On Saturday, May 5, the Lions Club
of Patchogue will “take over” radio
station WALK to raise funds for the
blind. “Listen in and discover what
real talent lies in our midst,” said Lions
president Dale Whitlock.
Kevin Rhodes, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph R. Rhodes of East Lakewood
Street, Patchogue, was one of 22
students named magna cum laude
graduates at the 1973 Senior Honors
Banquet at Haughton College in New
York. The banquet was held at the
Treadway Inn in Niagara Falls.
Married in Thailand Jan. 23 were
Sergeant and Mrs. Robert Gearity.
The bride is the former Miss Bonnie
Pronping of Hdorn, Thailand. Sgt.
Gearity is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Gearity of Avery Avenue, Patchogue.
He is stationed with the Air Force in
Thailand and will return to the United
States with his wife in June.
A barracuda caught off Marathon,
Fla., by Thomas Kehlenbeck of West
Woodside Avenue, North Patchogue,
weighed in at 22 pounds and will be
entered in the Patchogue Fishing
Club’s contest as a catch in non-local
waters. Tom and his wife, Barbara,
vacationed in Florida, and the catch
was made aboard Finest Kind, sport
fishing boat operated by captain Don
Braswell. The fish will be mounted
and placed above the mantel at the
Kehlenbeck home. It was caught on
light tackle using live balloa, which
Tom said resembles a tiny swordfish.
Army Specialist 4 David W. Smith, 21,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith of
Howell Street, Patchogue, participated
with some 15,000 American and Allied
Troops in Exercise Reforger IV in
Germany, Jan. 22-26. Spec. Smith is
regularly assigned as a truck mechanic
in Company B of the 1st Infantry
Division’s 701st Maintenance Battalion
at Fort Riley, Kan.
Married recently at the Mary
Immaculate R.C. Church, Bellport,
were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Peter
Becker. The bride is the former Miss
Barbara Ewington James of East
Patchogue. Following a wedding trip to
Manhattan, the couple has made their
home in Washington, D.C.
Michael Florio, son of Mr. and Mrs.
William Florio of General McLean
Drive, Bellport, is home from the
University of Brussels, Belgium, after
completing his first year. Returning
to High Point College after spending a
week with his parents is Tom Florio.
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Mehrman and
their son, John, of North Brewster
Lane spent one week visiting Mrs.
Mehrman’s sister and brother-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pritchard of
Clarksburg, W.Va.
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Hannon recently
moved from Browns Lane to their
new home on Bay Lane, Brookhaven.
Mr. and Mrs. Hannon are also proud
to announce the arrival of their first
child, Christopher Brian, on Monday
at St. Charles Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey L. Vaughan have
moved from Boonton, N.J. to Bellport.
Brownie Troop 1383 held their
weekly meeting March 28 at the
Kreamer Street Elementary School.
The monthly birthday celebration was
held at this meeting for Lori Kohler, Lori
Hupfer and Doreen Tuzza.
Mr. and Mrs. Everett S. Brown of
Bellport celebrated their 60th wedding
anniversary on March 25 at the Pine
Grove Inn, sharing the happy occasion
with their three sons, daughters-in-law
and all their grandchildren. Mr. Brown
is the founder of Brown’s of Bellport,
having started the business in March
1917. Brown’s is the popular American
Motors dealer in this area.

David Frail, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Frail of Grove Avenue, Patchogue, has
been awarded a Danforth Foundation
Fellowship for the 1973-74 school year.
Mr. Frail is a 1969 graduate of Patchogue
High School and currently a
senior at Boston University. The prestigious
fellowship is awarded to an outstanding
college senior or recent graduate
who plans to study for a doctorate
and enter a college teaching career.
Staff Sergeant Lawrence E. Puhls, son
of Mr. and Mrs. William G. Puhls of
Patchogue, is a member of a New Yorkbased
squadron that has received the
U.S. Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
Sgt. Puhls, a missile stems guidance
technician at Griffiss Air Force Base
with the 416th Airborne Missile Maintenance
Squadron, is a 1962 graduate
of Patchogue High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Salamone were
married recently at St. Francis de
Sales R.C. Church in Patchogue. After
an 11-day Caribbean cruise, the couple
will make their home in Patchogue.
Mrs. Salamone is the former Miss Margaret
Flanagan of Sayville.
Patchogue-Medford won its first
track meet of the season last Tuesday
against Bayport. Winners for the Raiders
were: Al Taylor, sprints; Ron Lum, shot
put and discus; Gary Fousek, high and
low hurdles; Tim Dowling, high jump;
Leroy Felton, triple jump, and two relays.
Miss Evelyn Diaz, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Luis Diaz of West Avenue,
Patchogue, will be married to Reinaldo
Santos in June. Mr. Santos is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Reinaldo Morales
of West Main Street, Patchogue. Both
are graduates of Patchogue-Medford
High School. Miss Diaz is presently
employed at Hunter’s Meadow in Patchogue.
Her fiancé works for U.S. Laminating
in Patchogue.
Navy Aviation Ordnanceman Harold
L. Barry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Lenz of Jennings Avenue, recently
received the Navy Achievement Medal
at the Pacific Missile Range. He was
cited for outstanding performance as
armament shop supervisor aboard the
aircraft carrier USS Hancock while on
deployment in the Western Pacific. He
joined the Navy in January 1958.
Celebrating her first birthday on
April 4 was Jennifer Lee Egler, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Egler of Bieselin Road,
Bellport, at a party given in her honor
with family and friends. Helping her
celebrate was her sister, Tracy.
Returning home on Sunday from a
10-day trip to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.,
were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Klein of Country
Club Road.
Mrs. Gill Faison of Country Greens
Drive and Mrs. Martha Denes of
Brookhaven attended the performance
of “Two for the Seesaw” in New York
City on April 4. After the performance
they dined at Monte’s restaurant in
Greenwich Village.
Joseph Rene, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Peter Rene of Maple Avenue, celebrated
his 12th birthday on Friday with
family and friends.
Marine Private Anthony Dunston, son
of Mrs. Florence Dunston of Barbara
Lane, Medford, graduated from
the Basic Warehousing course at the
Marine Corps Base at Camp LeJeune,
N.C. He joined the Marine Corps in
October 1972.

Miss Diane Hammer, a sophomore at
Otterbein College, Westerville, Ohio,
has been named to the Dean’s List
for the winter term. Miss Hammer
is majoring in psychology. She is the
daughter of Mrs. Audrey Hammer
of Oak Street and a graduate of Patchogue-
Medford High School.
Gus Poulos of Patchogue was recently
elected a vice president of the Union
Savings Bank of Long Island. Since
joining the bank in 1960, Mr. Poulos
has served as audit clerk, supervisor
of accounting, auditor and assistant
vice president.
Eli M. McCoy of Patchogue captured
a pair of first-place trophies Sunday
in the Connecticut Open State Karate
Championships. He is an instructor
at the Okinawan Karate Institute in
Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. Dominick Scuteri were
married recently at the Middle Island
Country Club. Following a wedding
trip to Florida, the couple has made
their home in Shirley. The bride is
the former Miss Doreen Lamata of Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. Adam Dobzeniecki of
Orchard Road, East Patchogue, have
made known the engagement of their
daughter, Susan, to Joseph Gonnelly, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gonnelly of
Taylor Avenue, East Patchogue. Both
are graduates of Bellport Senior High
School. Susan is employed by the Credit
Bureau Inc. in Patchogue. Her fiancé
is employed by the Bellport Animal
Hospital. No date has been set for the
wedding.
Paul Sparrow, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Arnold Sparrow of Leisurely Lane,
Bellport, is home from Stony Brook
University for his spring vacation.
Two nationally known New York
decorators, Dick Ridge and Lafe Hill, will
open Bellport House Ltd., an antique
gift interior decorating shop at 164
South Country Road, Bellport, on May
1. The decorators will sell everything
from fine antiques and gifts to cooking
accessories for the kitchen.
Mrs. Tillie Goodenough of Michigan
Avenue celebrated her birthday on
Saturday with a party for family and
friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Paige of Gerard
Street spent one week skiing at Snowmass
in Aspen, Colo. Their son, Lee,
who is attending the University of Colorado,
joined his parents at Snowmass.
Kim Kemp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Allan R. Kemp of Rogers Avenue,
returned recently from a special twoweek
St. Paul’s School field hockey
trip to England. The team remains
undefeated with a 4-0-1 record earned
during the five-match tour. St. Paul’s
School is located in Concord, N.H.
Airman Philip J. Wohr, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Erwin A. Wohr of Yaphank, has
been assigned to Chanute Air Force
Base, Ill., after completing Air Force
basic training.

Dorothy J. Delaney, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Delaney of Patchogue,
was recently named to Who’s Who
Among Students in America’s Junior
Colleges. Miss Delaney, a graduate of
Patchogue-Medford High School, is
presently a student at Herkimer County
Community College in New York.
The Patchogue Chamber of Commerce,
celebrating its 50th year,
welcomed a new enterprise of Hada
Enterprises Ltd., Homestead Foods,
distributors of frozen convenience
foods, as a new member. They have
begun operations from their warehouse
on Station Road, Bellport.
Miss Nancy Petrallia and Paul Graniello,
both of Patchogue, were married
April 15 at St. Francis de Sales R.C.
Church, Patchogue. A reception followed
at Felice’s of Patchogue, after
which the couple took a wedding trip
to Aruba in the Caribbean. Mr. and
Mrs. Graniello are both graduates of
Patchogue High School and are making
their home in Patchogue. Mrs.
Graniello is teaching first grade at the
Eagle Drive School in Patchogue. Her
husband served three years in the U.S.
Marines, including a tour of duty in
Vietnam. He is presently employed by
Solvent Finishes in Plainview.

portrait of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Gibbons, who were married April 7 at
St. Joseph the Worker R.C. Church,
East Patchogue. The couple took a
cross country wedding trip to make
their home in Vista, Calif. The bride is
the former Miss Noreen Malkiewicz of
East Patchogue.
Recently promoted Airman First
Class Glen H. Leonard, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Roy F. Leonard of Roosevelt
Boulevard, East Patchogue, has been
named outstanding airman in his unit
at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. Airman
Leonard, a supply specialist, was
selected for his exemplary conduct
and duty performance.
Recently returning from an eightday
trip to the Netherlands and
England were Mrs. E.W. Leanhard of
Bellport and Mrs. Philip Hulse Sr., of
East Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Veitch of North
Howells Point Road, Bellport, entertained
on Easter Sunday Mrs. Veitch’s
sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Petoello and children of Roe
Avenue and her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
William Kelly of Patchogue.
Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Robert Temple
of Fairway Drive for a few days was
Miss Agnes Shine of Flushing.
Mrs. Mary Schmidt of Country Club
Road has announced the engagement
of her daughter, Roberta Ann, to Lawrence
Peter Onufrak of Lake Ronkonkoma.
Miss Schmidt is a graduate of
Bellport High School and is attending
Pilgrim State Hospital School of Nursing.
Her fiancé is the manager of the
Genovese Drug Store in Lindenhurst.
The wedding is set for next spring.
Mr. and Mrs. Roland F. Smith of
Station Road, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold
Sparrow of Leisurely Lane and Mr.
and Mrs. Leonard Wood of South Howells
Point Road went to New York City
on Monday for dinner and to see the
performance of “Sugar.”
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sparta of
Cedar Street celebrated their 35th
wedding anniversary on Sunday.
Two area residents are members of
a unique student-financed and operated
ambulance service at the State
University College at Oswego. They
are Paul Smith of Rebel Drive, Blue
Point, and David Quarltere of North
Howells Point Road, Bellport. Called
SAVAC—Student Association Volunteer
Ambulance Corps—the group
serves both the campus community
and the surrounding area community.
Both Smith and Quarltere are
currently trainees for SAVAC and are
freshmen biology majors at Oswego.
