Alfred J. Chiuchiolo, president of the
Patchogue-Medford School District
Board of Education, recently presented
Teacher of the Year award to Raymond J.
Kennedy, head of the business education
department. Mr. Kennedy has served the
district for 35 years. The presentation
was made at the Patchogue Chamber
of Commerce dinner-dance held last
Thursday at Felice’s.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold G. Trabold of
Camille Avenue, East Patchogue,
celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary
Oct. 7 at the new Southampton Princess
Hotel in Bermuda, where they enjoyed a
week’s vacation.
Letters were mailed to the parents
of 757 students last week informing
them that Seton Hall High School will
graduate its last class in June 1974 and
then close its doors for good. Principal
Sister Mary Louise Brink, in her letter,
cited the continuing shortage of religious
personnel, increasing lay teachers’
salaries, mounting operating expenses,
plus the caring for retired nuns as
the reasons for forcing the closing of
the school located on Roe Boulevard,
adjoining Upper Patchogue Lake.
Mrs. Mary Imbesi of Patchogue wishes
to announce the engagement of her
daughter, Sharon, to Michael R. Maler,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Krapf of East
Patchogue. Miss Imbesi is a 1972 graduate
of Patchogue-Medford High School and
is employed at the Roe Agency, Inc.,
Patchogue. Mr. Maler, a 1971 graduate of
Bellport High School, attended Suffolk
County Community College, Selden. He
is now self-employed. No date has been
set for the wedding.
Coast Guard Commander William
Penney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Penney
of West Avenue, Patchogue, has been
reassigned to the Coast Guard Station
in Baltimore, Md. He will serve as the
station’s senior inspector personnel.
Maritime Corporal Stephen G.
Armstrong, son of Mrs. Anne L.
Armstrong of Swan River Street,
Patchogue, has reported for duty to the
Marine Corps base in Okinawa.
Patrice Famiglietti, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Michael J. Famiglietti of East
Patchogue, was among 67 sophomore
nursing students at Marymount College
of Virginia who were capped during
a recent candlelight ceremony that
climaxed Parents Weekend.
Mrs. Grace Schiro, David Rahm, Charles
Zavesky and Paul Alley, all of Bellport,
will be appearing in the Brookhaven
National Laboratory theatre group’s
next attraction, “Forty Carats.” The play
is directed by Bob Kinsey and produced
by Mrs. Rita Straub, both of Bellport.
Mrs. Marilyn Shellabarger of South
Country Road and Mrs. Phyllis Vineyard
of Brewster Lane returned Friday
after attending the annual Planned
Parenthood convention held in San
Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Vineyard was
elected to the National Board of Planned
Parenthood Federation of America at this time.
Mr. and Mrs. William Florio and
their daughter, Deborah, of General
McLean Drive and Miss Diane Cullen
of East Patchogue spent the Veterans
Day weekend visiting Tom Florio at
High Point College in High Point, N.C.,
and Billy Florio at Appalachian State
University in Boone, N.C.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sands Sr., and
their children, Thomas, Pam and Patti of
South Country Road, spent the weekend
visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Jess Hawkins of Croydon Flats, N.H.
The children enjoyed hiking and target shooting.
Mr. and Mrs. John T. Tuthill III of
South Country Road were recent guests
of President and Mrs. Nixon at a White
House reception for 100 publishers and
their wives. The guests came from all
parts of the nation. Prior to the reception,
the guests were briefed on foreign and domestic issues.

Mrs. Gus Caminiti of Bay Avenue,
Patchogue, just returned from an eightday
stay in Hawaii as the guest of her
sister, Miss Gene Sonsire of Brooklyn.
Stanley Wnukiewicz Jr. has completed
a six-week training period with the firm
of Pavelle of New York. He has been
residing with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Stanley Wnukiewicz of Washington
Avenue, Patchogue. He will be living in
Boston, Mass., covering the eastern part
of the New England states.
Harry Farides and John Pontieri, both
students at the State University of New
York, Oswego, recently participated in a
cooperative project involving elementary
school children and industrial arts
students from the college, teaching
technological concepts to 9- and 10-yearold
pupils. The two seniors built special
jigs and fixtures for the children.
Airman Ruthann E. Valenta, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Valenta of
Laurel Street, has been assigned to Lowry
AFB, Colo., after completing Air Force
basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas.
Airman Valenta will receive specialized
training as a supply specialist at the
technical center at Lowry. The airman
is a 1971 graduate of Patchogue High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Maniacci were
married Oct.1 at Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel R.C. Church, Patchogue. The
couple enjoyed a reception for 90 guests
at Felice’s of Patchogue. Bride is the
former Miss Karen Aviano of Patchogue.
The couple is now living in the Tiffany
Apartments on Maple Avenue.
Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Calfa of
Patchogue announce the engagement
of their daughter, Phyllis Elizabeth,
to Everett John McNally, son of Mrs.
Catherine McNally of Medford and the
late John McNally of Somers, N.Y. Miss
Calfa is a 1972 graduate of Patchogue
High School and is presently attending
Suffolk County Community College. Her
fiancé is a graduate of Patchogue High
School and attended Suffolk County
Community College. He is currently
employed at Norman King and Son
of Patchogue. A summer wedding is planned.
Sergeant George S. Duriwick of
Patchogue graduated from the U.S.
Air Force Noncommissioned Officer
Leadership School at Elmendorf
AFB, Alaska. Sgt. Duriwick is now
trained in military management and
supervision. He is a communications
wiring specialist in a unit of the Air
Force Communications Service which
provides global communications and air
traffic control for the USAF. He attended
Patchogue High School before entering
the Air Force in 1970.
Spending the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Walton Shreeve of Bellport Lane,
Bellport, were their son and daughterin-
law, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shreeve of Brooklyn.
Peggy Ann Wilson of Country Club
Road, Ann Quinn and Paul Quinn
of Bellhaven Road, and Sue Long of
Colonial Lane participated in a 20-mile
hike for the March of Dimes, starting at
the Southampton College and going east.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Klein Sr. and their
sons, James and Michael, of Country
Club Road, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert
McCleary of South Country Road recently
returned from a two-week vacation in
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Girl Scout Cadet Troop 1342 went to the
Bellport Museum Oct. 23. Following the
visit to the museum, Nancy Armstrong,
Patti Hermus, Janine Tinsley, Becky
Brown, Jeanne Cardamone, Michele
Wilt, Laura Penny, Donna Clifford and
Katrina Bergskaug went on a bike hike to
Southaven Park with their leaders, Mrs.
Walter Bergskaug and Mrs. Cornelius Clifford.

Chemistry students Abe Berger,
Frank Ruisi and Martin Reynolds gave
a demonstration of chemical reactions
to parents at Patchogue-Medford High
School recently. These students formed
an Alchemists Club with the aid of Daniel
Visconti, a chemistry teacher at the school.
Recent local weddings: Mr. and Mrs.
LeRoy Batorsky were married in a doublering
ceremony Oct. 22 at St. Francis de
Sales R.C. Church, Patchogue. Bride is
the former Miss Sandra Ann Pabst. Bride
and groom, both from Patchogue, are
now living in Sayville. Mr. and Mrs. Philip
Basile celebrated at a reception at the 112
Lounge in Medford after their wedding
ceremony Oct. 21. The couple took a
wedding trip to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas
and St. Johns and returned to make their
home in Patchogue. Mr. and Mrs. Martin
Wayne Jahn were married recently at
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church,
Patchogue. Bride is the former Miss Grace
Ellen Kahrs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Kahrs of Patchogue. Mr. and Mrs.
John Kattau were married Aug. 20 at St.
Francis de Sales R.C. Church, Patchogue.
The bride, a graduate of Bellport High
School, is the former Miss Helen Kathleen
Gallagher. Mr. Kattau works with the
New York Telephone Company. Mr. and
Mrs. Michael Dorrien were married Oct.
21 at the Mary Immaculate R.C. Church,
Bellport. The ceremony was performed
before 70 guests, who later joined the
couple at a reception at the Middle Island
Country Club. Bride is the former Miss
Theresa Vasquez, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Vasquez of East Patchogue. Mr.
Dorrien is the son of the John Dorriens
of Bellport. Mr. and Mrs. William Mayer
posed for a wedding picture after their
marriage Oct. 15 at St. Jude’s R.C. Church
in Mastic. Bride is the former Miss Marie
Trinceri, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Trinceri of Shirley. The couple is now living in Mastic.
In Patchogue Red Raider football
action, offensive players of the week
were Bob Leach, Rich Densing and John
Paradiso. Defensive players of the week
were Ron Leach, Don DeLaVergne and
Gary Fousek. The team has one more
chance to salvage one victory for the
1972 season this Saturday in a conference
crossover game against Sachem. In junior
varsity action, Patchogue won, 28-20.
Kevin Rooney scored three touchdowns
and Craig Kelsky the other.
Mary Jo Kranz, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Kranz of Champlain Road,
Bellport, celebrated her 8th birthday on
Sunday at a party in her honor for family and friends.
The Country Greens Drive Gourmet
Club held a Hawaiian dinner party on
Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Foxwell.
A dinner party was held on Friday
evening for the Bellport High School JV
soccer team and the JV cheerleaders at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Munson
of Bellport Lane.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Richardson of
North Howells Point Road held a family
dinner party at their home on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey Smith of Bellport
Lane recently returned from a 23-day trip
to Europe. Mr. and Mrs. Smith spent the
weekend at Salisbury School in Salisbury,
Conn., visiting their son, Hunter Smith,
who participated in the final football game.
A party was held at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. I.W. Bianchi Jr., of Bellport Lane on
Saturday to thank all the volunteers that
helped Mr. Bianchi with his successful
campaign and the celebration of Mr.
Bianchi’s birthday.

The Rev. Harry B. Sherman, rector of
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Rider
Avenue, Patchogue, was honored Nov.
15 in a celebration held at the church
commemorating his 10th year in the
priesthood. Before his ordination, Father
Sherman was an attorney. He has been
rector of St. Paul’s since 1968.
William H. Fadeley Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. William Fadeley of Pine Neck
Avenue, Patchogue, has been named
to Who’s Who Among Students in
American Universities and Colleges. Mr.
Fadeley is a senior at Jones College in
Jacksonville, Fla., majoring in business
management. He is a 1968 graduate of
Patchogue High School.
Mr. and Mrs. William L. Fichtner
Jr., posed for a picture recently after
their wedding. They were married in
Oceanside at the Lutheran Church. The
bride is the former Miss Anne Marie
Roeder of Oceanside. Bill is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. William L. Fichtner of Roe
Avenue, East Patchogue. The couple is living in Holbrook.
Navy Seaman Leslie R. Collins, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie R. Collins of
Schoenfeld Boulevard, Patchogue, is a
crewmember of the Little Creek, Va.

Moure County, which joined the Atlantic
Fleet Caribbean Amphibious Ready
Group, whose mission is to maintain
a state of readiness to support U.S.
interests in the Caribbean area.
Army Private Allen D. Newberg, son
of Mr. and Mrs. John Newberg of Risley
Road, Patchogue, recently completed
an eight-week metal body repair course
at the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and
School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.
He learned to repair and rebuild metal
body parts for wheeled and lightweight
tracked combat and tactical vehicles.
The soldier’s wife, Jan, lives on Race Avenue, Medford.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ward of
Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Patchogue,
have announced the engagement of their
daughter, Susan Gail, to Norman R. Reich
of Circuit Road, Bellport. Norman is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Reich
of Vernon Street, Patchogue. Both are
graduates of Patchogue High School.
Norman is presently employed by Reich
Bros., Patchogue. The wedding date is Dec. 24.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Q. Garrett have
announced the engagement of their
daughter, Jody Lynn, to Scott Lawrence
Pace, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon L.
Pace. Miss Garrett will graduate from
Patchogue High School this June. Her
fiancé is a 1971 graduate of Patchogue
High School and is presently attending
Oneonta State University, majoring in
psychology. No wedding date has been set.
Navy Seamen recruits Terry S.
Hutchins of Second Street, Bellport, and
Roger B. Greene of Circuit Road, Bellport,
graduated from recruit training at the
Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Ill.
Both recruits are graduates of Bellport
High School. Hutchins will report to
Radioman A School, San Diego, and
Greene is scheduled to go to Electronics
Technician School, Great Lakes.
Miss Laurel Sue Smith, daughter of the
Rev. and Mrs. Frederick Smith of South
Brewster Lane, is home from Fredonia
State College for her Thanksgiving vacation.
Lynn Stonebridge, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Stonebridge of General
McLean Drive, celebrated her 10th
birthday on Friday with a dinner party
with some of her friends. After dinner
the girls went to Brookhaven Lab Pool for swimming.
Mrs. Marilyn Kiley was surprised at a
baby shower given in her honor by Mrs.
Dorry Quappe Nov. 1 for many of her friends.
