.
30, after which they will spend the seven
months left of Sp. Howland’s tour of
duty at the base of his reassignment.
On Sunday Miss Michele Davidow,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sanford
Davidow of Shore Road, will arrive at
Beaver College, Glenside, Pa., to take
part in a new-students orientation program.
Miss Davidow, a Patchogue High
School graduate, will begin her studies
at Beaver College Sept. 4.
The Fifth Precinct reported the theft
of a 1969 Chevelle from the showrooms
of Russo Chevrolet on East Main Street,
Patchogue, early Saturday morning.
In a swirl of lace, Mrs. Gary Alan Hollis
posed with her husband after their
marriage July 27 in St. Francis de Sales
R.C. Church, Patchogue. The couple
held their reception at the Knights of
Columbus Hall. The bride is the former
Miss Maureen Caroccia of Patchogue.
Willard H. Maginnes of Hewlett
Avenue, East Patchogue, has reached
the 25-year milestone of service with
Grumman Aerospace Corp. He joined
23 other Long Islanders on the service
honor roll during August, when he was
welcomed into the “Quarter Century
Club.” Maginnes, assigned to the wood
shop as a model maker, will be presented
an engraved watch in recognition of
his anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Caputo of Avenue
O, Brooklyn, formerly of Union Avenue,
East Patchogue, announce the engagement

David Linbrunner, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Ed Laviano of South Howells Point
Road, Bellport, won the international
championship at the Windmill International
Championship Races held at
the Fishing Bay Yacht Club in Deltaville,
Va., last weekend. Dean Ince of
Bellport was his crew. Alan and Nicky
Palevsky of Brookhaven placed sixth in
the series.
Flying home Saturday from a twoweek
visit with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Carr Jr., of Santa Rosa, Calif.,
were Mrs. John Villano of Bellport and
Mrs. Lawrence Carr Sr., of Patchogue,
and their grandchildren, Lisa and Larry
Carr, who were returning home after
visiting here for three weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. David Jacobus of Academy
Lane drove to Rockport, Mass.,
Friday to give a prenuptial dinner for
Mrs. Jacobus’ nephew, David W. Peele
and his bride-to-be, Rita N. Littlewood,
who were married the following day at
the Village Church in Annisquam, Mass.
Mr. and Mrs. James Barrie and daughter,
Cathy, of General McLean Drive
have returned home from a trip to Montreal
and the Mont Tremblant area of
Quebec, Canada. Highlights of the trip
were visiting Expo, viewing the scenic
Laurentian mountains and enjoying the
French cuisine.
Last Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. Robert
Love of Bellport Lane gave a watercolor
demonstration at her home for a
small group of women who are interested
in watercolor technique.

Gerard Street returned Saturday from
a week’s vacation at Newfound Lake, N.H.
Mr. and Mrs. Jan Oosting and daughter,
Marijke, of Old Stump Road,
Brookhaven, have just returned home
from a week of studying folk music
at the folk music camp, Long Pond on
Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod, Mass. Musicians
come from all over the country to
participate at this camp, which is part
of the Pinewoods Music Club of New York City.
Mr. and Mrs. George Densing and
children, Nancy and Jimmy, of Blue
Point, spent last week at their beach
house at Leja Beach. Larry Densing and
Miss Cheryl Bornscheuer of Bergen
Lane joined them for the weekend.
A transport pilot at Clark AB, the
Philippines, First Lieutenant Robert E.
Wolf of Center Moriches is a member of
the 1867th Facility Checking Squadron
that has earned the Air Force Outstanding
Unit award for the fifth consecutive year.
The wedding day of Mr. and Mrs.
Silvio Battelli was July 19, when their
marriage vows were exchanged in St.
Jude’s R.C. Church, Mastic Beach. Mr.
Battelli and his bride, the former Miss
Sharon Bateman of Shirley, held their
reception in Ragone’s Restaurant in Mastic.
