Susan St. Angelo, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Michael St. Angelo of Bay Avenue,
Patchogue, and Alan Sanders, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Sidney Sanders of Chestnut
Avenue, Patchogue, are the Patchogue-
Medford High School Rotary Students
of the Month for April. Susan has been
accepted for admission at the College of
St. Rose and Eastern Michigan. She plans
to train for special education teaching.
Alan has chosen to attend American
University in Washington, D.C. He
plans to major in political science in
preparation for law school.
Paul E. Hauser Jr., a senior at Seton Hall
High School, Patchogue, has been named
recipient of the Williams Scholarship
at the University of Richmond. The
competitive scholarship carries a grant
of $5,000. Young Hauser will be attending
Richmond College, one of the schools
of the university. He will study social
sciences in preparation for law school.
Paul is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Hauser of Walnut Avenue, Patchogue.
He has two sisters, Kathleen and Holly.
Nicholas DePaolo of Manorville
parked his 20-foot boat at the Patchogue
Sandspit at 5 p.m. last Wednesday. When
he returned at 7:30 Thursday morning, it
was gone, along with its 50-horsepower
Mercury engine. The homemade boat,
black with a blue bottom, plus engine,
are valued at $1,800. But this story has
a happy ending. Police report it was
recovered at Heckscher State Park.
Returning home after enjoying a twoweek
vacation in Miami, Fla., are Mr.
and Mrs. Ed Carr of Munsell Road, East Patchogue.
Attending the American Physical
Society meeting in Washington, D.C., for
five days were Mr. and Mrs. George Dell of Munsell Road.
Mr. and Mrs. Al Tripodi of Dunton
Avenue have returned home after
spending three days at the Palm Springs
Spa in Palm Springs, Calif., and four
days at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas,
Nev. While in Palm Springs they visited
Disneyland and spent a day with Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Vargas of Escondido,
Calif., whom they had not seen in nine
years. Mr. Tripodi and Mr. Vargas were
stationed together at an Army base in Washington.
A surprise bridal shower was held
Friday night at the Polish Hall in
Patchogue for Miss Virginia Salvemini of
Clinton Street, given by her matron of
honor, Mrs. Bella Root of Roslyn Court.
Mr. and Mrs. Vito Linsalato, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Gazzola, Mr. and Mrs. William
Gazzola, Mr. and Mrs. Justin Spisto and
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tortorella represented
the South Country Lions Club at a
testimonial dinner dance in honor of
Edward A. Meinhold, outgoing district
governor of Suffolk County Lions Club.
Mr. Linsalato was given a plaque for his
efforts as zone chairman.
Miss Terri Felder of Taylor Avenue has
been selected to represent Bellport High
School on the Abraham & Strauss Teen
Fashion Board for 1972-73. She recently
played the role of Anita in “West Side
Story” at the school.
Mr. and Mrs. Ignatius Robert Diecidue
of George Court, Bellport, were
entertained at a surprise 25th wedding
anniversary party in Norristown, Pa.,
at the Jefferson House Restaurant. Mr.
and Mrs. Steve Soldano, parents of Mrs.
Diecidue, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard E.
Johns of Norristown hosted the party
of over 50 relatives and friends. Mr. and
Mrs. Diecidue’s children presented them
with a money tree and a 12-place setting
of sterling silverware.
A wedding ceremony took place on
Easter Sunday at St. Joseph the Worker
R.C. Church, East Patchogue for Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Adams. Mr. Adams and
his bride, the former Miss Patti-Jean
Rowland of Bellport, are residing in
Bellport. The bride is employed as a
laboratory technician. The bridegroom
is an industrial arts teacher in the
Lindenhurst School system.
Mrs. John Herrera and children, Ann
and Louise of Baycrest Lane, and Mrs.
Michael McKeown and children, Chris
and Kim of Brookhaven, toured the New
England states last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Larsen of Brookhaven
celebrated their 15th wedding
anniversary last Friday.

Sergeant James Pew of the U.S. Air
Force, who lives with his wife, Linda, and
son, Jimmy, on Oak Street, Patchogue, has
been named to the Honor Roll at the New
England Aeronautical Institute Aerospace
Education Center at Pease AFB. The
sergeant, who has three college credits to
his name, is taking 24 courses at the base
in aviation technology.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacinto Sbani of Liberty
Street celebrated their 25th wedding
anniversary on April 20 at a party given
them April 23 at the Polish Hall on Falcon
Avenue by their children, Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Sbani, and Laura, Susan, Timothy,
Billy and Chris Sbani. Also present was
Mr. and Mrs. Sbani’s granddaughter,
Angela, 3-month-old child of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sbani.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Marshall of North
Ocean Avenue had their two sons, Wallace
Frank, 4, and James Austin, 2, baptized
at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church April 29.
The godparents were Mr. and Mrs. Otto
Medeck of Blue Point.
Miss Jean Wagner, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Wagner of Walnut Avenue,
who is in her senior year at Ithaca College,
performed April 29 at a student recital
held in the college’s Walter Ford Hall. Miss
Wagner, who played the flute, is a music major.
Donald Husmann, son of former
Patchogue residents Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Husmann, has recently been promoted to
the rank of captain in the United States
Naval Reserve. Capt. Husmann, married
to the former Miss Anna Romeo, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Romeo of East
Main Street, Patchogue, graduated from
Patchogue High School in 1948. Capt. and
Mrs. Husmann and their four daughters
live in Lexington, Mass.
Happy couple were Mr. and Mrs. James
Koronkiewicz on their wedding day, April
30. The ceremony took place at Our Lady of
Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, Patchogue. The
bride, the former Miss Bernadette Cogliano
of Patchogue, is employed at MacArthur
Airport. The bridegroom is an accountant
at the Union Savings Bank of Patchogue.
They are residing in Patchogue.
Three local men have enlisted at the
Army Recruiting Station in Patchogue:
Michael Bielski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Bielski of Hamilton Street, Patchogue;
Louis Waters, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Waters of Don Street, East Patchogue,
and Matthew Fuhrmann, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Fuhrmann of Maple Avenue,
Bellport, all assigned to Fort Dix, N.J.,
for basic training. Recruit Bielski has
chosen a career that will guarantee him a
16-month stabilized tour with the famous
82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C.
Recruit Waters will train in the medical
care and treatment field, in conjunction
with Airborne training after basics at Fort
Dix. Recruit Fuhrmann will follow his
basics by training in medical care and
treatment at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. John Scandizzo of
Tremont Avenue, Medford, announce
the engagement of their daughter, Joan,
to Bruce Laakmann, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Laakmann of Patchogue. Both
Miss Scandizzo and Mr. Laakmann are
graduates of Patchogue High School. No
date has been set for the wedding.
Returning home April 29 on a National
Airlines flight from a one-week vacation
in Miami Beach, Fla., were Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Mendoza of Cedar Street, Bellport.
Kurt Rotzinger of General McLean Drive,
a sophomore at St. John the Baptist High
School, continues his winning ways with
track. He has run on victorious 880-relay
teams in dual meets against Maria Regina,
Holy Family and St. Agnes high schools. On
April 28 his 440-yard relay squad took fifth
at the Penn Relays with a school record of
45.0 seconds. The previous weekend they
won the event in the Queens-Iona Relays.
Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bergskaug
of General McLean Drive for several
weeks is their niece, Miss Kelly Collins of Eatontown, N.J.
On April 27, Brownie Troop 1383
participated in a “Bake-In” at the homes
of Mrs. Robert Temple, Mrs. Frank Tuzza,
Mrs. Paige Hunter and Mrs. Stanley Cox.
The girls all helped in baking cookies,
which were served at a tea yesterday for
their mothers in honor of Mother’s Day.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas LeBrun of North
Howells Point Road entertained relatives
and friends at a party in honor of their
son Richard’s First Communion at Mary
Immaculate Church on Saturday.
Patricia Emma, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Emma of South Brewster Lane,
made her Confirmation on Monday at St.
Joseph the Worker Church. Following the
ceremony the immediate family dined at Pine Grove Inn.
Cutting their wedding cake were Mr. and
Mrs. William Bradford Jensen after their
wedding April 16 in St. James Episcopal
Church, Brookhaven. The reception was
held at the Better ‘Ole in Brookhaven.
Mr. Jensen and his bride, the former Miss
Susanne Darmanin of Bellport, are residing in Brookhaven.

Air Force Sergeant and Mrs. Randolf
Maas of Spokane, Wash., former
residents of Patchogue, are the parents
of a baby girl, Charline Emily, born May
3 at the Air Force base in Spokane. Mrs.
Maas is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Pierno of Carman Street. Mr.
Maas is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Maas of Riverhead.
Miss Vikki Zegel, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Zegel of Case Avenue, was
among 142 senior women to receive
an A.B. degree Sunday from Trinity
College, Washington, D.C. Active in the
Glee Club and on the Religious Activities
Board and the Orientation Committee,
Miss Zegel was part of a special program
of individualized study and her field of
concentration was ethics and genetics.
She plans to remain in Washington to
work in Congress for the Hon. Otis G.
Pike.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Knukiewicz Jr.,
of West Medford, Mass., were weekend
guests at the home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Stanley Knukiewicz of Patchogue.
Mr. Knukiewicz Jr., a professional
photographer in Boston, was present
to photograph the joint installation of
Jayne Lattin VFW Post 2913 and its ladies
auxiliary, when his mother, Martha, was
installed as president-elect for 1972-73 of
the auxiliary.
Miss Cheryl Lynn Collins, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Collins of
Dogwood Lane, celebrated her Sweet 16
birthday with her family and friends at a
dinner held April 22 at the Bavarian Inn,
Lake Ronkonkoma. Among the 21 guests
present were her grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Luff of Patchogue and Mr.
and Mrs. Fremont Collins of Blue Point,
and her brother, Nick.
Daniel Edward Ashline, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Ashline of Taber Street, who
received his B.A. degree in psychology,
cum laude, from the State University
at Buffalo in December, was initiated
Saturday in the Omicron Chapter of Phi
Beta Kappa. He will attend graduation
ceremonies in June.
Marine Lance Corporal William J.
Welsh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick J.
Welsh of Prospect Avenue, Patchogue,
whose wife is the former Miss Diane F.
Andersen of Bay Avenue, Patchogue, has
graduated from the Non-Commissioned
Officers Academy at the Marine Corps
Base, Quantico, Va.
Mr. and Mrs. Vincent LaMonica of
Americus Avenue, East Patchogue,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Eileen, to Steven Garfen, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Garfen of Flushing.
Miss LaMonica is a graduate of Bellport
High School and is a nurse at Glen Cove
Community Hospital. Mr. Garfen is an
employee of the New York Telephone
Company in New York City. The wedding
is planned for 1973.
Elaine Warner, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Warner of Bellport,
received her First Communion at Mary
Immaculate Church on Saturday, May 6.
A buffet supper was held for 40 relatives
and friends.
On May 6 Miss Shirley Carle was guest
of honor at a surprise bridal shower
given by Mrs. Carl Beckett of Taylor
Avenue, East Patchogue. A buffet
supper was served at the Beckett home
for 25 relatives and friends. There were
many gifts and a Wishing Well filled
with household gadgets. Miss Carle will
become the bride of Maurice Kemp Jr.,
on June 24.
Teddy Travis, son of Mrs. Lisa Travis of
Provost Avenue, is home from Fredonia
University for his summer vacation.
Brownie Troop 1383 held a Mother-
Daughter Tea at the Kreamer Street
Elementary School in honor of Mother’s
Day. A short play, “The Story of the
Sunbeams,” was performed by the
Brownies: Debbie Potten as the narrator;
Jennifer Lacks as Mother Sun; and Amy
Nathan, Diane Penny, Melinda Cox,
Pam Sands, Angela Hamilton and Anita
Wright as the Sunbeams. The girls all
presented their mothers with an orchid
donated by Bianchi’s Greenhouses of
East Patchogue. Cookies made by the
Brownies were served.
Jane Ellen Mullaney, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Mullaney of South
Howells Point Road, graduated from the
Chandler School for Women in Boston,
Mass., on Sunday.
Bellport’s golf team came through with
victories in two matches, beating Port
Jeff, 7-2, and Newfield, 6-3. In the Port
Jeff match, Bellport’s best score was by
Tom Palace, with a two-over-par 34, John
Young with a 39, Bruce Palladino with a
35, while John Speirs, Chris Mirabelli and
Mike Palladino each had 40s.
