A 38th wedding anniversary was celebrated
by Fred and Lucille Dobson of
Schroeder Lane, Patchogue, at a surprise
party given them Sunday by their son-inlaw
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George
Abrams of Cedar Avenue. A feature of
the party was the wedding cake, whose
miniature cameraman and his bride symbolized
Mr. Dobson’s former profession as a photographer.
Miss Lynda Rowland was guest of
honor at a bridal shower Saturday evening
at the Suffolk Boat Club, given by her
attendants, the Misses Linda Zebrowski,
Mary Benanti, Chris Hudak, Pam and
Dodie Smith and Kim Porter. About
60 relatives and friends were present.
Miss Rowland will be married June 14 to
Thomas Benanti in St. Francis de Sales
R.C. Church, Patchogue.
Lorraine Swan, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Matthew Swan of Patchogue, recently
was selected Sr. Miss New York State
of Baton Twirling at the
U.S. Twirling Pageant held
in Central Islip. The contest
was judged on personality,
beauty, talent and twirling
ability. She also won the talent award.
Miss Wendlyn Smith,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Rowland F. Smith of Station
Road, Bellport, has returned
home after completing her
freshman year at the State
University of New York at Fredonia.
James Vaughan has
returned home after completing
his two years of duty
in the United States Army.
He is currently working for
the Brookhaven Town Parks Department.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Stonebridge of General
McLean Drive entertained at
a dinner party for their son,
Mark, and a few friends in
celebration of his 10th birthday.
Assignment to the new
Naval facility aboard Selfridge
AFB at Detroit, St. Clemens,
Mich., has been given
aviation machinist’s mate 3/c
Kevin J. Kane of Bellport.
He is assigned to the aircraft
maintenance department.
Airman Drew Bevis, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Milton Bevis of Paumanake Road,
Blue Point, is home on a two-week leave
from Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota.

Miss Kathleen Russo, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Gaetano Russo of South Summit Avenue,
Patchogue, received a Bachelor of
Science degree in physical therapy at the
53rd commencement exercises of Russell
Sage College, Troy, N.Y., Friday.
Corporal Michael P. Hurley of Patchogue
was promoted to his present rank May 1
while serving with Headquarters Company,
Ninth Engineer Battalion in Vietnam.
His duties deal with heavy equipment
motor transportation.
Navy Seaman Apprentice John P. Drennan
is in the Mediterranean aboard the
destroyer USS Vogelgesang.
Two graduates from the State University
of New York at Buffalo, Friday afternoon,
were Raymond C. Holz of Sinn Street and R.
Yvonne White of Prospect Avenue. Mr. Holz
received a B.A. degree in English and Miss
White was given a B.A. in psychology.
George Seyfert of George Court, Bellport,
piloted his family to Reading, Pa., on his
Stinson Voyager to visit friends for the
Memorial Day weekend.
Miss Susan Tully, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. John Tully of North Howells Point
Road, returned home last Wednesday from
a trip to Montreal, Canada, and Cortland, N.Y.
Paul S. Warner, son of Dr. and Mrs. James
R. Warner Jr. of Bellhaven Road, is scheduled
to receive a Bachelor of Science
degree in civil engineering tomorrow at
commencement exercises at Lafayette College,
Easton, Pa. He is a 1966 graduate of
Bellport High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Jan Siebus of Montauk
Highway, Blue Point, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Janet I. Siebus,
to John Vander Zalm, son of Mrs. Katrien
Vander Zalm and the late Arie Vander
Zalm of Bellport. A summer wedding is planned.
Playing this week at the Patchogue Theatre:
“Bob and Carol & Ted and Alice,” starring
Natalie Wood and Robert Culp; at
the Plaza Theatre: Peter Sellers and Ringo
Starr in “The Magic Christian” and at the
Patchogue Sunrise All-Weather Drive-In: The
Beatles’ “Let it Be.”

The dedication of shrubs in memory of
servicemen who lost their lives for their
country took place Memorial Day at the
Barton Avenue School, Patchogue. The
presentation was made by Junior Girl
Scout Troop 1343 and Brownie Troop 1347.
Mr. and Mrs. David Dayton of Grove
Avenue attended the commencement
exercises at New York State University
College, Oswego, Sunday, when their son,
Richard E. Dayton, received his Bachelor
of Science degree. Mr. Dayton, who graduated
magna cum laude from Oswego in
January, has been teaching industrial arts
for the spring semester at the Earl L. Vandermeulen
High School, Port Jefferson.
The Patchogue Recreation Department
sponsored their annual Spring Downhill
Derby last Saturday at the Rider Avenue
Park. Brian Terry won first place in the
8-to-9-year-old category, Jeff Furman took
first in the 10-to-11-year-old category and
Bruce Terry was the first-place winner for
the 12-to-13-year-olds.
Joseph J. Luca, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Velmore L. Luca of Shore Road, Patchogue,
graduated May 31 from the New York
State Maritime College at Fort Schuyler,
with a Bachelor of Science degree in
oceanography and meteorology. He has
been commissioned an ensign in the U.S.
Navy and been given a license to serve as
third mate aboard any oceangoing vessel.
Lisa Temple, Sheryl Tenzyk, Cheryl and
Suzette Emma and Lynn Harris, all of East
Patchogue, took part in the recital held
at the Gateway Theatre May 31, given by
the Ruth Allen Dancers. Nina Tuzza, Marie
La Placa and Dawn Lenz performed in the
annual recital held Saturday at the Jimmy
Rocco Studio of Dance, Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stile of Pearl
Street, Bellport, entertained at a joint
birthday party for their daughters, Marie,
recently 9, and Elizabeth, age 8. Eighteen
girlfriends attended the celebration.
Brian Hannon left Friday for basic training
with the National Guard at Fort Bragg,
N.C. Mrs. Hannon is the former Pamela
Strickland of Browns Lane.
Mrs. Marianne Moore of East Patchogue
has announced the engagement of her
daughter, Kathleen, to Joseph F. Leddy Jr.,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Leddy of
Bellport. Miss Moore is also the daughter
of the late Charles A. Moore. Miss Moore
is a graduate of Seton Hall High School,
Patchogue, and of St. Clare’s Hospital
School of Nursing. Mr. Leddy is a graduate
of Bellport High School. An autumn
wedding is planned.

Stationed in Okinawa is Navy Petty
Officer 3/c James C. Schroeder of
Patchogue, who has just been promoted
to his present rank. Having entered the
Navy in 1968, he graduated from the
Naval Communications Training Center at Pensacola, Fla.
George A. Mason Jr. and Samuel
Stahlman took the oath of office as
members of the Patchogue-Medford
Board of Education following their recent
election. School board president Alfred
J. Chiuchiolo congratulated both men on
their election. Chiuchiolo and Charles
S. Hamm Sr. were re-elected and Albert
Benincasa was elected to three-year terms
on the school board, which begin July 1.
Miss Jeanne Ann Logan, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert F. Logan of North Ocean
Avenue, graduated May 24 from the State
University of Arts and Sciences, Geneseo,
N.Y., with a Bachelor of Science degree. A
speech and hearing major, she will begin
studies toward her master’s degree in September.
Robert Foray, son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Foray of Maple Avenue, was graduated
from Brooklyn College of Pharmacy,
where he was vice chancellor of the
Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
international fraternity of the healing
arts. He has accepted a position with the
May Drug Company in Rockford, Ill.
A happy couple was Mr. and Mrs.
Michael LaGrega after their wedding
ceremony May 17 in St. Francis de Sales
R.C. Church, Patchogue. They held their
reception at Centereach’s Holiday Inn
and spent a week in Florida. The bride is
the former Miss Patricia Lynn Costello of Patchogue.
Janet Ryan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Ryan of Colonial Lane, Bellport,
celebrated her 7th birthday with a party
for 20 friends at her home Saturday afternoon.
Peter Rant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Rant of South Country Road, is home for
the summer vacation after completing his
freshman year at Idaho State University
in Pocatello, Idaho.
Mr. and Mrs. James Cumming of
General McLean Drive announce the
birth of a son, Jared Nathaniel, at North
Shore Hospital in Manhasset, Friday.
Jared joins his two brothers, James and Jonathan.
Members of the Bellport High School
senior class took a “Magical Mystery
Tour” Friday, starting with a scavenger
hunt at the Smithtown Mall. The winner
of the hunt, Debbie Hermus, was awarded
two tickets to the Three Dog Night
concert at Madison Square Garden. The
next stop was the Timber Point Country
Club, where the students were served a
Hawaiian luau and enjoyed swimming in
the pool. A live band provided music for
dancing. Later the students were bused
to the Fillmore East in New York City
to attend a rock concert by the Procol
Harum and the Rhinoceros band.
