Mr. and Mrs. Andy Schiatta of Nottingham
Avenue and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Terry of
Waverly Avenue have just returned from a
weekend in Detroit, Mich., where they had
gone to celebrate the 25th wedding anniversary
of Mr. Schiatta’s brother and sister-inlaw
and Mrs. Terry’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and
Mrs. Martin Messinger.
Mrs. Elinore H. Schmidt, president, Mrs.
Kathryn Dowling, second vice president, and
Mrs. Minnie Giuri, past president of the Pilot
Club of Patchogue, were in New York Sunday
to attend a dinner in Peter Cooper Village
by the Pilot Club of New York.
William A. Marx was the guest of honor at
a welcome home party for 40 guests, given
him by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August
Marx of Cedar Avenue, at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Whidden in North Patchogue.
Having just received his separation from the
Army following a year’s tour of duty in Vietnam,
Mr. Marx is making his home on West
Avenue with his wife, the former Miss Judy
Minardi, and their infant daughter, Kelly.
A son, Louis Anthony III, weighing 12
pounds, 13 ounces, was born Saturday in
Brookhaven Memorial Hospital to Mr. and
Mrs. Louis DeFazio Jr., son and daughter-inlaw
of Mr. and Mrs. Louis DeFazio of North
Prospect Avenue. The baby’s arrival marked
the birthday of his great-grandmother, Mrs.
George Weeks of Kennedy Avenue, Blue
Point, as well as her 55th wedding anniversary.
Leaving St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Patchogue,
after their wedding ceremony Aug.
23 were Mr. and Mrs. James Scaglione. Both
the bride, the former Miss Jacqueline Meyer
of Patchogue, and the bridegroom are attending
Utah State University and are residing
in Logan, Utah. After their reception at the
Wagon Wheel, Port Jefferson Station, they
went on their wedding trip to New York City
and Washington, D.C.
Robert S. Bosch, son of Mrs. Anna Bosch
of Avery Avenue and the late Stephen Bosch,
has joined the Peace Corps for two years. He
is teaching science in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
A graduate of Stony Brook University,
he was a science teacher in James Wilson
Young High School, Bayport, last year.
Service in Vietnam is being experienced by
Pvt. 1/c Robert J. Keller of Patchogue. He is
a dog handler with the Thirty-Third Infantry,
PSD.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Donnelly of Taylor
Avenue, East Patchogue, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Linda Carol,
to Robert R. Chieffo, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Chieffo of Westhampton Beach. A
December wedding is planned.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond E. Cutter and son,
Christian, of Ethel Street, East Patchogue,
motored to Framingham, Mass., last week to
visit Mr. and Mrs. Larry J. Lard and children,
formerly of East Patchogue. On Saturday, the
wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Lard
was celebrated with a dinner at Fisherman’s
Grotto in Boston.
A weekend at the Glens Falls House,
Round Top, N.Y., was enjoyed by the following
couples: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Temple of
Munsell Road, Mr. and Mrs. Chet Kane, Mr.
and Mrs. Ronald Saxton, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Fuoco, all of Patchogue, and Mr. and Mrs.
Mike Leonardi of Munsell Road, one of the
sponsors of Bondi’s tavern, a softball team
that the participating men play for.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Quinn and their three
children have returned to Bellport after living
for a couple of years in Glen Ellyn, Ill. They
are at home on North Howells Point Road.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Fox and family, who
occupied the Quinns’ house while they lived
in Illinois, have moved to Tallahassee, Fla.
The following Boy Scouts of Troop 28
were on Catholic Retreat at Camp Molloy
in Mattituck over the weekend: Keith
Lockwood, Robert Kropp, Anthony Diecidue,
Michael Butler, Mark Cummings, Eric
Rotzinger and Kurt Rotzinger.
Patricia Clifford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Cornelius Clifford of Bieselin Road, celebrated
her 6th birthday with a party last Thursday
afternoon. Attending were Julie Tuthill,
Karen Cardamone, Susan Maccabee, Joanne
Eliowitz, Thomas Marinelli, David Barber,
Scott Igoe, Timmy and Tommy Schuman,
Martin Fassman, Frank Aragona and Patricia’s
sisters, Cecelia and Donna.
Mr. and Mrs. John F. Rich of Bay Road,
Brookhaven, announce the engagement of
their daughter, Beth, to Douglas Haviland,
formerly of Bellport. Miss Rich is finishing
her nursing training and will graduate in
January. Mr. Haviland is completing his fouryear
enlistment in the Navy and is stationed
in Pennsylvania.
Mr. and Mrs. George H. Huber of Park Avenue,
Blue Point, have announced the engagement
of their daughter, Terry H. Huber, to
Pater Lang, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick
Lang of Namkee Road, Blue Point. Miss
Huber is a 1967 graduate of James Wilson
Young High School and is now attending
Dowling College in Oakdale, where she is
majoring in elementary education. Mr. Lang,
also a graduate of James Wilson Young H.S.,
is in his senior year at Dowling College,
where he is a chemistry major. No date has
been set for the wedding.

10 A returnee from Vietnam is Marine
Captain Richard D. Lane, formerly of
Patchogue, now stationed at Albany, Ga.
An attorney, he has recently been sworn
in as a judge.
Beginning his training at Aviation Officer
Candidate School at the Naval Air
Station, Pensacola, Fla., is Robert Harris
of Patchogue. He is receiving 11 weeks
of instruction, completion of which will
earn him a commission as ensign.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Puma of Roslyn
Court, Patchogue, have announced the
engagement of their daughter, Ida, to
John Bach of Lindenhurst. Miss Puma
is a 1967 graduate of Patchogue High
School. Mr. Bach, a former resident of
Brooklyn, graduated from schools there.
Miss Puma is employed at the Brookhaven
Town Building Department. Mr. Bach
is a district manager of The Suffolk Sun.
No date has been set for the wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. John Pokorny of South
Brewster Lane, Bellport, attended the
Army-Texas A&M football game at West
Point with two other couples on Saturday afternoon.
A number of Bellport families and
their guests rendezvoused by boat at
Great Gun Beach, Center Moriches, over
the weekend. Among them were Dr. and
Mrs. Robert Love, Mr. and Mrs. Peter
Paige, Mr. and Mrs. W. Dorsey Smith, Mr.
and Mrs. George Roeser, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Lyons, Peter Ranken and Ronald Moore.
Miss Susan Demarest, a freshman at
the State University at Buffalo, spent the
weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Calvin Demarest of Bieselin Road.
The sixth-grade class in ballroom
dancing taught by Mrs. Edward der
Mateosian started its fall session Fridaynight.
Club 62 had its first fall meeting in
the Bellport United Methodist Church
Tuesday. After a covered dish luncheon,
Robert Brown showed movies of his
recent trip to Europe.
Visiting Mr. and Mrs. David Rahm of
Bell Street is her mother, Mrs. Thomas
Winchester, who arrived Saturday for a
several weeks’ visit.
Aileen Reilly and Susan Long spent
the weekend at the State University at
Plattsburgh, where they were the guests
of Susan’s older sister, Margaret.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Warburton of
Bieselin Road spent a few days last week
at Lake Placid.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Wruck of Stillwood
Road are entertaining Mrs. Wruck’s
mother, Mrs. Lillian Powers, of Chicago,
Ill., for two weeks.
Miss Nancy Butler of Blue Point, who
recently returned from Brazil, where she
was engaged in missionary work as a
member of the Wycliffe Bible Translators
Association, will be honored with a
welcome home covered dish supper at
the Blue Point Baptist Church Oct. 17.
Nancy Brunquell, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. George Brunquell of Paumanake
Road, celebrated her 10th birthday on
Oct. 3 with a family party.
Debbie Lee Olsen, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. John Olsen of Weeks Street, had
a gigantic sleepover party on her 12th
birthday, Sept. 26. Thirty girls attended.

A fall freshman at Bridgewater College,
Bridgewater, Va., is James L. Julian, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Julian of Park Street, Patchogue.
For a cleaner village, the Patchogue post
of the American Legion this week presented
two litter baskets, which have been placed
at Patchogue’s Four Corners. On hand to
accept the gift from post commander Donald
Baker were mayor Robert T. Waldbauer and
village Public Works superintendent John Belzak.
Graduated from the Electrician’s Mate
School at the Coast Guard Training Center,
Governors Island, is fireman Electrician’s
Mate Charles S. Katz, son of Mrs. Julia Katz of Patchogue.
His first solo flight was made recently
by Naval Aviation Officer candidate Ralph
Pierno, son of Mr. and Mrs. Angelo R. Pierno
of Patchogue. The flight was made after five
months of intensive training. He will continue
more advanced phases of flight training
for about 13 months prior to receiving his pilot’s wings.
Newly promoted is Lance Corporal
Michael P. Hurley, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Raymond Hurley of Patchogue. L/Cpl. Hurley
is serving in Vietnam with C Company,
9th Engineers Battalion of the First Marine Division.
Mixing business and pleasure were Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Lenz of East Patchogue,
who enjoyed all the pleasures of leisure
island living at the Castle Harbour Beach
and Golf Club on the isle of Bermuda. The
couple attended a weeklong convention of
the Home Life Insurance Company.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Backes and children
Joe, Pam and Jayme, of Hedges Road, have
recently returned home after a motor trip to
Washington, D.C. They visited the Washington
Monument, Smithsonian Institute and
Arlington National Cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Schaefer of Country
Club Road, Bellport, have returned home
from vacation. They spent three weeks visiting
Mrs. Schaefer’s mother, Mrs. Nora Collier,
and stopped in Washington, D.C. to see
their son, Charles, who is in the Air Force
and working in the Pentagon. They also
visited their son, John, in Baltimore, Md. and
celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with him.
The Couples Club of the Bellport United
Methodist Church will go on a hayride at the
Suffolk County Park, Southaven, tomorrow
night. Host couples will be Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Reiss and Mr. and Mrs. Santo DiNaro.
Joseph Cardamone was the winner of the
Bellport Men’s Golf Championship for 1969.
He played Nelson Raimondo of Kings Park
in a 36-hole match tournament that went to
the 37th hole, when Joe’s 20-foot putt set him ahead for the win.
Mr. and Mrs. August Waldron of North
Brewster Lane and their family drove to
Longhorne, Pa., Sunday to watch the Longhorne Stock Car races.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Albanese of the Bronx
recently visited their son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Eliowitz of Bieselin Road.
Mr. and Mrs. Michael DeSant and daughter,
Michaelyn, of Atlantic Avenue, Blue
Point, motored to Cobleskill, N.Y. for the
Columbus Day weekend.
Among the first 10,000 troops withdrawn
from Vietnam in July was Army Specialist
4/c Peter Minardi of Blue Point. He served
with the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam for
11 months. He will serve his remaining six
months of duty at the War College, Carlisle
Barracks, Pa. Specialist 4/c Minardi is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Minardi of Montauk
Highway. He is a 1966 graduate of Bayport
High School and was inducted into the Army in April 1968.
Kelli Searles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Allen Searles of Syracuse Avenue, Medford,
celebrated her 7th birthday on Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. S. Ruggles celebrated their
18th wedding anniversary Oct. 6.
Mr. and Mrs. D. Clasen celebrated their
14th wedding anniversary Oct. 8.
Mr. and Mrs. F.J. Mistler of Ohio Avenue
announce the engagement of their daughter,
Jo Ann, to Harold L. Kaminski, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Stephen Kaminski Sr., of Montauk
Highway, East Moriches. The bride to
be, a graduate of Patchogue High School,
is employed in the tax assessor’s office
in Patchogue. The prospective groom is a
graduate of Center Moriches High School
and served with the U.S. Army for two years
in Germany. He is employed at Park Dodge
in Patchogue. No date has been set for the wedding.

Carol Lynn Merlo of Vernon Street
has successfully completed the latest
examination in physiotherapy.
Miss Marcia C. McDermott of Carman
Street has enrolled in the University of
Notre Dame Law School’s three-year
program leading to a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.
Miss Donna Schultz, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Schultz of
Cedar Avenue, is a member of the fall
pledge class of the Crane Department
of Music’s Gamma Delta chapter of
Sigma Alpha Iota. Miss Schultz, a senior
voice major in the Crane Department at
the State University College, Potsdam,
plans to continue her graduate studies
in the field of opera theater.
Mr. and Mrs. Neil Van Ginhoven of
Grenville Avenue announce the arrival
of their daughter, Debra Ann, born Oct.
13 at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital,
East Patchogue. The baby weighed 9
pounds, 8 ounces at birth.
The Harlem Wizards are coming to
Patchogue. New York’s fantastic basketball
team will be performing at the
Bay Avenue School’s gymnasium Nov. 1
at 8 p.m. against the Patchogue faculty.
Don Campbell will coach the faculty
team, who will have such players as
Henry Schwab, Don Devereaux, Vinnie
DeCerbo, Tom Julian, Dick Klesius, Ray
Fell and Robin Gardner. Tickets cost
$1.50 per person and are available at
Albert’s Men’s Store and South Ocean
Avenue Junior High.
Recently wed are Airman and Mrs.
Arthur C. Finken Jr., at a ceremony at
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church,
Patchogue. The bride is the former Miss
Patricia Ann Kahrs of Patchogue. Airman
Finken is stationed at Mather Air
Force Base, Calif., and he and his bride
are residing in Rancho Cordova, Calif.
Presently serving as a security policeman
with the 632nd Combat Group at
Binh Thui AB, Vietnam, is Airman 1/c
Thomas Maher, whose wife, Patricia,
of Patchogue is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Schumpf of Patchogue.
Aboard the Navy Hospital ship USS
Sanctuary off the coast of Vietnam is
hospital corpsman 1/c Robert J. Collinson,
USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Collinson
of Smith Street, Patchogue. The
ship was recently awarded the Navy
Unit Commendation for exceptionally
meritorious service as a hospital ship
for American and allied forces in Vietnam.
Mr. and Mrs. Verne W. Critz of East
Patchogue celebrated their 25th wedding
anniversary Oct. 12. They renewed
their wedding vows at Mary Immaculate
R.C. Church, Bellport, where they
were married. An informal open house
for friends and relatives followed and
many unexpected guests did turn up for the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Roe of South
Howells Point Road and Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Bushfield of Bellport Lane drove
to Massachusetts for the weekend. They
stayed at East Falmouth, on the Cape.
Bill and Chris Mirabelli, sons of Mr.

Park Road, attended homecoming
weekend at Clemson University, Clemson,
S.C., where their brother, Anthony
Jr., is in his senior year.

is the former Miss Marilyn Rant of

University and are teaching school in

Airman Robert R. Maggio Jr., son of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Maggio Sr., of
Beaver Brook Drive, Brookhaven, has
returned to Lowry AFB, Denver, Colo.,
after spending a week’s leave with his
parents. On his return, Airman Maggio
will attend Still Camera Photo Specialist
Technical Training School for 18 weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. George Bennett III
reflected their happiness following
their marriage ceremony recently in St.
Sylvester’s R.C. Church. Medford. The
bride, the former Miss Patricia A. Parrett
of Medford, is a former secretary in
the Patchogue-Medford School System.
The bridegroom is employed by the
New York Telephone Company. They
are residing in North Patchogue.

The Patchogue Jaycees and the Patchogue
Recreation Department co-sponsored
a Bicycle Safety Rodeo last Sunday
at the Church Street parking area. The
safety rodeo included a bicycle inspection
and a skills test. Dennis Cook took first
place and Joe Voght second place. Making
the presentations were superintendent of
recreation John J. Gray Jr., president of
the Jaycees Walter Ladick and Jaycees
member Whitey Leavandosky.
Specialist 5 Paul Delaney Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Delaney of North Ocean
Avenue, arrived home Friday on a 30-day
leave of absence, after a year of service in
Vietnam. He was awarded the Army Commendation
Medal and the Bronze Star with
Oak Leaf Cluster. On his return to duty, he
will be stationed in Germany.
Miss Sally Ann LaVeglia of Harris Street,
North Patchogue, was the guest of honor
at a surprise bridal shower Oct. 9, given by
her maid of honor, Miss Nancy Peck. Miss
LaVeglia opened her many gifts beneath
a gaily-decorated bridal shower umbrella.
She will be married Sunday at Mt. Carmel
R.C. Church to Robert Prybyzerski.
Clifford Bennett, principal of the South
Ocean Avenue Middle School, presented
a check for $50 to student representatives
Joanne Pausewang and Tad Waldbauer,
officers of the school’s student council.
The check was awarded by the Lions Club
for the South Ocean School’s float, which
tied for fourth-place honors in the Lions
Club Fourth of July Parade in Patchogue.
Mrs. Nancy Donato of Lake Street, Patchogue,
announces the engagement of her
daughter, Rose, to Gerald Ventieri, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Salvatore Ventieri of Washington
Avenue, Patchogue. Miss Donato
is a senior in Patchogue High School. Mr.
Ventieri is a land surveyor in Patchogue.
No plans have been made for the wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Valenti of Terrell
Street, Patchogue, announce the engagement
of their daughter, Judy, to Ronald
Satterley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Satterley
of Second Street, Bellport. Miss Valenti
is a 1966 graduate of Patchogue High
School. She is employed by Swan Bakery
of East Patchogue. Mr. Satterley graduated
from Bellport High School in 1964. He is
in the employ of Reynolds electricians, Bellport.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tuzza and children
of Woodacres Road, East Patchogue, entertained
Mr. and Mrs. Nino Rubini of George
Street at a family dinner Saturday in honor
of Mrs. Rubini’s birthday.
Elaine Warner, 6-year-old daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Warner of Second
Street, Bellport, slipped and fell last Thursday,
fracturing her leg. She will remain in
Brookhaven Memorial Hospital for treatment
for the next few weeks.
Anne Bookless, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John Bookless of Maple Street, entertained
a group of friends at a Halloween party Friday
night. The boys and girls divided into
teams and had a card hunt.
Miss Leslie Hallock has returned to
George Washington University in Washington,
D.C. after spending the weekend with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hallock of Pearl Street.
Kathy Weiler, daughter of Mrs. Marie
Weiler of Bayview Avenue, Blue Point, was
crowned homecoming queen at the football
game held last Saturday at the James
Wilson Young High School.
