A promotion to his present rank has
been given First Lieutenant Jerry R. Herman
of Patchogue, who recently had a
30-day furlough at home before leaving
for service in Vietnam.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kahrs of Patchogue
announce the engagement of
their daughter, Elizabeth Frances, to John
Thomas Train, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Bracciale, also of Patchogue. Miss Kahrs
is a senior at Patchogue High School.
She is employed part-time at the Peoples
National Bank and Floyd’s Discount
store in Patchogue. Fireman Train of the
U.S. Navy is now attending electrician’s
school in the Great Neck Naval Training
Center, Ill. No date has been set for the wedding.
A shuffleboard tournament was
played recently between the Patchogue
Moose and the Port Jefferson Moose at
the Patchogue Moose Lodge. The trophy
was won by the Patchogue team led by
Richard Schmohl of Clinton Street, East Patchogue.
Edward Marinelli of Bellport celebrated
his 9th birthday Friday afternoon with a
party. His guests were Geoffrey Corn, Sam
Allan, Michael Martin, Michael Tenzyk, Timmy
and Tommy Schuman, and his brothers,
Johnny and Tommy. Edward is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Marinelli of Bieselin Road.
Mr. and Mrs. William Graves and family
of South Howells Point Road returned
last week from a five-day trip to Roanoke,
Va., to attend the wedding of their nephew,
William Ince, to Miss Dandridge Logan.
Miss Sally Baier and Miss Barbara Schlosser
are spending their spring vacation as
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Baier at
their home in Atlanta, Ga.
At Lackland AFB, Texas, Airman Paul
A. Schait of Brookhaven has completed
basic training. He will go to Sheppard
AFB, Texas, for training in the transportation field.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Schultz and son,
Kenneth, of Cedar Avenue, Patchogue,
and Mr. and Mrs. H. Joseph Backes of Bellport
have returned from a Travel Trailer
vacation trip to Florida. They all visited
their newly bought property, ten miles
east of Silver Springs, located in Ocala
National Forest.
Miss Michele Malafronte, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Michael Malafronte of Truberg
Avenue, has been accepted as a degree
candidate in the business management
program of Northampton Junior College,
Northampton, Mass. She is a senior
at Patchogue High School.
A scholarship offered by Southampton
College of Long Island University
has been accepted by Lambros Paraschos,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Elias Paraschos of
Wiggins Avenue for the fall semester. He
plans to major in biology.
Mrs. Thomas Maher, the former Miss
Pat Schumpf of Schoenfeld Boulevard,
recently returned from Honolulu,
Hawaii, where she joined her husband,
Sergeant Thomas Maher, who was there
on a six-day rest and recreation period
from his duties at the Binh Thuy AFB,
Vietnam. He will return home in August.
Mr. and Mrs. James Calfa of Westhampton
Beach, formerly of Patchogue,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Sherry, to Larry Wagner, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Wagner of Patchogue.
Miss Calfa, a graduate of Patchogue
High School, is now employed
as a secretary at Stony Brook University.
Mr. Wagner, also a graduate of Patchogue
High School, has completed his
tour of duty with the U.S. Army. A fall
wedding is planned.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ebersole and children,
Ann and David, of General McLean
Drive, Bellport, spent last week vacationing
in Virginia. They visited Lynchburg,
Natural Bridge and Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Robert Gibbs, daughter, Stephanie,
and son, Scott, of Circuit Road spent last
week with her brother-in-law and sister,
Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Hill of Indian Harbor
Beach, Fla.
Saturday night Mr. and Mrs. John Lancaster
of Gerard Street had a cooperative
dinner party at their home before the
South Country Yacht Club dance, which
was held at Christ Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Swettman of Myrtle
Avenue, East Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter, Dawn
Fayette, to Dennis Emil Moravec, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Emil F. Moravec of Kennedy
Avenue, Blue Point. Miss Swettman
attended Patchogue High School and Suffolk
County Community College, Selden.
Mr. Moravec is a 1969 graduate of James
Wilson Young High School, Bayport. An
August wedding is planned.

Miss Sheralyn Scotto, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Arthur Scotto of Gillette
Avenue, Patchogue, has been named to
the Dean’s List for the fall semester at
Marymount College, Tarrytown, N.Y.
She is a junior majoring in art.
Miss Linda Milian of Sheldon Avenue
has been selected for membership in
the State University College at Oneonta’s
chapter of Kappa Delta Pi national
education honor society. A graduate of
Patchogue High School, Miss Milian is
a junior and an elementary education major.
Enjoying their recent reception at
the Pine Grove Inn, East Patchogue,
were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Warren Jackson,
who were married in March in
St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church, Patchogue.
The bride is the former Miss
Cynthia Louise Sbani of Patchogue. Their
home is in Patchogue.
Dartmouth senior DeWitt Davies has
added another record to his standing
list of impressive honors he has
captured in his varsity career at the
college. Davies set a record of 197 feet,
2½ inches in the hammer throw, taking
first place in an Ivy League meet
against Harvard University. A Patchogue
High School graduate, Davies
will lead the Dartmouth contingent to
the NCAA championships June 18-20.
Construction work on the new
two-story addition to Brookhaven
Memorial Hospital has advanced to
the point where interior finishing is
about to begin. When completed, the
hospital will serve the community
with 70 additional acute care beds.
Mr. and Mrs. John Wallen and family
of South Howells Point Road, Bellport,
visited Colonial Williamsburg, Va.,
Jamestown and the surrounding area
for several days last week.
Miss Elizabeth Winsche arrived home
from Boston University for a few
weeks visit with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Warren Winsche of Shore Road.
Junior Girl Scout Troop 1367, Bellport,
spent a camping weekend at
Camp Wunnegin, Kings Park. They
were accompanied by their leaders,
Mrs. Aldo Barbero and Mrs. Robert Emma,
and two scout mothers, Mrs. Walter
Bergskaug and Mrs. William Florio.
Lt. Tom Shreeve, son of Dr. and Mrs.
Walton Shreeve of South Howells Point
Road, is home on two weeks’ leave
before leaving for duty in the Western
Pacific area. His brother, James, was
home from Brown University for the weekend.
Mrs. Kathleen Fucci of Brookhaven
announces the engagement of her
daughter, Dale, to Michael Derby, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Derby of East
Patchogue. Miss Fucci and Mr. Derby
are both graduates of Bellport High
School. An April wedding is planned.

At Concordia College, Bronxville,
N.Y., Miss Maureen Linehan, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John Linehan
of Jayne Avenue, Patchogue, has
been voted by her classmates the
best all-around female student, the
most popular and the most likely to succeed.
A degree in speech therapy will
be received in June by Miss Joy
Heyman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lawrence Heyman of Howard Street,
from Emerson College, Boston, Mass.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Russo of Patchogue
have announced the engagement
of their daughter, Roberta, to
James Newham, son of Mr. and Mrs.
James R. Newham of Patchogue.
Miss Russo, a 1969 graduate of Patchogue
High School, is a student at
the Catholic Medical Center School
of Nursing, Jamaica, Queens. Mr.
Newham is an aviation storekeeper
3/c, U.S. Navy, stationed aboard the
USS New Orleans. He has just completed
a nine-month deployment in Vietnam.
Mr. and Mrs. James Barrie of General
McLean Drive, Bellport, attended
the Broadway musical comedy,
“Company,” Friday evening. An added
surprise to the evening was the
appearance at the performance of
Ari and Jackie Onassis and Lee and Prince Radziwill.
Mrs. Henry M. Halsted Jr. of South
Country Road spent the weekend
visiting her son and daughter-inlaw,
Mr. and Mrs. Tyler Halsted in South Salem.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leon of South
Ocean Avenue, Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Diane Marie, to Frederick L. Stella, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stella of
New Jersey Avenue, Bellport. Miss
Leon is a nursing student at Suffolk
County Community College, Selden,
where Mr. Stella is a police science
student. No date has been set for the wedding.
Airman 1/c Robert R. Maggio Jr.
of Brookhaven has been graduated
from still photography technical
school at Lowry AFB, Denver, Colo.
He is now stationed at Wright-Patterson
AFB, Dayton, Ohio.
Saturday Mrs. Kathy Stevens gave a
surprise party for her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Alfred Swezey of Blue Point.
They will celebrate their 25th wedding
anniversary soon. There were
about 60 close friends and relatives
to wish them well that night.
