the Rensselaer Medal as the outstanding
junior in mathematics and science.
Miss Patricia Corley, daughter of

Street, was recently named National
Honor Pledge of Sigma Sigma Sorority at
Concord College, Athens, W. Va.
Miss Maria Paraschos, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Elias Paraschos of Wiggins
Avenue, and Miss Joanne Kentoffio,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Kentoffio of Log Road, are two graduates
of Ithaca College, Ithaca, N.Y. awarded
Bachelor of Science degrees in speech
pathology and audiology at the college’s
76th commencement exercises May 15.
Arthur W. (Bill) Egan Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Egan of Daisy Street, received
his B.A. degree from Syracuse University
June 5, and the day before graduation
was commissioned a second lieutenant
in the Air Force Reserve after four years
in ROTC. Bill was named outstanding
fraternity man of the year. He was
president of Pi Kappa Alpha.
Marine First Lieutenant Jeffrey C.
Coon of New Jersey Avenue, Bellport,
has returned to the Marine Corps Air
Station, Beaufort, S.C., with Marine
Fighter Attack Squadron 251 after
participating in a training exercise at
Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico.
Mrs. Elizabeth Arthur of Bell Street and
her great-granddaughter, Debbie, have
returned from three weeks’ vacation
in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas Valentine and Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Todd. In Stuart they were guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Hull.
Theodore T. Everitt of South Howells
Point Road attended his 50th class reunion
at Wesleyan University, Middletown,
Conn., over the weekend. His class of
1921 won the attendance award for having
the most members at Alumni Weekend.

Josette Marie Mondanaro, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Mondanaro of
Oakwood Street, Blue Point, has earned
the right to the letters M.D. behind her
name. A 1963 graduate of James Wilson
Young High School, Bayport, she received
her M.D. on May 30 from State University
Upstate Medical College. Dr. Mondanaro
will intern at San Francisco Children’s
Hospital.

aboard the destroyer USS Vogelgesang.

Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Agostinello of Patchogue
announce the engagement of
their daughter, Miss Laureen Hollins, to
Joseph Cardamone, son of Mrs. Carmella
Cardamone of Patchogue. Miss Hollins,
a graduate of Patchogue High School, is
employed by Rose Jewelers of Patchogue.
Mr. Cardamone, also a Patchogue High
graduate, is in the employ of L. Mott
and Sons. No date has been set for the

The Patchogue Recreation Department
held its annual spring Downhill
Derby last Saturday at the Rider Avenue
Park. Trophy winners were Bill Terry, Al
Jimenez and Ray Reilly.
Edward A. Knobler of Ketcham Avenue
was one of more than 400 students who
graduated from Gettysburg College, Gettysburg,
Pa., on June 6. He received a
B.A. degree, majoring in business administration.
Miss Carole DiTosti, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Carl DiTosti of Waverly Avenue,
graduated cum laude from the State University
at Albany, receiving a Bachelor
of Arts in English. She is continuing
with graduate work at the same university.

Mary Immaculate Rosary Altar Society’s
annual Communion Dinner at the Bellport

Mr. and Mrs. Verne Critz Sr. of Hedges
Road have returned home after spending
two weeks in Ashland, Wis. While
there they attended the wedding of their
son, Verne Jr., to Julee Ann Becker, and the
graduation of Verne and Julee Ann from
Northland College.
The South Country Lions Club of East
Patchogue was presented with the Lions
Club Outstanding Achievement Award
for the year 1970-71. The award, with the
flag stand of 109 nations representing
unity in Lionism, was won in competition
with 69 other clubs in the Suffolk
County district. The award was presented
to the current president of the South
Country Lions Club, Vin Linsalato.
Miss Mary Borruso, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas Borruso of Bieselin Road,
Bellport, received her Bachelor of Arts
and Science degree from Adelphi College
in Garden City at commencement
exercises June 6. She will be a teacher
in the East Northport High School in
September.

The Village of Patchogue Recreation
Department celebrated the 14th birthday
of the Four Sisters Community Center
last Friday. The highlight of the
evening were presentations to Mayor
Robert T. Waldbauer and former Mayor
George Lechtrecker for their contributions
to recreation in the village.
Submarine operations have been
studied for the past two months by Navy
Seaman Apprentice Robert R. Hutton of
Patchogue, who graduated from the
Naval Submarine School at New London,
Conn.
Miss Helen Coyle, daughter of Mrs.
John Coyle of Mark Avenue, received
a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology
from the University of Missouri. She is a
graduate of Patchogue High School and
has been an active member of Stevens
College Dance School, Columbia, Mo.
She plans to attend graduate school in
the fall.
Miss Jill Susan Ingerman, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Max Ingerman of Howard
Street, has been accepted for the fall
term at the University of Bridgeport.
She plans to major in elementary education.

High School, she was a member of the
Leaders Club, the Chorus, was on the
yearbook staff and participated in intramurals.

June 12 in St. Francis de Sales
R.C. Church, Patchogue. Their reception
was at Land’s End, Sayville, and
they will make their home in Bristol,
Conn. Miss Van Doran is the former
Miss Marilyn Lange of Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard F. Belligan of Case
Avenue announce the engagement of
their daughter, Susan, to William Slovak,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis J. Slovak of
Rosedale Avenue, Medford. Miss Belligan
will graduate Sunday from Patchogue
High School. Mr. Slovak, a 1970
graduate of Patchogue High, will leave
in September for a four-year tour of
duty with the U.S. Navy. No date has
been set for the wedding.

of Patchogue has been meritoriously
promoted to his present rank on completion
of individual combat training
with the First Infantry Training Regiment
at the Marine Corps base, Camp
Lejeune, N.C.
Justin Gubbins of Sayville was the winner
for the third straight year of the
annual Cross Island Marathon Run last
Saturday, tri-sponsored by Patchogue
Jaycees, Village of Patchogue Recreation
Department and the Cavalier Athletic
Club. The 14-mile race started at
the corner of Nesconset Highway at
Route 112 and finished at Shorefront
Park in Patchogue. Gubbins’ time was
1:12:51.5, bettering his time of 1:13:24.6
last year. A total of 127 runners competed.
Airman 1/c Wesley Church Jr. of East
Patchogue is on duty at U-Tapao Airfield,
Thailand. He is an air operation
specialist.

awarded nursing scholarships to Suffolk
County Community College given
each year by the Brookhaven Memorial
Hospital auxiliary and volunteers.

his 9th birthday with a barbecue
supper Saturday. His guests were Andrew

and David Wasson. Later the boys went to
Malcolm Johnson’s house for archery and
croquet.
Graduating with honors is Airman
1/c Stephen C. Wiswall of Brookhaven,
who has completed a technical training
course for Air Force veterinary specialists
at Sheppard AFB, Texas. He has
been assigned to the tactical air command
hospital at Bitburg, Germany.

Mr. and Mrs. James Stumpo of Daisy
Street, Patchogue, celebrated their
25th wedding anniversary June 13 at
a surprise dinner given in their honor
at the 112 Lounge, Medford, by their
two daughters, Linda and Lorraine, and
Mrs. Stumpo’s sister, Mrs. Mary Peters.
Dinner and dancing were enjoyed by 60
guests, including their four other children,
Larry, Lisa, Robert and Stephen.
The couple is leaving shortly for a cruise
to the Bahamas.
Donald A. Aviano of Hallock Road has
been accepted for admission in the September
freshman class at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y. He is
majoring in biomedicine.
Miss Barbara Seiler of Patchogue was
given a surprise bridal shower by her
aunt, Mrs. John Vigiano of Deer Park.
Miss Seiler will be married Aug. 8 to
Anthony Melito of Patchogue.
Named to the Dean’s List at Bucknell
University, Lewisburg, Pa., was Miss Sharon
T. Gavin of Hayward Street. Miss Gavin
is in her junior year.
Serving in Vietnam is Navy Lieut.
Ralph Pierno of Patchogue. He is with
Helicopter Light Attack Squadron Three
at Binh Thuy Air Facility.
Reporting for duty at the oldest post of
the Marine Corps, the Marine Barracks,
Washington, D.C., is Sergeant Kenneth J.
Virgilio of Patchogue. He has seen service
in the Philippines.
Three local airmen, James R. Nejelski of
Bellport, Robert L. Dobson of Patchogue
and Peter E. Appel of Manorville, have
completed basic training at Lackland
AFB, Texas. All three are assigned to
Chanute AFB, Ill. Airman Nejelski will
receive training in aircraft maintenance,
Airman Dobson in aircraft equipment
maintenance, and Airman Appel will
train in the missile maintenance field.
Miss Kathy Colichio of Amsterdam Avenue,
East Patchogue, was surprised at a
bridal shower given in her honor by her
bridal party and aunts. A buffet supper
was held for 70 relatives and friends at
the Bellport Country Club. Kathy will
become the bride of Bruce Edward July 18.
Christine Temple, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Temple of Munsell Road,
won second prize in the Carvel Pony
Contest. Her prize was two tickets to the
rodeo at Madison Square Garden.
Mrs. Michael H. Goff of South Howells
Point Road, Bellport, and daughter,
Carlin, spent four days last week visiting
Mrs. Goff’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr.
and Mrs. Roger Hall of Francestown,
N.H. Mrs. Goff left Tuesday for a trip
to Nairobi, Kenya, India, Bangkok, Singapore,
Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and
Hawaii. She is accompanying a study
travel group sponsored by the Quakers.

discharged from the U.S. Army at Fort
Dix, N.J., June 23.

Mrs. Sylvia Greaves Norton of Beaver

a very enjoyable weekend at Wheaton
College in Norton, Mass., for a class
reunion.

School and associates of the
Bayport-Blue Point School District honored
Mrs. Dorothy Adams and Mrs. Sarah
Howard upon their retirement as teachers
in that district at a lunch at Land’s End
in Sayville on June 22.
