Three brothers, Frank, Steve and Bob
Hutton, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
J. Hutton of Marvin Street, Patchogue,
either are or have been serving in the
Armed Forces. Frank completed three
years in the Army, having earned the
rank of Specialist 5 after 15 months with
a missile group in Germany. He is now
attending school in New York City. Steve
will be serving aboard a submarine after
a year of nuclear training at Bainbridge,
in May. Robert, having graduated with
honors from a naval submarine training
school in San Diego, Calif., will have
further training at New London, Conn.,
before being assigned to a nuclear
submarine in Hawaii. A fourth brother,
Bill, a 1970 high school graduate, will
be attending SUNY in Morrisville
in September. Their father, a former
Patchogue Fire Department chief, also
saw service with the Army in WWII.
Glenn M. Hunter, son of Mrs. Yvette
Hunter of Harris Street, has made the
Dean’s List at Hofstra University in
Hempstead. He is majoring in fine arts education.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Williams of
Patchogue announce the engagement
of their daughter, Peggy Anne, to
David Stokes, son of Mrs. Sally Stokes
of Wantagh and Ralph Stokes of
Oklahoma. Miss Williams, a graduate
of Patchogue High School, is employed
in the bookkeeping department of the
Peoples National Bank of Patchogue.
Mr. Stokes, a graduate of Wantagh High
School, is employed with ANKA Sheet
Metal Corporation and is attending the
State University at Farmingdale. No date
has been set for the wedding.
Returned to San Diego, Calif., after
six months deployment to the Western
Pacific, is Navy Seaman Apprentice
Michael Belmonte of Patchogue. He
is serving aboard the destroyer USS Hamner.
Miss Doreen Tuzza, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Tuzza of Woodacres
Road, East Patchogue, celebrated her
7th birthday on Sunday with a dinner
party held in her honor. It was attended
by Mr. and Mrs. Nino Rubino of George
Street, her grandparents, and a few of her friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Travis Rauch of South
Howells Point Road, Bellport, spent
several days last week in Philadelphia, Pa.
Mr. and Mrs. George Shelton of
Livingston Road returned Sunday from a
five-week trip to Florida. They stayed at
the Manatee Resort in Port Salerno while
visiting friends there and in Stuart.
Katharine Bliss Goff, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Lyman Bliss of South Howells
Point Road, will have a one-man show
of her paintings and collages at Valley
National Bank on Station Road, Bellport,
starting tomorrow. Mrs. Goff, who
studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art
School and at the Silvermine Guild in
Connecticut, is a longtime member of
the South Bay Art Association.
Winners of the Sunday School Easter
drawing contest at the Ruth AME
Zion Church on April 2 were Stanford
Conquest, who won a ham, and Mrs.
Florence Travalee, who won a turkey.
Chuck Quappe, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Quappe of Locust Road,
Brookhaven, celebrated his 11th birthday
last Tuesday. Karl Rowley, Michael Quinn
and Nat Norton were his guests at the
movie, “Tora, Tora, Tora.” After the
movies, they went for ice cream.
Basics have been completed by Louis
Perino Jr., of Brookhaven, at Fort Polk,
Ala. He is now in tank training at Fort Sill, Okla.

Kevin Rhodes, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Rhodes of East Lakewood Street,
Patchogue, who has been named to
the Dean’s List at Houghton College,
Houghton, N.Y., for the past semester, has
been on tour during the Easter vacation
with the Houghton College Band,
traveling trough parts of Pennsylvania,
Ohio and Michigan.
Roger Overton, president of the
Emanuel Lutheran Church congregation,
won a trip to Hawaii for himself and his
wife, Margaret, from the Aid Association
for Lutherans, his employer, for his work
in selling over a million dollars worth
of life insurance during 1970. The trip
also marked the occasion of their 20th
wedding anniversary.
In Hawaii on March 20, Mrs. Linda
Lang Stow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.
Wilson Lang of Laurel Street, Patchogue,
became the bride of Lieut. James Price
Hampson, USN, son of Mrs. Price
Hampson and the late Mr. Hampson
of Albuquerque, N.M. The bride is a
graduate of Patchogue High School and
Elmira College and Columbia University.
She is a lieutenant in the Nurses Corps
of the Navy, serving in a medical unit at
the Barbers Point Station. Lt. Hampson,
a graduate of the University of New
Mexico, is a mechanical engineer. He is
a pilot and navigator, serving with the
VR-21 Flight Squadron based at the point.
Active duty for training aboard the U.S.
Coast Guard cutter Unimak has been
completed by Gunners Mate 1/c Alfred
Salvatore of Patchogue, who is in the CG
Reserves. He sailed on the Atlantic Ocean
and the Caribbean, with a stopover at
Nassau, the Bahamas. His home base is
with a training unit in the Bronx.
Miss Jan Harting has returned to
her studies at Potsdam College after
spending the mid-semester break with
her parents, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.)
and Mrs. Howard Harting of Circuit
Road, Bellport.
Peter Rand returned to Boston, Mass.,
to complete his studies at Wentworth
Institute after spending spring vacation
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo
Rand of Munsell Road. He flew to
Washington, D.C., for a short visit with
Douglas Borg last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey Wills and
daughter, Virginia, of Forest Row,
England, left April 6 after an 11-day visit
with Mr. and Mrs. Lispenard Suydam of
Bellport Lane.
Carter Coleman celebrated his 16th
birthday with a family party at his home
Sunday afternoon. He is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Irving Coleman Jr., of Circuit Road.
Mrs. Dudley Janvier and Mrs. Charles
Axtmann have returned from a month’s
vacation in Portugal. They sailed on
the Italian liner Cristoforo Colombo to
Portugal, then rented a car and toured
parts of the country.
Military policeman serving near Chu
Lai, Vietnam, is Army Staff Sergeant
Ralph Di Biasi of Holbrook, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Gus Di Biasi of Bellport. He
holds the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star
Medal for Valor, the Air Medal and the
Army Commendation Medal.
Bonnie Wruck of Stillwoods Lane,
Brookhaven, celebrated her 7th birthday
last Monday with 12 of her friends at a
party after school. Her brother, Scott,
celebrated his 16th birthday Easter
Sunday at a family party.
Playing this week at the Patchogue
Theatre: George C. Scott and Karl Malden
in “Patton”; at the Rialto Theatre: Walt
Disney’s “The Aristocats,” together with
John Wayne in “The Undefeated”; and
at the Patchogue Sunrise All-Weather
Drive-In: “Cold Turkey,” starring Dick Van Dyke.

Deployment in the Western Pacific
is over for Navy Seaman Apprentice
James W.F. Fuece of Patchogue, who has
returned to his homeport, Long Beach,
Calif., aboard the USS Camden after a seven-month trip.
Miss Sheralyn Scotto, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur James Scotto of
Gillette Avenue, Patchogue, is one of
11 studio art majors exhibiting in the
annual Senior Art Exhibit at Marymount
College, Tarrytown, N.Y. Her project
consists of paintings and felt appliques,
and the theme, “The Senses,” is carried
out through the use of bold patterns and brilliant colors.
Mrs. Violet Armstrong has returned
from her stay in Florida and is residing
at the Rider Avenue Apartments.
Mr. and Mrs. Settimo Prestano of
Patchogue announce the engagement of
their daughter, Paula, to Dale C. Neal,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Neal of
Blue Point. Miss Prestano is a senior
at Patchogue High School. Mr. Neal
is employed as a clerk at Blue Jay
Supermarket in Blue Point. The wedding
is planned for June 18, 1972.
Miss Brand’s second-grade class
from the East Patchogue Elementary
School spent April 13 at the Long Island
Game Farm in Manorville. Playing in a
haystack seemed to be one of the most
satisfactory events of the day for the
children. Mrs. Jay Backes and Mrs.
Elizabeth Kroog chaperoned the outing.
Mrs. E. Floyd Hassell of Bellport
and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Maggio
of Brookhaven spent Sunday in Port
Washington visiting Captain and Mrs.
Charles Williamsen and family.
Miss Madge Greene of Maple Street
spent the weekend at Murfreesboro, Tenn.
The Hearth Club had a potluck supper
at the Wesley House of the Bellport
United Methodist Church Sunday night.
The couples in charge of the evening

chairmen; Mr. and Mrs. James Vaughan;

Nancy Lipson, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Herbert Lipson of Shields Court,
Brookhaven, has been named to the
Dean’s List at Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y.

Mr. and Mrs. John DeSant of Jennings
Avenue, Patchogue, were pleasantly surprised
by a visit from their many relatives
and friends during Saturday on
the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary.
Robert Figueira of Log Road, a student
at C.W. Post College, Greenvale, L.I., was
named to the Dean’s List for the fall 1970 semester.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Recchio of Patchogue
announce the engagement of
their daughter, Susan, to Robert Kogler,
son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kogler of
Bellport. The future bride, a 1968 graduate
of Patchogue High School, is a junior
at the State University College at Cortland,
N.Y. Her fiancé is a 1968 graduate
of Mercy High School, Riverhead, and
will graduate in June 1972 from the State
University at Geneseo, N.Y. No date has
been set for the wedding.
Miss Marsha Koronkiewicz, daughter of
Mrs. Chester Koronkiewicz and the late
Mr. Koronkiewicz of North Patchogue,
graduated Feb. 28 as a licensed practical
nurse from the Mid-Suffolk School
of Practical Nursing. She is now in the
employ of Dr. Ernest Bilmes in Patchogue.
Happiness was reflected in the smiles
of Specialist 5 and Mrs. Charles M. Kahn
as they posed for their wedding pictures
April 18. The ceremony was performed
at the home of the bride, the former Miss
Carol Susan Balbirer of East Patchogue.
Following a stay in Cape Cod, Mass., the
couple will reside in Germany, where
Spec. Kahn is stationed for the last six
months of his service in the U.S. Army.
Mrs. Christian Wold of Sequesta, Fla.,
spent several days this week as the guest
of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bergskaug of General
McLean Drive, Bellport. The Wolds
were former residents of Bellport.
Mr. and Mrs. William Strickland of
Browns Lane attended an open house
Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. George Stegmann of Sayville, in
celebration of their 25th anniversary.
The Stegmanns are former Bellport residents.
Eileen Clair, Patricia Tunney and Chuck
Walter played giraffes in a program given
by Mrs. Rossi’s first-grade class at
the Kreamer Street Elementary School.
Squeaker, played by Chris Kusa, was a
little dog who was lost at the zoo. Elephants,
lions, hyenas, giraffes and bears
were animals portrayed by the children.
Mr. and Mrs. John Schroeder of Division
Avenue, Blue Point, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Eileen, to
Louis Santangelo, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Santangelo of North Prospect
Avenue, Patchogue. Miss Schroeder is
employed by Stimpson Company in Bayport.
Mr. Santangelo is in the employ of
the Long Island Rail Road. The wedding
is planned for April 1972.

A toast was in order for Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Leslie Dilg Jr., at their wedding
reception April 18 at the Pine Grove
Inn, East Patchogue. The marriage took
place in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church,
Patchogue. Mr. Dilg and his bride,
the former Miss Linda June Still of
Patchogue, are living in Brookhaven.
On April 23, Cub Scout Pack 11,
sponsored by the Congregational
Church of Patchogue, held its annual
Pinewood Derby. The winners were: Mark
Koesterer, first place; Ricky Belmonte,
second place, and Kenny Thomas, third
place. The boys displayed their cars and
trophies with Cub Master Al Koch.
Looking forward to a wedding trip to
Hawaii were Mr. and Mrs. John Maloney
Jr., after their wedding ceremony April 17
in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church,
Patchogue. Their reception was held in
Mt. Carmel Hall. Mr. Maloney and his
bride, the former Miss Kathy Mott of
North Patchogue, are both employed by
the New York Telephone Company and
will reside in Islip.
Tommy Curcio, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ross Curcio of Dunton Avenue, East
Patchogue, received his First Communion
last Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker
R.C. Church. A dinner party was given
in his honor and also to celebrate Mr.
Curcio’s birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McGrath and
family of Otis Lane, Bellport, flew home
last Thursday from a week’s vacation in
California. They visited family in Los
Angeles and La Jolla.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Webster of
Bellport Lane have returned from a
week’s vacation in St. Croix.
Daniel Shreeve has returned home
from Central America and Mexico,
where he has been traveling and working
since January.
