Miss Mary Beth Brennan, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Brennan of
Grove Avenue, Patchogue, received her
Mount Saint Mary College class ring at
a ceremony held at the Meadowbrook
Lodge, Newburgh, N.Y., Feb. 7.
The award of a $300 scholarship has
been given to Miss Catherine Van Doran,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Van
Doran of Grove Avenue, for the 1970-71
academic year at the State University
Agricultural and Technical College at
Delhi, N.Y. Following her graduation
from Patchogue High School in June,
she will enroll in the business division of the college.
Charles Maler, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Maler of Kane Avenue, has been
named to the Dean’s Honor Roll at the
University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fla.
He is a junior majoring in art education.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leon of Patchogue
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Carole, to Dr. T. Owen Carroll,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter W. Carroll of
Castro Valley, Calif. Miss Leon is an
English teacher in the Patchogue High
School. Dr. Carroll is a professor at the
State University in Stony Brook. A June
wedding is planned.
Navy hospitalman apprentice Thomas
Flis of Patchogue has graduated from the
14-week Hospital Corps School at Great Lakes, Ill.
Donald S. Atkins, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Atkins of Roe Avenue,
East Patchogue, has been accepted for
admission in September to the State
University Agricultural and Technical
College, Delhi, N.Y. A June graduate of
Patchogue High School, he will study
business technology.
Miss Noreen M. Malkiewicz, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Malkiewicz of Spruce
Street, East Patchogue, was graduated
from the Mid-Suffolk School for Practical
Nurses Jan. 25. She will be employed at
the Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, East Patchogue.
Miss Cheryl Tenzyk, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Michael Tenzyk of Munsell
Road, celebrated her 6th birthday Sunday
at a family celebration in her honor.
Mr. and Mrs. John Pokorny and family
of South Brewster Lane, Bellport, and
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Petretti and family
of Brookhaven spent last week skiing at Gore Mountain.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hoffmann of Bellport
Lane have returned from a two-week
cruise aboard the liner Bremen to the
Caribbean and South America, where
they visited eight ports. On the return
voyage, Mrs. Hoffmann won the ship’s
pool by guessing the exact time the pilot
boarded the ship at Ambrose Light.
Peter Suydam, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Lispenard Suydam of Bellport Lane, is
an exchange student at the University of
Granada, Granada, Spain, for the second
semester. He is a sophomore at Colgate University.
Four families from Bellport enjoyed
a skiing week at Mont Sutton, Quebec,
Canada, during the school holiday: the
William Fowlers, the Donald Borgs, the
Donald MacKenzies and the David Rahms.
The members of the Hook and
Ladder Company of the Bellport Fire
Department entertained their wives at
a steak dinner at the firehouse Saturday
night. Augie Waldron was the chef.
Karen Pfeifle, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Pfeifle of Atlantic Avenue,
Blue Point, entertained 24 of her friends
at Felice’s restaurant in Patchogue
Friday afternoon in celebration of her 10th birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Carpenter of
Opa-Locka, Fla., formerly of Bayport,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Nora Jane, to Terry Lee
Fedelem, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J.
Fedelem of Blue Point. Miss Carpenter,
a 1967 graduate of James Wilson Young
High School, is attending Miami Dade
Junior College, enrolled in the School
of Secretarial Sciences and is employed
by an insurance company in Miami. Mr.
Fedelem, also a 1967 graduate of James
Wilson Young High School, is majoring
in biology at the University of Miami,
Fla. He will graduate in June 1971. No
date has been set for the wedding.

Highlight of the day for Miss Dolores
Fernandez, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Adolph Fernandez of South Prospect
Avenue, Patchogue, was the presentation to
her by her parents of a wristwatch in honor
of her 16th birthday recently. The gift was
made at a Sweet Sixteen party held at her
home for 50 guests.
Miss Priscilla Britnell, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Britnell of Rider
Avenue, who is a member of the advisory
board of the freshman class at Western
Connecticut State College, has been elected
recording secretary to the board for the
second semester. She is a French major
and the recipient of John Barrie Memorial
Scholarship, Patchogue High School Class of 1969.
Miss Mary Jo Zollo, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. A.J. Zollo of Log Road, is a member
of the 65-piece Wagner Band at Wagner
College, Staten Island. The band will go on
tour this spring.
Mrs. Mildred Carroll of Patchogue
announces the engagement of her daughter,
Diane, to Carl Joseph DeVito Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Joseph DeVito of Patchogue.
Miss Carroll is also the daughter of the late
John Carroll. A 1969 graduate of Patchogue
High School, Miss Carroll is in the employ
of the New York Telephone Company in
Patchogue. Mr. DeVito graduated from
Patchogue High School in 1965 and is selfemployed.
Miss Josephine Bermudez, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bermudez of North
Prospect Avenue, has been named to the
Dean’s List at Suffolk County Community
College, Selden. She is a freshman majoring
in elementary education.
Joseph A. Bianca, son of Mrs. Angelina
Bianca of Bianca Road, and the late Joseph
Bianca, a senior at the State University,
Oswego, N.Y., has been named to the Dean’s
List for the past semester. Majoring in
industrial arts, he resides in Oswego with
his wife, Kathleen, and their two children.
Co-workers, former students, family
and friends gathered at Lands End Friday
night for a testimonial dinner-dance
honoring Miss Jennie Lotito of Patchogue.
One hundred seventy people came to pay
tribute to the small, but dynamic woman
who devoted so many years to teaching.
Currently teaching seventh-grade reading
at Bellport Middle School, Miss Lotito has
taught in the East Patchogue School and
the Middle School for the past 27 years. She
plans to move to Cape Coral, Fla. when she retires.
Hearts in the bridal bouquet marked the
Valentine’s Day wedding of Mr. and Mrs.
Pasquale Cetrangola, who were united Feb.
14 in St. Joseph the Worker R.C. Church,
East Patchogue. The happy couple spent
their honeymoon in the Poconos. Mrs.
Cetrangola is the former Miss Sharon Lee
Vettel of Bellport.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Paige of Bellport Lane
spent five days last week skiing at Stratton
Mountain, Stratton, Vt.
Approximately 225 people enjoyed the
annual St. Patrick’s Day dance at the Mary
Immaculate R.C. Church auditorium
on Saturday night. Rollini’s Orchestra
furnished the music for dancing. Prizes
were awarded to Peter Quinn, basket of
cheer; Edward DePiazzy of Moriches,
cassette recorder; and Mrs. Richard Harrow,
30-cup electric percolator. A tasty buffet
was provided around 11 p.m. Mrs. Francis
Miller was in charge of the event.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Roberge and family
of George Court recently returned from a
week’s train trip to Los Angeles, Calif. They
were particularly impressed with the Santa
Fe line from Chicago to L.A.
Nicholas Munhofen, son of Mr. and Mrs.
N. Blair Munhofen of Beaver Dam Road,
Brookhaven, has been pledged to Lambda
Gamma Epsilon Fraternity at Otterbein
College, Westerville, Ohio.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Jurgens of Blue
Point Avenue, Blue Point, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Betty Jane,
to Stanley E. Gillette Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs.
Stanley E. Gillette of Gerritsen Avenue,
Bayport. Miss Jurgens is a senior at James
Wilson Young High School, Bayport, and
is employed by the Charlotte Shops in
Sayville. Mr. Gillette, a 1968 graduate of
James Wilson Young, is employed by the
South Shore Contracting and Dredging

Kenneth S. Filiano, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Leonard V. Filiano of North Summit Avenue,
Patchogue, has been awarded a scholarship
by the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music,
Winchester, Va. A senior at Seton Hall
High School, he will major in trumpet at
Shenandoah.
Home on a 30-day leave following a
13-month tour of duty in Korea is Sergeant
Peter W. Liander, who is the husband of the
former Miss Deborah Lynn Buttermore of
Patchogue. It is his first opportunity to get
acquainted with his 7-month-old daughter,
Christine. A radar specialist, the sergeant
will next be stationed at Fort Sill, Okla.
Bow-Wow the Clown is off to Baltimore
to entertain his fellow laugh-makers.
This Friday and Saturday, Clowns of
America, the Greatest Club On Earth, will
be holding its second annual convention.
The 600-member club will be coming from
all over the United States to meet up in
Baltimore. Frank Fridrich, professionally
known as Bow-Wow the Clown, of Cedar
Avenue, Patchogue, considers it quite an
honor to be one of only two clowns chosen
to perform at the Saturday night banquet
at the convention. His act will consist of
a 30-minute show, including his comedy
juggling, novelty balancing and magic.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Greco of Carman
Street, Patchogue, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Donna,
to Joseph Lapienski, son of Mrs. Joseph
Grignon of Coram and the late Joseph
Lapienski Sr. of Middle Island. Miss Greco
is a 1966 graduate of Patchogue High School
and of Mandl Medical Assistants School.
She is employed by Drs. Mulholland, Lo
Vece and Hill in Sayville. Mr. Lapienski, a
1965 graduate of Longwood High School,
has just completed service with the U.S.
Navy, including two 12-month tours of duty
in Vietnam. He is in the employ of the
Town of Brookhaven.
The Patchogue Fishing Club awarded
trophies at the club’s annual dinnerdance
March 7 at the 112 Lounge. The
following members received trophies:
Arthur Yarrington, the McGarvey Bowl;
James Belmonte Sr., the Kalivas Bowl and
Schaefer Award; George Dietz Sr. retained
possession of the Nicholas Yannacone
Memorial Trophy; Ronald Charif, the Past
President’s Trophy, and Alfred Gerle, the
August Dietz Memorial Trophy. Raffle
prize winners were Mrs. Alfred Gerle of
Patchogue, Charles Wolfson of Valley
Stream, Edward P. Costello of Patchogue
and Wilbur Moore of Patchogue.
Army Private Michael A. Perry of
Patchogue will spend the next two months
receiving basic training at the Army
Training Center, Armor, at Fort Knox,
Ky. On completion of the course, he will
receive an additional eight weeks of either
advanced instruction or on-the-job training
to qualify him in a specialized military
skill.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Temple of Munsell
Road, Mr. and Mrs. Al Maccabee of
Roseland Lane, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Emma

Last Thursday Richard Brouwer
celebrated his 8th birthday with a supper
party for a group of his friends. Those
present were Mark Havens, Timmy and
Robbie Hermus, Susan Regalmuto, Sheryl
Bassford, and his sister, Debra. Richard is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brouwer of
North Howells Point Road.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Taylor of Blue
Point Avenue, Blue Point, celebrated their
second wedding anniversary Monday
evening with an anniversary dinner. Mrs.
Taylor is the former Mildred Columbine of
Blue Point.

her home on Maple Avenue. Those present
were Mrs. Mamie Terrell, Mrs. Martin Quinlan,
Mrs. Josie Bowden, Mrs. Axel Anderson, Mrs. Martha
Blank, Norman Blank and the Misses Gloria
Bowden, Dorothy Quinlan and Kathleen Kilmer.
Louis Lotito, who recently enlisted in the
Navy, is now in training at Sampson. He is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Salvatore Lotito of
Wiggins Avenue.
The Misses Sybil Gardner and Elizabeth
Barber, students at the University of Vermont,
arrived Tuesday to spend the Easter
vacation with their parents, Dr. and Mrs.
Willets W. Gardner and Dr. and Mrs. L.J.
Barber of East Main Street.
Mr. and Mrs. Noble Chapman, who have
been spending the winter in Miami, Fla.,
have returned to their home on Carman
Street. They received word from their son,
Staff Sgt. Richard Chapman, that he is in
Germany.
Francis L. Coghlan, S 2/c, who has finished
his training at Sampson, is visiting his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coghlan of
Oak Street, before reporting at Davisville,
R.I., for further training with the Sea Bees.
Pvt. Robert S. Niebling, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John B. Niebling of Robert Street, received
the Bronze Star for bravely exposing himself
to fire in caring for wounded soldiers
in France.

Avenue reported to village police on Tuesday
the theft of a girl’s bicycle, painted
black and having no handle grips.
Richard Cohen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hank
H. Cohen of Bay Avenue, is home recuperating
from an appendectomy, and is
getting along nicely.
Miss Florence Wilhelmina Charpied, daughter
of Mrs. Agnes Charpied of Patchogue,
recently became the bride of Pfc. James
Woodrow Guy of Stony Point, N.C.
Miss Nellie Tryka of Riverhead recently
wed Austin E. Clowes of Patchogue.
Miss Estelle Baker of Carman Street, one
of the regular members of the undefeated
Patchogue USO Junior Hostesses basketball
team, was given a farewell dinner
Tuesday evening at Shaber’s restaurant.
Miss Baker, an active volunteer in the
Patchogue USO clubhouse since it was
opened, left yesterday with her mother for
Texas, where they will make their home.
She was presented with a gift by the team.
She was employed for the past few years
as secretary in the law office of Pelletreau
and Pelletreau.
Paul Bigelow, who passed the winter with
Mr. and Mrs. William Akin in Alton, Ill.,
has returned to his home on Thornhedge
Road, Bellport.
Capt. William Grasberger of the Army Signal
Corps, who has been in the South
Pacific area since before Pearl Harbor,
arrived at Camp Upton Friday and spent
the weekend with his cousin, Joseph Perino
and family of Howell Point Road, Bellport.
Edward G. Sperry has rented the George
Kenneth Morgan place on Browns Lane for a
year. The Morgans will go to Palm Beach,
Fla., for a few weeks and then to their
lodge in the Adirondacks.
Eighty persons attended the annual
dinner of the Great South Bay Scooter
club at the Bellport Hotel Saturday night.
Commodore Millard Smith of Patchogue

commodore and Theodore Everitt, secretary
and treasurer. Lee Colson of Sayville is past
commodore and Gilbert Clark of Bay Shore

race committee.
The beautiful Langley estate, between
South Country Road and the bay, has been
sold to the Island Coal and Lumber Company
of Medford, and the large house is
being taken down.
Sgt. Joseph Hanna is having a 10-day furlough
from Avon Park Airfield, Fla.
The Griffing family has moved from
the Nesbit house on Railroad Avenue,
Brookhaven, to Patchogue.
Mrs. T.N. Palmer of Brooklyn is spending
some time with her mother, Mrs. M.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Koch of Yaphank
announce the engagement of their daughter,
Miss Dorothy Koch, to Eugene Kiernan,
S 1/c, USNR, now on active duty in the
Atlantic. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
