Mr. and Mrs. Gaetano Russo of South Summit
Avenue, Patchogue, have announced
the engagement of their daughter, Kathleen,
to Richard Henning, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Henning of Conklin Avenue,
Patchogue. Miss Russo received her B.S.
degree from Russell Sage College, Troy,
N.Y., and her Certificate of Physical Therapy
from Albany Medical College. She is a
physical therapist employed at St. Charles
Hospital, Port Jefferson. Mr. Henning is a
graduate of Suffolk County Community
College, Selden. He is a member of the
National Guard, now receiving his basic
training at Fort Jackson, S.C. A July 1971
wedding is planned.
Sunlight and smiles promise a happy
future for Mr. and Mrs. John Peter Bach,
ready to begin their new life together after
their wedding Sept. 19 in Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel R.C. Church, Patchogue. Mr. Bach
and his bride, the former Miss Ida Ann Puma
of Patchogue, are making their home in Patchogue.
Chester Arthur Jr. was confirmed at Christ
Church, Bellport, Sunday afternoon. The
godparents are Mr. and Mrs. Guy Relethford
and Archibald Macauley. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Sr. entertained at a family party at their
home on Bell Street, Bellport, following the services.
Saturday afternoon a party was held for
Tina Tutine of Country Club Road in celebration
of her 11th birthday. Those attending
were Nancy Kirchgessner, Jean Bookless, Susan
Schuman, Gail Dayton, Debbie Brouwer and Marjorie Woodwell.
Mrs. Constance Bohn of Browns Lane went
to a luncheon for the alumni of the Clionian
Sorority of SUNY at New Paltz, held at the
Hilton Hotel in Tarrytown. She drove there
with Mrs. Jack Zyerveld of Islip and Mrs.
Fred Mohlmann of Brookhaven.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Baier of Bellhaven
Road drove to South Hadley, Mass., to visit
their daughter, Sally, a freshman at Mount
Holyoke College.
Coast Guard Cadet 3/c Clifford R. Brown of
Brookhaven has begun his second year at
the Coast Guard Academy in New London,
Conn. Upon his graduation in 1973 with a
B.S. degree, he will be commissioned an
ensign in the Coast Guard.

15 Mr. and Mrs. Artie Recchio of Terry
Place, Patchogue, celebrated their silver
wedding anniversary Oct. 4 at the VFW
Hall on Dunton Avenue, East Patchogue,
with 50 relatives and friends attending.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gunstone,
residents of Rowland Street for the past 22
years, have just returned from a vacation
motor trip to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., driven
by their son and daughter-in-law, Officer
and Mrs. Donald Gunstone of Levittown.
Officer Gunstone took his parents on a
detour through the Carolinas, Georgia and
Virginia so they could enjoy an extended
scenic trip through those southern states.
Miss Barbara Ann Benincasa, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Louis H. Benincasa of
Division Street, has registered for the fall
term at Johnson College, Johnson, Vt., a
four-year liberal arts college.
Duffy Dyer, a catcher for the New York
Mets, will be the guest speaker at the
14th annual North Patchogue-Medford
Youth Athletic Club awards dinner to be
held Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Promotions to sergeant in the Air
Force have been earned by two local men,
George W. Severin Jr., of Patchogue, and
John E. Main, whose wife Loretta is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nevin of
Patchogue. Sgt. Severin is a helicopter
mechanic at Eglin AFB, Fla. Sgt. Main is a
fuel systems mechanic at Nellis AFB, Nev.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Savage of
Andreano Avenue, East Patchogue,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Susan Margaret, to William A.
Matthews, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry E.
Matthews of Old North Ocean Avenue,
Patchogue. Miss Savage, a former teacher
at St. Patrick’s School in Bay Shore,
is now employed by the Bank of New
York on Wall Street, New York City. Mr.
Matthews (Rock) is a graduate of Suffolk
County Community College, Selden, and
a veteran of Vietnam. He is attending
Hofstra College, Hempstead.
Mr. and Mrs. Francis Hermus of North
Brewster Lane and Mr. and Mrs. John
Hanson of North Howells Point Road,
both Bellport, attended the Danbury Fair
Saturday, then took a tour of Connecticut,
Massachusetts and New York to view the fall foliage.
Attending the Stock Car Race at
Langhorne, Pa., over the Columbus
Day weekend were Mr. and Mrs. August
Waldron, Mr. and Mrs. David Waldron, Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Pizzo and Miss Jeanne Waldron.
Mrs. Henry M. Halsted Jr. of South
Country Road went to Williamstown,
Mass., for the weekend with a group of
friends to attend a fall reunion of the
Williams College Class of 1918. They saw
the Middlebury-Williams football game Saturday.
A crafts club has been formed by Jean
Bookless, Carol Silverman, Jackie LeBrun
and Linda Seyfert. Yesterday the girls met
at the Silvermans’ home for lunch and
their first meeting. They are planning
to learn how to hook rugs for their first project.
A peaceful setting reflected the mood of
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Byrd Jr., after a lovely
wedding ceremony Sept. 18 in Our Lady
of the Snow R.C. Church, Blue Point. At
home now in Patchogue are Mr. Byrd and
his bride, the former Miss Ann Italiano of
Blue Point, following their return from
their wedding trip to the Poconos.
George Norris of Southaven Avenue,
Medford, a senior at Patchogue Senior
High School South, has been selected
as one of three outstanding science
students chosen from Nassau and Suffolk
schools to attend the 1970 National Youth
Conference on the Atom, sponsored by
Long Island Lighting Company and being
held in Chicago Oct. 22-24. George plans
to attend either Purdue University or
University of Virginia after high school
for a career in systems computer science.

Five students from Patchogue High
School were selected to sing in the All-
State Conference Choir, which will
perform at the New York State School
Music Association conference Dec.
6-10 at the Concord Hotel in Kiamesha
Lake. They will also appear with the
area All-State Choir, which will perform
at Deer Park High School Nov. 21. The
students are Victor Montemurro, Mary Lou
Pausewang, David Rivera, Joseph Ness and
Carl Whidden.
Miss Pearl Skelaney, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Skelaney of
South Street, Patchogue, who received
her master’s degree in education this
week at Adelphi College, has accepted a
position to teach sixth grade at the West
Elementary School in Andover, Mass.
Honored at a party held for him Oct. 2 in
the American Legion Hall, Bohemia, was
Elsworth Widmer of Lewis Road, North
Patchogue, on his recent retirement from
the Signal Department of the Long Island
Rail Road, after 45 years of service.
Mrs. Frank Ransome and Miss Elsie
Bosch will entertain the members of
the Patchogue Sorosis at cards 2 p.m.
Wednesday in the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Robert J. Gould, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Lawrence N. Gould of Shore Road, was
a member of the orchestra of the recent
production of “The Fantastics” at Tufts
University, Medford, Mass. Mr. Gould, a
sophomore at the college, is majoring in sociology.
The wedding ceremony of Mr. and
Mrs. James Space took place Sept. 20 in
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church,
Patchogue. The former Miss Elaine
Mottola of Patchogue, the bride and
her husband are at home in Patchogue
following their wedding trip to Nassau,
the Grand Bahamas.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Warburton of
Bieselin Road, Bellport, accompanied
their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Vining, to Milwaukee, Wis.,
where the latter are making their new
home. On their way home, Mr. and Mrs.
Warburton visited in the Pennsylvania
Dutch Country, Atlantic City and
Smithville Village, N.J.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Dorsey Smith of
Bellport Lane drove to Milton, Mass.,
to attend Parents Weekend at Curry
College, where their daughter, Karen, is a freshman.
Michael Klein, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Klein of South Country Road, has
joined the U.S. Army and reported to Fort Dix, N.J.
An afternoon party was given for Garth
Crow on Friday in celebration of his 6th
birthday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Crow of Bayview Street. Those
present were Garth’s brother Sean, Scott
Gibbs, Paul Sampson, Peter Pitzer, Richard
LeBrun, Matt Havens, David Barbero,
Steven Huck and John Zavesky.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Briggs of Edgar
Avenue, Brookhaven, and their two
children spent the weekend with Mr.
and Mrs. Richard Brown of Stillwoods
Lane and their four children visiting
with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nehrbass
of Hicks, N.Y. The children enjoyed the
farm surroundings and spent some time
picking apples, which were plentiful.
Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Schait of
Woodland Avenue, Brookhaven,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Frances Mary, to Nicholas J.
Malyk of Montauk Highway, Sayville, son
of Mrs. Anna Malyk and the late Nicholas
Malyk of Circle Drive, Patchogue. Miss
Schait is employed in the data processing
department at BOCES 2 in Patchogue. Mr.
Malyk is completing his apprenticeship in
mortuary science at McAllister Institute
of Funeral Service in New York City.
Al Ellis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert H.
Ellis of Long Island Avenue, Medford,
was recently elected captain of the varsity
soccer team at Furman University in
South Carolina. He was also appointed
assistant director of all intramural
sports at the university. He is a senior
preparing to become a physical education
and health teacher. Al is a 1967 graduate
of Patchogue High School.

Philip H. Benincasa, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Benincasa of Patchogue and a
former teacher in the Bayport-Blue Point
school system, has accepted a position
as principal of the Silver Hill Elementary
School, Silver Hill, Md. Mr. Benincasa,
a Patchogue High School graduate, who
received his B.S. degree from the State
University at New Paltz and his master’s
from Columbia University, is the youngest
principal in Prince George County, Md. He
is making his home in Bowie, Md., with his
wife Jacqueline and children Nora Kathleen and Christian.
Miss Deborah Winans, a Patchogue High
School junior, is a member of the Chamber
Singers, who are presenting a concert
tomorrow night at Yankton College, Yankton,
S.D. She is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Winans of North Prospect Avenue.
Miss Sheralyn Scotto, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur James Scotto of Gillette Avenue,
has been named to the Dean’s List at
the annual Honors Convocation at Marymount
College, Tarrytown, N.Y. Miss Scotto
is a senior majoring in art.
Lambros Paraschos, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Elias Paraschos of Wiggins Avenue, has
entered Southampton College, Southampton.
He is a Patchogue High School graduate.
Miss Mary Donohue of Beach Avenue has
enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for a four-year
tour of duty and will receive her basic training
at Lackland AFB, Texas. Miss Donohue
has a brother, James, serving in the Army
at Fort Eustis, Va. Her mother, Mrs. Nadine
Donohue, has served with the Air Transport Command.
Mrs. Dorothy Manning of Northridge Street,
Patchogue, announces the engagement of
her daughter, Mary Lou, to Brian Kenna, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kenna of Northridge
Street. Miss Manning, a graduate of Patchogue
High School, is employed by the
Peoples National Bank of Patchogue. Mr.
Kenna, also a Patchogue High graduate,
works for J.C. Printing of Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Maragioglio posed for
their wedding photo Oct. 17 after the marriage
ceremony in St. Joseph the Worker
R.C. Church, East Patchogue. Following a
week spent in Freeport, the Grand Bahamas,
Mr. Maragioglio and his bride, the
former Miss Karen Gallo of East Patchogue,
are making their home in Bellport.
Miss Susan Gibson, a student at Northfield
School in Massachusetts, spent the weekend
with her mother, Mrs. John Gibson of
Pearl Street, Bellport.
Mr. and Mrs. John Cummings of Point
Road were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Nelson Rockefeller Saturday night, when the
Rockefellers entertained New York’s weekly
newspaper publishers at an informal
dinner party at Pocantico Hills.
Miss Eva McGrath, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Tom McGrath of Otis Lane, entertained
a group of friends at a party at her
home Saturday night.
Mesdames Knute Lee, Edward Ljungqvist,
John Bird and C. Oliver Wellington went as
guests of Mrs. Robert Lea to attend the
National Conference on Citizens Rights in
Broadcasting, held at the Americana in
New York on Monday.
Karen Schuman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Schuman of Bieselin Road, celebrated
her 13th birthday with a spaghetti
supper party Saturday. Eighteen girls were present.
