Herbert E. Rowse, proprietor of
Rowse’s Bicycle Shop on East Main
Street, Patchogue, has probably
watched more local kids outgrow their
tricycles and training wheels than any
other bike dealer in the Patchogue
area. After 54 years in the bike
business and 22 years at his East Main
Street location, the silver-haired Rowse
announced he was retiring as of Jan.
31. Mr. Rowse said he plans to “visit
and travel a bit” but will always keep
Patchogue as his home.
Barbara Ann Logan, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert F. Logan of North
Ocean Avenue, Patchogue, has made
the Dean’s List for the fall semester
at Plymouth State College in New
Hampshire. Miss Logan is a sophomore
majoring in art education. She is a 1971
graduate of Patchogue-Medford Senior High School.
Sherry L. Clayman of Patchogue
graduated with a Bachelor of Science
degree in education this fall from
Concord College in West Virginia.
Joseph L. LaGrange, also of Patchogue,
was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concord.
Announcement has been made of
the engagement of Miss Marlayna Anne
Charif to Michael Joseph Bielski by her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Charif
of Patchogue. Miss Charif’s fiancé is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bielski,
also of Patchogue. Both Miss Charif
and Mr. Bielski attended Patchogue-
Medford Senior High School. Miss
Charif is presently studying for a
position as a medical assistant. Mr.
Bielski is serving with the U.S. Army as
a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne
Division station at Fort Campbell, Ky.
No date has been set for the wedding.
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in
Patchogue is planning an antique
show and sale for Feb. 24 and 25. The
committee in charge consists of Lily
Leach, Barbara Chester, Irene Johnson,
Marilyn Dunnigan, Sue Brinkman, Jean
Martens, John Chester, Ed Bailey and
the Rev. Harry B. Sherman.
Mr. and Mrs. Jakob Lundoy of
Farmingville have announced the
engagement of their daughter, Sonja, to
Scott Bowie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel
Bowie of Falcon Avenue, Patchogue.
Miss Lundoy is a graduate of Sachem
High School and is currently employed
by the Metropolitan Life Insurance
Company in Bohemia. Her fiancé is a
graduate of Patchogue-Medford High
School. He attended Luther College
and Concordia College in St. Paul,
Minn. He is currently employed by
American Automotive in Hauppauge.
An August wedding is planned.
Airman Dominick A. Scioli, son of
Mrs. Mary C. Scioli of Country Club
Road, Bellport, has completed Air Force
basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas.
The airman is remaining at the Air
Training Command base for specialized
training in the security police field.
Airman Scioli attended Bellport High
School. His father, Anthony A. Scioli,
resides in Farmingville.
Mr. and Mrs. Irving Coleman of Circuit
Road spent the weekend in Plattsburgh.
On Saturday they were guests at the
wedding of their nephew, David, to
Miss Brenda Blaise.
An engagement party was given by
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Turner of New
Jersey Avenue for their daughter, Miss
Debora Turner, and Louis Perino, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Perino Jr., of
North Howells Point Road. A buffet
supper was held for 35 relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Randy R. Phipps of Bacliff,
Texas, had their second child, Brandy
Liane, on Dec. 16 at Galveston County
Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Phipps is the
former Martha Scott of Bellport.
Linda S. Nystrom, a 1969 graduate of
Bellport High School, has completed
her studies at the State University
College at Plattsburgh. She graduated
Dec. 22 with a Bachelor of Science
degree in child-family services. Miss
Nystrom is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Edwin W. Nystrom, longtime
residents of Bellport and Brookhaven,
who are now living in Cincinnatus, N.Y.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stephani and
children, Tracy, Dwayne and Troy
of Old Stump Road, Brookhaven,
returned recently from a cross-country
car trip. The highlights of their trip
were the Grand Canyon, Disneyland
and the San Diego Zoo. While on
vacation Mrs. Stephani celebrated her
birthday on Jan. 20, Dwayne celebrated
his 10th birthday on Jan. 4 and Tracy
celebrated her 12th birthday on Jan. 11.
Playing this week at the Patchogue
Theatre: “The Hitchhikers”; at the
Plaza Theatre: “Play it as it Lays,” with
Tuesday Weld and Anthony Perkins,
and at the Rialto Theatre: Jim Brown in “Black Gunn.”
