Mrs. Gene Goll of Medford Avenue,
Patchogue, has just returned from
Lancaster, Calif., where she visited her
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Goll, and her two grandchildren,
Cathy and Richie. While in Lancaster she
also paid a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Conklin, former Patchogue residents.
Miss Laureen Hollins of Shaber
Road was guest of honor at a surprise
bridal shower given for her Oct. 5 on
Sycamore Street by the Misses Sue Ann
Beck and Renee Hollins. Seated under
a white umbrella in a room decorated
with streamers and wedding bells, she
opened her many gifts in the presence of
60 guests. Miss Hollins will be married
to Joseph Cardamone of Patchogue Nov.
7 in St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church, Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. William E. Biggs of
Sterling Avenue, East Patchogue,
recently entertained at several goingaway
parties for their son, William (Buzz)
Biggs, who was awaiting induction into
the U.S. Navy. Having left Sept. 20, he
is now receiving boot training with
the Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
Miss Mary Lou Pausewang, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pausewang of Lee
Avenue, is currently performing with the
Ithaca College Madrigal Singers, who are
presenting Mendelssohn’s choral drama,
“Elijah,” tomorrow and Saturday. She is
a freshman drama major.
Mrs. Richard Gazzola of Bayview
Avenue, East Patchogue, was guest
of honor at a surprise baby shower,
given her by Mesdames Rose Ennis of
Patchogue and Mildred Romaine and
Joanie Berliner, both of Mastic, Friday
evening at the East Patchogue clubhouse.
A hot-and-cold buffet was served to 30 guests.
A new activity is being offered in the
Patchogue-Medford High School girls
intramural program. Beginning this
week, 20 sessions in “slimnastics” will
be conducted by Miss Kathy Timmins, a
member of the high school faculty. The
program will consist of muscle-toning
exercises and work on the universal
gym. Interest in the program appears to
be high, as 80 girls have enrolled in the program.
At Millington, Tenn., Marine Private
1/c Kenneth C. Randall, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Austin Randall of Lakewood Street,
Patchogue, whose wife is the former Miss
Lorraine Castellano of Patchogue, has
graduated from the Aviation Structural
Mechanics course at the Naval Air
Technical Training Center.
Newly wedded are Mr. and Mrs. Peter
Jacob Schmidt after a ceremony held
in St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church,
Patchogue, Sept. 11. Mr. Schmidt and
his bride, the former Miss Patricia
Linda Becht of Patchogue, went to
Pennsylvania for their wedding trip and
are residing in Patchogue.
Celebrating their golden wedding
anniversary Oct. 3 at the Bavarian Inn,
Lake Ronkonkoma, Mr. and Mrs. August
Hussmann of Hewlett Avenue, East
Patchogue, were hosts to 130 relatives,
friends and Mr. Hussmann’s coworkers
of the Island State Bank. A cocktail hour
was followed by a dinner, with dancing
and singing included in the evening’s festivities.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tuzza of Woodacres
Road, East Patchogue, celebrated the
first birthday of their son, Adam, at
their home Sunday with a buffet dinner
for about 30 guests.
Radar repairman is Airman 1/c Kevin
J. Nixon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Nixon
of Bourdois Avenue, Bellport, after
his graduation from the AF Technical
Training Center at Keesler AFB, Miss.
Graduating from recruit training
is Navy Seaman Apprentice David S.
Alicea, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesus Alicea
of Bellport Avenue, Bellport, having
received his training at the Great Lakes
Naval Training Center, Ill.
Dr. and Mrs. William Miller of
Brookhaven announce the engagement
of their daughter, Nan Leslie, to John
William Nichols, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Hal Nichols of Temple, Texas. A winter
wedding has been planned.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Worthington of
Barteau Avenue, Blue Point, had as
their houseguest last weekend Mrs.
Worthington’s mother, Mrs. Nugent.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Santucci of
Waverly Avenue, Medford, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Victoria,
to Ronald C. Stein, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Clifton Stein of West Sayville. Miss
Santucci, a 1968 graduate of Patchogue
High School, is studying to be a court
reporter. Mr. Stein is a self-employed
commercial fisherman. No date has been
set for the wedding.

Edward Maler, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Michael A. Maler Sr., of Jayne Avenue,
Patchogue, was recently named Student
of the Month by the Rotary Club of
Patchogue, and was hosted by the club at
a recent meeting.
Miss Helen B. Waisbrot, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Hyman Waisbrot of Lillian
Place, is one of 346 freshmen enrolled for
the fall term at Findlay College, Findlay,
Ohio.
A Patchogue luncheonette and a Blue
Point pizzeria were broken into during
the weekend. Police said a rear window
at Rocky’s Luncheonette at 278 West
Main Street, Patchogue, was broken
open during the early hours of Saturday
morning and various items and cash,
valued at about $140, were taken. Sonny’s
Pizzeria at 144 Montauk Highway, Blue
Point, was broken into, also through a
window, in the early Friday morning
hours. Police said a television set and
cash totaling about $138 were stolen.
Mr. and Mrs. Willis D. Calkins Sr., of
Pine Neck Avenue, East Patchogue, will
celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary
at a dinner at Pine Grove Inn tomorrow
with their son and daughter-in-law and
granddaughters, of Miller Place. Mr. and
Mrs. Calkins were married Oct. 22, 1911
in Oneonta, N.Y. and have resided at
their present address since 1955.
Harry D. Greenberg of Roe Boulevard is
one of more than 19,000 students enrolled
for the fall semester at Memphis State
University, Tenn.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. McMahon
posed for a wedding picture after their
ceremony, which took place Sept. 11
in St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church,
Patchogue. Mr. McMahon and his
bride, the former Miss Kathleen Mary
McGreevey of Patchogue, are living in
East Patchogue. Both are employed by
the New York Telephone Company.
Army Specialist 4 Raymond Teofrio,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Teofrio of
Lakewood Street, Patchogue, recently
was assigned to the First Cavalry
Division at Fort Hood, Texas. He is a
teletypewriter in Company 4 of the
division’s Thirteenth Signal Battalion.
Two Army privates, Donald M.
Shepherd Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Shepherd of Potter Street, Patchogue,
and John DiCarlo, son of Mrs. Michelina
DiCarlo of Lynbrook Drive, Mastic
Beach, have completed eight weeks of
advanced individual training as armor
reconnaissance specialists at the Army
Armor Center, Fort Knox, Ky.
A surprise bridal shower for Miss
Scarlett Richburg was held recently at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dominick
Satornino of North Donegan Avenue,
East Patchogue, parents of her fiancé,
Dominick G. Satornino. Highlight of
the evening was the appearance of the
bride-to-be’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Richburg, who flew in from Milton, Fla.,
for the occasion. Both Miss Richburg and
Mr. Satornino are students at Troy State
College, Ala.
Mrs. Andrew Underhill and son, Andrew
Jr., of Bellport, attended the meeting
of the Underhill Society of America in
Woodbury, Oct. 16. Andrew was elected
vice president. He is also editor of the
“New and Views,” a bulletin that comes
out twice a year.
Sunday night the Hearth Club enjoyed
a progressive visiting party. Members of
the club visited the four committeemen’s
homes, Mr. and Mrs. James Vaughn, Mr.
and Mrs. John Schinn, Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Ebersole and Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Edwards, chairmen of the event. A great
time was enjoyed by 34 members.
Miss Debby Sattler, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Sattler of Cedar Street,
Bellport, was crowned 1971 homecoming
queen of Concordia Teachers College,
River Forest, Ill., Oct. 8. Presently in her
senior year at Concordia, Miss Sattler
has a major sequence in music education.
Mr. and Mrs. John F. German were
married at an outdoor wedding Sept. 4.
Their wedding trip was to Virginia. Mr.
German and his bride, the former Miss
Kathy Ann Miller of Bellport, are living in
Brookhaven.

The Spanish Society of Suffolk
County will give a testimonial dinner
dance Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Galaxie
in Plainview, honoring Mrs. Lucy Cotto
as Beautician of the Year. Mrs. Cotto,
who owns and operates Lucy’s Beauty
Salon on East Main Street, Patchogue,
is the mother of two and her husband
is a bilingual teacher in the Patchogue-
Medford School District. Mrs. Cotto will
receive a plaque for her work in the field
of cosmetics, beauty and hairstyling.
The Cottos live in Medford.
Mr. and Mrs. Arie Van Kleef of River
Avenue, Patchogue, hosted a cocktail
party for 50 relatives and friends at their
home Oct. 9 in honor of their two sons,
Kevin, who has just returned from a
tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force in
Vietnam, and John, who is serving with
the U.S. Marine Corps and was home
on leave. Kevin, who has received his
discharge from the service, is now in
the employ of the Davey Tree Expert
Company. John has now left on a twoyear
tour of duty in Hawaii.
Mr. and Mrs. William Shaber of
Patchogue are pleased to announce the
birth of their first grandchild, Clark
James Gardner, born Oct. 8 to their sonin-
law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James
Gardner of El Dorado, Kan. Mrs. Gardner
is the former Miss Judith Shaber of
Patchogue.
Miss Judith Whitlock, a teacher
of eighth-grade mathematics at the
South Ocean Avenue Middle School
in Patchogue, recently completed a
National Service Foundation program
for junior high school mathematics
teachers at Central Connecticut State
College. Miss Whitlock was presented
a certificate by Clifford Bennett, South
Ocean Middle School principal.
A lovely bride posing with her husband
was Mrs. John F. Halliwell after their
marriage in the United Methodist Church
of Patchogue, Oct. 9. Their reception
was held at the Timber Point Golf and
Country Club and they went to Nassau,
the Bahamas, for their wedding trip. Mr.
Halliwell and his bride, the former Miss
Patricia C. Balfe of Patchogue, are at
home on Durkee Lane, East Patchogue.
Two new members of Patchogue
Rotary Club were introduced at last
week’s meeting: Randy Hudson of
Holbrook, town industrial commissioner,
and Phil Liguori Jr. of Patchogue, owner
of Contract Cleaning Company.
At Ocean Station Delta in the North
Atlantic is Coast Guard Chief Petty
Officer Thomas J. Reidy, son of Mr. and
Mrs. James Reidy of Conklin Avenue,
Patchogue. He is aboard the Coast Guard
Cutter Escanaba, approximately 13,000
miles east of Cape Cod, Mass.
Completing an aircraft maintenance
course is Navy Airman Gary J. Hunter,
son of Mr. and Mrs. James Hunter of
Donegan Avenue, East Patchogue, while
stationed at the U.S. Naval Station,
Jacksonville, Fla.
Robert Werner, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Werner of General McLean Drive,
Bellport, celebrated his 12th birthday
Oct. 25 with several of his friends. They
went to the Vanderbilt Museum and
Planetarium in Centerport and stopped
for lunch along the way.
Miss Elizabeth Winsche, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Winsche of Shore
Road, has been named to the Dean’s
List at Boston University for the spring
semester of 1971. Elizabeth is a senior
and is majoring in English.
Girl Scout Troop 1281 took a tour of
WALK Radio station, Monday, Oct. 25.
The troop wishes to thank Mrs. Leo
Armstrong, Mr. Kenneth Herzog and Mrs.
Ronald Wilt, who helped transport them
to the radio station.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pizzo of Head
of the Neck Road celebrated their 5th
wedding anniversary Oct. 23. They went
to dinner at the Gateway in Huntington.
Joining them were Mr. and Mrs. August
Waldron, Mr. and Mrs. David Waldron,
Miss Joanne Waldron and Mr. Richard
Pitka.
Appointed recently to the post of
Brookhaven Hamlet postmaster, Mrs.
Frances E. Sands has taken up her duties.
She joined the postal service in 1960 as a
mail clerk. She was born in Long Island
City and is a resident of Shirley. Mrs.
Sands’ appointment is the first from the
postal career service in the history of the
Brookhaven post office.

Three local music students at Ithaca
College, Ithaca, N.Y., Miss Jean Wagner,
Miss Mary Lou Pausewang and Miss Mary
Jo Gallo, are listed as participating in
on- and off-campus performances of the
college. Miss Wagner, a senior, is playing
the flute in the school’s concert band.
Miss Pausewang, a drama freshman,
and Miss Gallo, a music freshman, are
members of the college chorus.
Perhaps the largest bluefish of the
season, a fish that weighed 21 pounds
20 hours after it had been boated, was
caught by John Clemente Jr., 13, of
Harris Street, Patchogue, at Stratford
Shoals, Port Jefferson, last Saturday. The
huge fish measured 39 inches and John’s
happy father indicated it certainly lost
some ounces between the time of its
capture and the time it went on the scale.
John and his father weighed the fish
Sunday, because it was too late when
they returned to the harbor Saturday
in their Boston Whaler trailer boat. The
senior Clemente added that the fish was
one of 10 trolled on surgical tubes, and at
least five qualified as giants.
Nolan’s (7-1) and Salty Dog (6-2)
remained one-two in the Village of
Patchogue Recreation Department men’s
touch football league standings, with
both teams scoring wins last week to just
about eliminate any chance defending
champion Cavalier A.C. had in regaining
the title for the fourth straight year.
For Nolan’s against Southold, Gary
Rooney tossed for four touchdowns, two
to George Roe. In the Salty Dog game
against Chaucer’s Ale House, Roy Mott
scored the two touchdowns on passes of
32 and 18 yards from Dom Mercurio.
It was an important day for two Boy
Scouts as they received their Eagle
rank at a Court of Honor held at the
Congregational Church, Patchogue, Oct.
26. They two boys were Gerald F. Smith,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl G. Smith of
Roe Avenue, East Patchogue, and Philip
Borzi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Borzi
of Case Avenue, Patchogue. Gerald is in
ninth grade at the Saxton Avenue Middle
School and Philip is a freshman at Seton
Hall High School.
East Patchogue School had its annual
Halloween Parade last Friday. Winners
for the most original costumes were:
Gary Belford, kindergarten; Alicia
Canary, first grade; Phyllis Saueracker,
second grade, and Julius Nelson, third
grade.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce J. Edwards were
married July 18 in St. Joseph the Worker
R.C. Church, East Patchogue. After
receiving their guests in the Knights of
Columbus Hall, Patchogue, the couple
went to the Poconos for their wedding
trip. Mr. Edwards and his bride, the
former Miss Kathy Colichio of East
Patchogue, are at home in Patchogue.
The bride is employed with the Long
Island Lighting Company. Bridegroom,
serving with the Air National Guard,
works at the Westhampton Air Force
Base.
Miss Agnes Toronto, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Toronto of
Champlin Avenue, Bellport, has received
her Master’s diploma from Adelphi
University in Garden City.
Just returned from a more-than twoweek
motor tour through the South
is Mrs. Elmer W. Leanhard of Bellport
Lane, together with her sister, Mrs.
Pauline Seymour of Montreal, Quebec.
Mrs. Leanhard visited friends in North
Carolina, Georgia and Mobile, Ala.
Nancy Kirchgessner, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Leo Kirchgessner of Horseblock
Road, celebrated her 12th birthday last
Friday with a slumber birthday party at
her home. The guests included Debbie
Brouwer, Tina Tutino, Susan Schumann,
Gail Dayton, Kathy Gordon, Lisa Curiale,
Jean Bookless and Coleen Michael.
Airman Jonathan O. Allen, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence H. Allen of
New Jersey Avenue, Bellport, having
completed basic training at Lackland
AFB, Texas, has been assigned to Keesler
AFB, Miss., for training in the traffic
control field.
