Andy Schiatta of Nottingham Avenue,
Patchogue, returned Oct. 1 from a week in
Miami Beach, Fla., where he attended an
air transport conference.
Richard W. Quinn of Cleveland Street
in August completed the curriculum
and course required for a B.A. degree in
secondary English at the State University
College at Fredonia, N.Y. He will be
awarded his degree at commencement
ceremonies in May.
Miss Sherry Clayman, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Morris Clayman of North Phyllis
Drive, a junior at Concord College, W. Va,
was elected homecoming queen for 1970-
71. An elementary education major, she
was sponsored by the Theta Xi Fraternity
and the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity.
Mr. and Mrs. John T. McMullen of
Washington Avenue announce the
engagement of their daughter, Patricia,
to Eugene Baiardi, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Mazzotti of Wilstan Avenue. Miss
McMullen is a 1968 graduate of Patchogue
High School and is now attending Suffolk
County Community College, Selden. Mr.
Baiardi, a 1964 graduate of Patchogue
High School, is employed by the Suffolk
County Water Authority.
A promotion in Vietnam to his present
rank has been earned by Sergeant Steven
Friedman of Patchogue, who is serving
with the Nineteenth Tactical and Support
Squadron at Bien Hoa Air Base.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bishop of Bayview
Avenue, Bellport, entertained about 60
friends and relatives at a cocktail party and
buffet Sunday evening, in celebration of
their 25th wedding anniversary. The party
was held at the home of Mrs. Maryanne
Pilger of Patchogue. The couple received
many lovely gifts, including a “memory”
book containing photographs. Friends
wrote in the book about various incidents
they had shared with the Bishops over the years.
A surprise party was given for Patti
Arthur last Thursday night in celebration
of her 14th birthday. It was held at the
Wayte home on North Brewster Lane,
hosts being Robbie Wayte and Helen
Sink, with 20 of her friends attending.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur entertained at a
family birthday dinner party the previous evening.
John, Christa, Jennifer and Wendy Dowd,
children of Mr. and Mrs. John Dowd of
Wyandotte Lane, entertained a group of
their friends at a Halloween costume party
at their home Saturday. A treasure hunt
was held and the winner, Pierce Williams,
received the book “Treasure Island.”

Miss Sharon T. Gavin, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Nicholas Gavin of Hayward
Street, Patchogue, a junior at Bucknell
University, Lewisburg, Pa., will be making
a four-day tour with the 70-voice Bucknell
Chapel Choir for a series of concerts in
central New York this month.
Martin Mariella of Maple Avenue is
the recipient of a Regents War Service
Scholarship for veterans, for use during
the current academic year. He will be
given $350 a year for four years of full
or part-time graduate or undergraduate study.
Saturday night at the American
Legion Hall, Baker Street, Mrs. Leonard
T. Bacelli was the guest of honor. Twentynine
guests from Patchogue, Shirley and
Easton, Pa., attended the party, which was
given by Miss Candace Migliorato. Mrs.
Bacelli is expecting her baby sometime
during the Christmas holidays.
Ready to receive their guests at their
reception at Felice’s of Patchogue were
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Miraglia, prior to
starting on their wedding trip to Florida.
The couple was married Oct. 3 in St.
Francis de Sales R.C. Church, Patchogue.
Mr. Miraglia and his bride, the former
Miss Suzanne Agnetti of Patchogue, are
dwelling in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Debbie Reib, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Reib of Munsell Road, East
Patchogue, celebrated her birthday Oct.
25 with a costume party on the 24th. The
children were supplied with masks and
makeup to complement their costumes.
Mrs. Reib is one of the new Brownie
leaders at Dunton Avenue School.
Dr. and Mrs. William Bissell of Peat Hole
Lane, Bellport, invited a large group of
guests to their home Nov. 1 to meet Evelyn
Varney of East Patchogue and view an
exclusive collection of alpaca garments on
display in her shop. The sweaters, ponchos,
hats and other items are handmade by the
Quechua Indians from the Cochabamba
suburb of Bolivia.
First Lieut. Richard S. Beth visited his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Beth
of Leisurely Lane, over the weekend. He
is in the Adjutant General’s Corps and
currently stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.
Saturday afternoon at halftime at the
James Wilson Young High School, Jackie
Weiler of Bayview Avenue, Blue Point, was
crowned homecoming queen. Her sister,
Kathy, was crowned homecoming queen
last year, but she is away at Brandywine
College, Del., and couldn’t make it home
to crown her sister as queen. |

Miss Sylvia Joyce Turner, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. Burghardt Turner of
Maple Avenue, Patchogue, is a member of
the freshman class at Brown University,
Providence, R.I. A Patchogue High School
graduate, she is working toward a Master
of Medical Sciences degree in the six-year
biology program.
Former residents of Patchogue, Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Schumacher, who are now
living in Flushing, celebrated their golden
wedding anniversary Saturday with a
dinner at Land’s End, Sayville.
The name of Frank M. Perry Jr., has been
added to the plaque honoring Patchogue
High School pupils who have lost their
lives during the Vietnam conflict. Judi
Paparelli, president of the senior class,
read a eulogy honoring Frank and his
classmates who have given their lives for
the service of their country. In attendance
at the ceremony, which was held at the
high school on Veterans Day, were Frank’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Perry Sr.;
his aunt, Mrs. Angelina O’Connell;
grandfather, James Perry, and Frank’s
sister, Michelle Perry, a seventh-grade
student at South Ocean Middle School.
Helping airlift some 11,000 Army
troops from Kansas to West Germany
recently was Air Force Sergeant Arthur H.
Gack, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Esser
of Patchogue. The airlift was a realistic
training exercise, Reforger II, of the NATO
nations. Sgt. Gack is a flight engineer
with the C-141 Starlifter crews of McGuire
AFB, N.J. The troops will be returned to
Kansas following maneuvers.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Myers of
Bayport have announced the engagement
of their daughter, Nancy, to DeWitt Davies
of East Patchogue. Miss Myers is a
graduate of James Wilson Young High
School and Suffolk County Community
College, Selden. She is currently
employed as a technical assistant at Stony
Brook University. Mr. Davies attended
Patchogue High School and is a cum laude
graduate of Dartmouth College, N.H. He is
attending graduate school at the Marine
Science Research Center, Stony Brook.
Robert DiDio, son of Mr. and Mrs. Angelo
DiDio of New Jersey Avenue, Bellport,
went to Croton-on-the-Hudson Saturday
to run in the cross country meet for the
state, representing Suffolk County and
came in third. He came in 35th in the
state with about 200 participating. Robert
made the 2½-mile race in 13 minutes,
57 seconds. The heavy rains on Friday
night flooded the course, and its muddy
condition slowed the runners.
Mrs. Robert Gibbs and Mrs. John Crow
gave a Neighborhood Coffee Tuesday
morning to welcome a new resident, Mrs.
Sal Rizzo of Circuit Road. Mr. and Mrs.
Rizzo moved here from Pennsylvania.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Pils of General
McLean Drive held a double celebration
Saturday with a party in honor of their
daughter, Carole. Miss Pils celebrated
her birthday and the announcement
of her engagement to Corporal Joseph
Hennessey Jr., of Washington, D.C.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Joseph Rea were
married Oct. 3 in St. Sylvester’s R.C.
Church, Medford. Following a wedding
trip to Connecticut, the couple is living in
Patchogue. The bride is the former Miss
Frances Jean Tauriello of Medford.

At Fleet Training Center, Newport,
R.I., Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice
Judd W. Diener of Patchogue has
completed Quartermaster and
Signalman School courses at the fleet training center.
Basics have been completed by
Airman Charles A. Herold of North
Patchogue at Lackland AFB, Texas.
His new assignment is to Sheppard
AFB, Texas, for training in aircraft maintenance.
Mr. and Mrs. George Ackermann of
Patchogue announce the engagement
of their daughter, Arleen, to William
Francis Amato, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Rosario Amato of Deer Park.
Miss Ackermann is a graduate
of Patchogue High School and is
employed by the Suffolk County
Probation Department. Mr. Amato, a
graduate of St. John’s University, is
a probation officer with the Suffolk
County Probation Department. No
date has been set for the wedding.
Linda Prybyzerski celebrated her
5th birthday Sunday with friends
and relatives at a party given by
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Prybyzerski of Circuit Road, Bellport.
Gordon Fleming, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Malcolm Fleming of Academy
Lane, has returned from a six-week
trip to Europe with Fred Thorner.
They toured art museums in Spain,
Italy, London, Amsterdam and Oslo.
Gordon and Fred were classmates at
New York School of Visual Arts.
A happy day for Mr. and Mrs.
Richard James Gazzola was their
wedding day, Oct. 11, when they were
married in Mary Immaculate R.C.
Church, Bellport. Their reception at
GOP Headquarters in Blue Point was
followed by two weeks spent in the
Poconos. Mr. Gazzola, who spent four
years in the U.S. Air Force and is
now employed by the Suffolk County
Mosquito Control Commission in
Yaphank, and his bride, the former
Miss Diane Katherine Blute of
Patchogue, are now living in East Patchogue.
Graduating from an Air Force
freight specialist course at Sheppard
AFB, Texas, Airman Howard Gregory
of Blue Point has been assigned to
Rheine Main AB, Germany, for duty
with the Military Airlift Command.
William Stevens, Leon Swezey and
Ronald Kott of Blue Point spent the
week hunting in Delaware County.
Upon their return Saturday they
brought home a doe and a buck.
