The Key Club of Patchogue-Medford
High School will be sponsoring a Bikea-
thon to be held May 19 for the benefit
of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital.
Leaders expect that as many as 300
riders will take part in the 20-milelongevent.
Students at the Oregon Avenue
Middle School who won a poster
contest sponsored by the school’s
library media center are Thomas
Catterson, Mike Minn, Pam LaGuidice
and Sandy Loftus. The contest was
held to promote National Library Week
and NYS Library Media Day.
Mrs. Claire Meyer, vice president
of the Patchogue-Medford Board
of Education, has announced her
candidacy for a third term of office.
Happy newlyweds are Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Francis Whipple, who were
married recently at St. Francis de
Sales R.C. Church in Patchogue. The
bride is the former Miss Mary Ann
Stuzenske. The couple is making their home in Albany.
A celebration took place honoring
the occasion of the golden wedding
anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Moger of Patchogue. They were
married on April 19, 1924. After a
wedding trip to New York City and
Washington, D.C., the Mogers lived on
East Main Street, Patchogue, with the
groom’s parents until their new home
on Medford Avenue was completed.
In 1953 they moved into their present
home on Jayne Avenue. Mr. Moger is a
well-known electrical contractor.
Miss Jo Anne Jastrow, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Julius Jastrow of Maple
Avenue, Patchogue, was honored for
her academic excellence at Arizona
State University, May 1, at a special
honors convocation. Jo Anne is
a junior in the College of Business
Administration majoring in marketing.
The Patchogue Red Raiders extended
their baseball winning streak to eight
games Monday, when they struck out
Smithtown East, 2-0, at home. A twohit,
15-strikeout day for Raider pitcher
Al Willett was the highlight of the game.
Gus Costanzo of Bellport recently
returned from a two-month vacation
in Boynton Beach, Fla. He visited with
his niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Shanley.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Fuoco and Mrs.
Antoinette Fuoco recently attended the
50th wedding anniversary celebration
of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Geruso of Darien, Conn.
Mr. and Mrs. H. Fletcher Bedell and
their children Brian and Amy, and Billy
and Anthony Graves, John Kusa and
John Meyer, all of South Howells Point
Road, planted 1,000 black pine trees
on Saturday at Smith Point County
Park on Fire Island. This project was
sponsored by the Great South Beach
Mobile Sport Fisherman Club.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ostermann of
Blue Point announce the engagement
of their daughter, Mary Theresa, to
Lewis Brunnemer, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Lewis Brunnemer of Blue
Point. Miss Ostermann graduated
from the State University at Stony
Brook in December and is currently
employed as an elementary teacher
in the William Floyd School District.
Upon graduation from Stony Brook in
June, Mr. Brunnemer will attend the
University of Vermont, where he has
been awarded a fellowship in English.
No date has been set for the wedding.
Marine Lance Corporal Anthony
Dunston of Barbara Lane, Medford,
was promoted to his present rank
while serving with the Third Marine
Division at the Marine Corps Base in Okinawa.
Marine Lance Corporal Lance D.
Armstrong, whose wife Diana is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George M.
Gaber of Acorn Avenue, Medford, has
reported for duty at the Marine Corps
Base at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Airman Daniel R. Sherry of Barton
Avenue, Patchogue, has graduated
at Sheppard AFB, Texas, from the
U.S. Air Force aircraft mechanics
course conducted by the air training
command. The airman, who learned
to maintain and service turbo-prop
aircraft, is being assigned to Eglin
AFB, Fla., for duty with a unit of
the Tactical Air Command. Airman
Sherry attended Patchogue High School.
Mimi Fine, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Fine of Barton Avenue,
Patchogue and a junior at Simmons
College, Boston, has been selected to
be a student advisor in her dormitory
for the 1974-75 academic year.
Mrs. Joyce Turner of Maple Avenue,
Patchogue, has been selected by the
Spanish Society of Suffolk County as
Mother of the Year. Mother of three
children, she is currently the assistant
principal of Brentwood South Junior
High School and serves with many
community organizations.
Paul W. Roman Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Roman of Everett Street,
has been admitted to the Pennsylvania
State Bar Association. Mr. Roman
is employed by the law firm Dickie,
McCamy and Shellcote in Pittsburgh.
Kathleen J. Beaver of Patchogue was
named to the Dean’s Honor Roll for
the winter semester at Adams State
College of Colorado.
Hospitalman Apprentice Sheryl L.
Wnenta, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John G. Wnenta of Railroad Avenue,
Patchogue, has completed the Navy
Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, Ill.
Miss Kathy Solano, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Matthew Solano of Neptune
Avenue, Patchogue, was one of 50 girls
selected recently to take part in the
quarter-final tryouts for the Olympic
Women’s Basketball team. She is a
senior at Patchogue-Medford High
School and has been captain of the
championship girls’ basketball team
for the past two years.
Airman Robert Campbell, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Woodrow Campbell of Valley
Road, Patchogue, has completed Air
Force basic training at Lackland
AFB, Texas. He will remain at the air
training command base for specialized
training in the security police field.
Airman Campbell is a 1973 graduate
of Patchogue-Medford High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Francis E. Titus of
South William Street, East Patchogue,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Eleanor, to David J. Leo,
son of Mrs. Emma Leo of Roberts
Road, Shirley. Miss Titus is a senior
at Bellport High School. Mr. Leo is
employed by Therm-a-Trol of Blue
Point. An autumn 1975 wedding is planned.
Mr. and Mrs. Clem Ward of Lyman
Road, East Patchogue, have returned
home after spending a few winter
months in Florida.
Theodore Travis of Bellport was the
featured tenor in a recent concert by
the Fredonia College Choir delivered
at the Trinity Episcopal Choir of
Buffalo. Mr. Travis sang, “Three
Quartets, Opus 64” with the choir.
Mr. and Mrs. Frederick C. Kromhout
of Livingston Road, Bellport,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Denise, to Phillip Stevens
Durinick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo
Durinick of Sharon Drive, Patchogue.
John and Thomas Garguilo, twin
sons of Mr. and Mrs. John Garguilo
of Country Club Road, received their
first Holy Communion on Saturday
at St. Joseph the Worker R.C. Church.

Saturday in their honor.
Constance Cummings, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Cummings
of Point Road, Bellport, is one of 25
members of Delta Zeta sorority at
Westminster College, Pa., to take part
in a simulated English Channel swim
for charity Saturday.

Airman First Class Steven A.
McCormick, son of Mrs. Muriel
McCormick of Patchogue, has been
promoted to the rank of sergeant. He
is stationed at an Air Force base in the Philippines.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wecera of
Washington Avenue, Patchogue,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Melody Jane Wecera, to
Donald George Randazzo, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Randazzo of Stony
Brook. Miss Wecera is a 1973 graduate
of Patchogue-Medford High School
and is presently employed by the IRS
of Holtsville. Mr. Randazzo is a 1973
graduate of Ward Melville High School
and is employed by Bright Bay Mercury

is ranked No. 1 in Suffolk County.

and Cynthia P. Wood, daughter of Mr.

BS in American studies – elementary education.
Navy Seaman Frank L. Reiss III,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Reiss
II of Thornhedge Road, Bellport, has
reported for duty at the Naval Air
Station in Brunswick, Me.
Miss Susan E. Barry, daughter of
Dr. and Mrs. Francis Barry of South
Country Road, Bellport, will be among
33 Skidmore College seniors majoring
in nursing who will receive their
nursing pins Saturday in ceremonies at
Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

of Commerce’s Salute to Mother’s
Day contest will be awarded a trip
by chartered bus to Jones Beach
Theatre to see “Fiddler on the Roof,”
preceded by a buffet dinner at Felice’s
of Patchogue on July 2. Local area
winners include: Rhea Berman, Edith
Eppelsheimer, Mrs. M. Hanlon, Eileen
Keddy, Antonia Rodriguez, Grace

Miss Betsy Sanchez, a resident
of Patchogue and a sophomore at
Patchogue-Medford High School, is
running for 1974 queen of the Spanish
Society of Suffolk County. Coronation
of the queen will be on June 15 in
the Knights of Columbus Hall in Patchogue.
George W. Spiro, son of Mr. and Mrs.
G. Spiro of Gillette Avenue, Patchogue,
has graduated from Syracuse Law
School with a Juris Doctor degree.
He has accepted an appointment as
assistant professor of law at Kent
State University in Ohio. Rochelle G.
Spiro, his sister, has graduated from
Syracuse University with a BFA
degree in synaesthetic education. She
has a fellowship for graduate study
in art at the University of Georgia in
September. Both are graduates of the
Patchogue-Medford School District.
Ashley Aiken’s fourth-grade class of
the Medford Avenue School, Patchogue,
were able to purchase bushes for
Conservation Day. They raised the
funds with a contest for a jar of jelly
beans, in which students and teachers participated.
First Lieutenant Arthur W. Egan Jr.
was selected as the deputy missile
combat crew commander of the 351st
Strategic Missile Wing Crew, Whiteman
Air Force Base, Mo., for the month
of May. This honor distinguishes the
airman—the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
W. Egan of Daisy Street, Patchogue—as
one of the top five crew members from
among 125 evaluated.
The golf course green of the
Bellport Country Club was the scene
of the spring wedding of Miss Debra
K. Stouppe of Hedges Avenue, East
Patchogue, to Richard G. Stephani of
Donegan Avenue, East Patchogue.
The maid of honor was Miss Joanne
Wahlfeld of Brookhaven and best man
was Gary Satornino of East Patchogue.
The Bellport High School DECA
and Booster clubs sponsored a prom
fashion show on May 8 and the student
models were Doretta George, Laura
Lewis, Kathy Mancuso, Diana Mulligan,
Vivian Randall, Annette Rignola, John
Christie, David Gaskin, John Maler and John Naughton.
The piano students of Mrs. Robert
R. Maggio gave a recital last Saturday
afternoon for their families at Mrs.
Maggio’s home on Wyandotte Lane.

Richard Geiger, son of Mr. and Mrs.

is home from Case Western Reserve
University in Ohio, where he has
completed his junior year, and is on the Dean’s List.
Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Butler of Circuit
Road announce the arrival of a baby
girl, Danielle, on May 16. Danielle
was welcomed home from St. Charles
Hospital by her brother, Jeff.

on May 24. He majored in psychology and theatre.
William D. Katz, son of Mrs. Julia
Katz of Franklin Street, Patchogue,
was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Union
College this year.
Miss Therese Read, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Read of Jayne Avenue,
Patchogue, was united in marriage
with Edward J. Rosavitch, son of Mrs.
Edward Rosavitch of Blue Point, during
a nuptial mass May 11 at St. Francis de
Sales R.C. Church, Patchogue.

Airman Thomas E. Lunde, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Edward B. Lunde of Melrose
Parkway, East Patchogue, has been
assigned to Chanute AFB, Ill., after
completing Air Force basic training.
The airman has been assigned to the
Technical Training Center at Chanute
for specialized training in the aircraft
equipment maintenance field. He is a
1972 graduate of Bellport High School.

received her Bachelor of Science
degree in nursing, Sunday, at Niagara University, N.Y.
Miss Evelyn Prehn, daughter of
Thomas Prehn of East Patchogue, was
surprised at a Sweet Sixteen party
given in her honor by her friends, Miss
Marylou and Miss Jean Zavesky, held
at the home of Mrs. Luella Zavesky of
Circuit Road, Bellport. Also celebrating
his birthday was Evelyn’s brother,
Bruce, who was 15 years old.

Kan of Circuit Road, graduated from
the State University of New York at
Brockport on May 19, with a Bachelor
of Science in physical education.
